Chapter 627: The Joy of Life Lies in Challenges!
Ivan glanced around, listening to the cheers and shouts of the crowd. A smile tugged at the corners of his lips as he raised the Golden Cup to acknowledge the audience. After patting the dust off his robes, he strode confidently toward the exit...
Ludo Bagman, standing on the podium, watched Ivan’s retreating figure, momentarily forgetting to commentate. He was lost in thought, recalling Ivan’s words from the tent.
"The joy of life lies in challenges. I am grateful to have chosen the most difficult dragon to face!"
Ivan’s confident words still echoed in Ludo Bagman’s ears. At the time, he had thought it was just arrogant self-praise. Now, it seemed that Ivan’s request for help might have been genuinely about wanting to challenge the strongest dragon!
No... It’s probably more than that!
Ludo Bagman turned his gaze to the Norwegian Ridgeback lying listlessly in the center of the Arena. He dared not underestimate it, as the intense battle had clearly demonstrated the dragon’s cunning and strength.
Ludo Bagman even suspected that even if he himself had faced the dragon, he might not have been able to retrieve the dragon egg under Norbert’s protection. The dragon was simply too intelligent!
Similarly, if any of the other Champions had faced this monster, the situation would likely have been even worse. In the event of an accident, the Dragon Keepers might not have been able to intervene in time.
So, besides his passion for pushing limits, Ludo Bagman believed Ivan must have been concerned that his best friend Harry might draw the Norwegian Ridgeback, risking not only losing the competition but also his life. Thus, Ivan had preemptively chosen the most challenging dragon to ensure Harry’s safety!
Ludo Bagman’s mind raced, and the situation became clear. He regretted having misjudged such an upright young wizard, whose past achievements always spoke the truth!
As he pondered, Ludo Bagman picked up his quill and began writing the scores on the wooden board, preparing for the judgment.
Meanwhile, Ivan had already left the Arena, not forgetting to release the “restrained” Norbert from the giant chains to avoid any suspicion.
After turning a corner, Ivan arrived at the Champions’ resting area.
"You fought incredibly, Ivan!" Harry exclaimed, walking up with excitement and giving Ivan a friendly punch on the shoulder.
The intensity of the battle had far exceeded his expectations. Just watching from a distance, Harry felt his blood boiling!
"Ha... Don’t flatter me. I watched your match too, and your flying was amazing!" Ivan smiled and patted Harry’s shoulder.
Fleur watched Ivan with keen interest, her bright eyes gleaming with admiration.
The only one with a sullen expression was Krum. When Ivan claimed the Golden Egg, Krum knew he was destined to come in last!
After exchanging a few compliments with Harry, Ivan was utterly exhausted. Battling a dragon for nearly half an hour, both on the ground and in the air, was tiring, even if it was just for show!
Before he could sit down to rest, however, the tent’s entrance was suddenly pulled open, and Hermione rushed in.
“Ivan!” The young witches burst in and looked around. They quickly spotted Ivan and hurried over, crashing into him.
Ivan stumbled back a few steps, instinctively wrapping his arms around Hermione as she collided with him.
With her slender waist in his embrace, the two clung tightly to each other. Ivan could even feel Hermione's heart racing and her body trembling slightly.
However, this intimate moment didn't last long. Hermione, momentarily dazed, soon remembered that the Common Room wasn't just occupied by her and Ivan.
Though she was reluctant to let go, she wasn't thick-skinned enough to ignore the gazes of others. After a minute or so, Hermione gently pulled away and glanced around.
Sure enough, Harry and Fleur were looking at her with amused expressions, their lips curved into knowing smiles. Krum, on the other hand, looked rather grim, likely due to his severe injuries.
Hermione felt a bit uncomfortable under their gazes, her brown eyes unsure where to look. In the end, she just continued to stare at Ivan, venting her frustration on him to avoid feeling too awkward.
“You were too risky just now! Ivan! When that Norwegian Ridgeback was breathing fire, you should have dodged in time. What if your Magic hadn't been enough to protect you and you got burned? And when the dragon charged at you, you shouldn't have risked riding on its back…”
At first, Hermione had only wanted to ease the awkward atmosphere, but as she continued, her expression grew more and more indignant, with a lingering hint of fear still evident on her face.
Ivan, of course, noticed this and felt a pang of guilt. He hadn't told anyone about the staged battle with Norbert, wanting to ensure everything went smoothly.
Now, he realized he had indeed been a bit inconsiderate, causing unnecessary worry for those who cared about him.
But since the competition was over, he didn't want to delve into explanations. Instead, he put on a relaxed demeanor and said, “Alright, Hermione… Didn't I tell you? Taming a dragon isn't that hard for me… See, I'm not even scratched!”
The young witches looked him over suspiciously. As Ivan had said, his robes were completely unblemished, not a single scratch or spot of blood.
Clearly, Ivan had handled the battle with ease and hadn't encountered any real danger; otherwise, his clothes wouldn't have remained so pristine.
Seeing this, Hermione retracted her complaints and couldn't help but recall Ivan's calm and collected demeanor in the Arena when he faced the dragon. Her cheeks flushed, and her brown eyes fixed on Ivan. After a moment, she murmured, “Yes, I saw. You were amazing!”
Despite having heard countless cheers on the field, Hermione's praise always felt different and particularly meaningful to Ivan. He smiled in response.
Soon, more people began to crowd into the small tent, not just Hermione but students from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang as well.
Ivan spotted Ron among them, but he seemed hesitant to approach, his expression complex and conflicted…
