Chapter 627: Water-Repelling Charm? Lake-Splitting Charm! (First Update)
Chapter 627: Water-Repelling Charm? Lake-Splitting Charm! (First Update)
Furong used the Bubblehead Charm. After casting it, a transparent bubble immediately appeared around her head.
This transparent bubble not only kept the water out but also allowed her to breathe freely underwater.
The Bubblehead Charm is an advanced spell, but for upper-year witches, learning it isn't particularly difficult. The challenge lies in maintaining the spell for over an hour while submerged.
A typical Bubblehead Charm can last for about half an hour, which is already considered impressive.
This was what Furong had been working on in recent times.
After successfully casting the Bubblehead Charm, Furong dove into the Black Lake like a mermaid, becoming the first to enter the water.
Following her was Krum. Krum didn't use the Bubblehead Charm; instead, he employed a special application of a transformation spell called a Partial Transfiguration Spell.
This, too, is an advanced spell, requiring extraordinary talent in transfiguration to master.
Krum couldn't transform his entire body into an animal like an Animagus, but he could change parts of his body while maintaining his human consciousness, avoiding the risk of becoming animalistic.
Typically, when a person is transformed into an animal, their thoughts also become those of the animal, making it impossible to complete the second task.
Only partial transformation allows one to retain their rationality while enjoying some animal abilities.
Krum had transformed his upper body into a shark, enabling him to breathe underwater, swim quickly, and possess a certain level of combat power.
After both of them entered the water, only Jerry remained on the tower.
Unlike the others, he wasn't in a hurry and appeared quite relaxed, seemingly unconcerned about falling behind.
He elegantly drew his wand, gestured lightly toward the Black Lake below, and murmured:
"Hmm, about this direction, I think!"
As everyone grew anxious for Jerry, he finally raised his wand and began to cast a spell.
However, they noticed that he wasn't casting a Water-Repelling Charm but the familiar Freezing Charm.
The Freezing Charm is a lesser-known spell that turns water into ice, particularly popular in the African witching community, where it is often used to create ice cubes for drinks.
The charming ice sculptures on the Christmas escalator were also created by Professor Flitwick using the Freezing Charm.
However, the Freezing Charm Jerry cast was clearly different from the typical version, or perhaps his powerful magic made it look exceptionally splendid.
A blue magic beam shot from Jerry's wand and struck the Black Lake below the Main Tower.
The turbulent waters of the Black Lake suddenly stilled, and a crystalline, elegant ice staircase began to rise rapidly from the lake, finally stabilizing against the side of the Main Tower.
Jerry gently flicked his wide witch's robe and walked down the elegant ice staircase at a leisurely pace, heading toward the Black Lake below.
His demeanor suggested he wasn't participating in a tense and exciting competition but rather strolling like a noble prince. Compared to the previous two brave contestants, he had already won in terms of presence alone.
The excited screams from the young witches on both sides of the tower pierced the sky, and some of them even fainted from the sheer excitement.
"This should achieve the effect Dumbledore wants, right!"
Jerry walked on the ice staircase made of black lake water, listening to the screams of the young witches on either side, and thought to himself.
He wasn't particularly fond of drawing attention to himself, but now, for Dumbledore's request and for Hogwarts and Professor Snape, it didn't matter to occasionally show off.
Besides, he had the Witch Concealment Charm, so when he wanted some peace and quiet, no one could see him.
Reaching the end of the ice staircase, which led down to the black lake, Jerry raised his wand again. This time, he was going to cast the Water-Repelling Charm he had invented.
The screaming young witches, along with the referees and professors in the main tower, all craned their necks in anticipation.
They were all incredibly curious about what Jerry's Water-Repelling Charm would look like. Would it be an upgraded version of the Bubblehead Charm, expanding the bubble from just around the head to cover the entire body, allowing one to breathe underwater and keep clothes dry?
However, Jerry's Water-Repelling Charm was clearly nothing like what they imagined. In fact, it was completely different.
Standing on the lake surface, he raised his wand and pointed it at the black lake below, chanting:
"Be gone!"
Instantly, a massive blue light beam, as thick as a thigh, shot out from his wand. Under the influence of this powerful blue magic beam, the black lake was forcefully split in two, as if an irresistible force had pushed the water apart.
Jerry walked down the black lake, the ice staircase extending automatically beneath him. When he reached the lake bottom, the ice staircase transformed into a beautiful, intricately patterned ice carpet.
He stood on the ice carpet, and with his will, the ice carpet carried him quickly in the direction where he had sensed Hermione.
The water in front of him also parted automatically due to the Water-Repelling Charm.
On his way, he encountered Furong and Krum, who had jumped into the water early. They were struggling to free themselves from the Grindylows and Mermaids while searching for their respective treasures at the bottom of the black lake.
When Jerry passed by, the force of the Water-Repelling Charm instantly separated the water, pushing Furong and Krum to the sides of the ice carpet.
By the time they recovered from their confusion, Jerry was already out of sight.
At that moment, all the witches in the three towers were completely stunned, watching the black lake gradually split in two as Jerry moved.
They all had the same thought:
"Is this a Water-Repelling Charm? This is clearly a Lake-Splitting Charm!"
In reality, the spell Jerry had invented on the spot, based on the properties of water magic, was indeed a Water-Repelling Charm.
Its principle was to make the surrounding water automatically avoid the caster's body.
If an ordinary young witch learned and cast this spell, they would find that the water in the black lake would automatically retreat to half a meter away from their body.
However, with Jerry's extraordinary power, the effect was significantly amplified.
To everyone, it didn't feel like a Water-Repelling Charm but rather a Lake-Splitting Charm.
With Jerry's strength, if he had cast this spell in the ocean instead of the black lake, it might have felt like a Sea-Splitting Charm.
