Chapter 627: Protection
Chapter 627: Protection
Meng Qianqian told Chen Long about her upcoming meeting with Duan Mingyue.
Chen Long had long known that Duan Mingyue was Xun Yi. Whenever anything involved Xun Yi, Chen Long would instinctively blame Lu Yuan.
"Brother, it has nothing to do with Lu Yuan", Meng Qianqian said, tugging at his sleeve.
Chen Long, who could be as gentle as silk despite his tough exterior, said helplessly, "I know."
When he recovered, he would just have to hold back a few punches from the kid.
But the trouble he caused last night still needed to be dealt with.
They got back to the main topic.
To be honest, Chen Long didn't really care about Tan'er's background.
But if his sister brought it up, it was important.
"I never thought Tan'er was from Luminous Isle. How did she end up drifting to the Central Plains?"
"What kind of place is Luminous Isle?"
Meng Qianqian asked, puzzled.
Chen Long replied, "I don't know much about it. Since Si She is from there, we can ask him when he gets back."
Si She and Ji Li had gone to find the other members of the Twelve Sentinels to settle some old grudges.
Chen Long continued, "You could also ask Tan'er. I believe she trusts you enough to open up."
Meng Qianqian nodded.
"Let's get back to this letter."
Chen Long looked at the yellowed letter with a familiar handwriting, "Why would the Xiyeh Princess have Father's letter? It can't be... that he wrote it to her."
Meng Qianqian said, "It's headless and tailless. Maybe Father wrote it to Mother, and it ended up in her hands by some twist of fate."
She paused, then shook her head, "But that still doesn't make sense. Father had no connection to Luminous Isle, so how could his handwriting end up with the Xiyeh Princess?"
Chen Long was equally puzzled.
Sometimes, things that seem complicated might have a simple and brutal truth.
He said, "After we talk to Si She and Tan'er, we might have a clearer picture. For now, we can confirm that it's Father's handwriting."
The conversation had drained Chen Long's energy. Meng Qianqian, seeing his pale face, tucked the blanket around him, "Rest, Brother. I'll come back another day."
Chen Long suddenly spoke, "Little Nine, take care of yourself. Whether I become an uncle or not doesn't matter, but I will always be your brother."
Meng Qianqian felt a surge of emotion, her nose tingling, "I will."
The room was now empty except for Chen Long.
He lay on the wide bed, the sound of the breeze in his ears, and the faint scent of flowers from the General's Manor years ago in his nose.
He had died when his birth father abandoned him.
She had planted the flowers of life on his grave.
---
On the way back, Meng Qianqian kept her promise and told Lu Yuan about the letter and the handwriting.
Lu Yuan's eyes flashed with surprise, "That's quite something."
Meng Qianqian murmured, "Do you think Father ever went to Luminous Isle?"
Lu Yuan glanced at her, furrowing his brow, "Are you suspecting that Tan'er might be your half-sister?"
Shang Jue and Zhongli Yuan were deeply in love. Would he have had children with another woman?
Moreover, from Tan'er's age, it would mean Shang Jue didn't die in the massacre.
Sometimes, the observer sees what the participant misses. Some things are easy to think of, but she might not.
Perhaps it wasn't that she couldn't guess, but that she was afraid to.
Afraid to give herself great hope, only to face a devastating despair.
Lu Yuan wasn't sure which type she was, but he didn't intend to voice his thoughts.
Without evidence, saying anything would only add to her worries.
He would wait until he had more information before discussing it with her.
Meng Qianqian thought about the small portrait hidden in Tan'er's jade amulet.
The eyes, more precisely, the gaze, felt incredibly familiar to her.
"Xiyeh Holy Maiden."
She murmured the other's identity.
Seeing her troubled again, Lu Yuan held her hand in his. "Don't jump to conclusions. The truth will come to light eventually. I'll write to Wushan and see if Grandmother has any information about Luminous Isle and the Xiyeh Holy Maiden."
Meng Qianqian nodded. "Alright."
Lu Yuan continued, "I'll also ask the old man and the Emperor later."
Meng Qianqian blinked her eyes at him.
Lu Yuan asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Meng Qianqian curved her lips. "Grand Marshal, are you reporting your whereabouts to Little Nine?"
Lu Yuan turned his face away coldly. "No."
Meng Qianqian: "Oh."
Seeing her head droop, looking a bit disappointed and wronged, Lu Yuan took a deep breath and said seriously, "If you want to know, considering you're pregnant, I'll let you know in the future."
When Meng Qianqian still didn't seem convinced, he cleared his throat. "In any case, I'll investigate the matter with your father and the Xiyeh Holy Maiden. Just wait for my news."
Meng Qianqian suppressed the smile that was trying to form on her lips.
So easy to please.
When the carriage arrived at the palace, Ji Feng and Yu Zichuan were already approaching, looking disheveled.
Yu Zichuan immediately sensed a familiar aura and, without a word, leaped onto the carriage roof, landing squarely on Lu Yuan's head.
Cui Hu was stunned, looking up at his swaying little brother. "Yu Zichuan, what are you doing?"
Even this exhausted, he still had to climb onto the roof?
Yu Zichuan remained motionless, breathing heavily.
Lu Yuan snorted.
Ji Feng dismounted and walked to the front of the carriage, bowing to the occupants inside. "Young Master, Young Lady."
Meng Qianqian lifted the curtain and asked Ji Feng, "Are you injured?"
Ji Feng clasped his hands. "Just some minor injuries, nothing serious."
Meng Qianqian, sensing more than just minor injuries from his breathing, said, "Give me your hand."
Ji Feng: "I dare not, Young Lady."
Cui Hu pushed him. "Just do it, stop talking so much!"
Ji Feng glanced at Huang Changsun, seeing no displeasure, and then walked forward, presenting his hand to Meng Qianqian.
Meng Qianqian took his pulse. "Your internal injuries are quite severe. A lot happened in the Subterranean Palace, didn't it?"
Ji Feng replied, "I accidentally triggered a few Mystic Arrays, and then, I caught someone."
As he spoke, he pulled a burlap sack off the horse and opened it, revealing a bruised and battered black-clad figure.
Meng Qianqian didn't recognize him.
Lu Yuan, however, recognized him immediately.
Wasn't this the Corpse Revenant who had been chasing Lu Qi in the Subterranean Palace?
Ji Feng said, "I found this person suspicious and thought it might be useful to bring him back."
"No wonder you're injured."
Meng Qianqian hadn't fought this person, but the Death Qi emanating from him was enough to make her shudder.
She couldn't help but look at Ji Feng with even more respect.
No wonder he was the top Imperial Vanguard. He truly grows stronger in the face of challenges.
Lu Yuan raised an eyebrow. "Interesting. Send him to Lu Qi."
Ji Feng replied, "Yes, Young Master!"
Thinking of something, he became serious. "Young Master, Young Lady, I encountered assassins sent by Hu Lie in the Subterranean Palace. I followed them secretly and discovered Hu Lie's secret. May I ask where the Black Armor Legion is?"
Meng Qianqian said, "Han Qi took them to pursue Hu Lie."
Ji Feng's expression turned grave. "Hu Lie is in league with the Herbalist Vale. He plans to turn the Black Armor Legion into the Herbalist's Puppet Host... The Black Armor Legion is in danger!"
