Chapter 627: Preparing for Battle
Chapter 627: Preparing for Battle
"Is your Magic ready?" As the Aurors headed to the High-Security Wing to drive out the Dementors, Liam quickly set up a Magic Array and stood up to ask Hermione, who was nervously preparing a new spell she had learned in Silvermoon City.
"No problem", Hermione gave a thumbs-up. "To prevent any accidents, I prepared a powerful spell this time. I believe this spell is perfect for dealing with evil creatures like Dementors."
Liam nodded in relief. Unlike himself, who had the guidance of a top-tier Alchemist, Hermione had no one to provide precise guidance after she began analyzing the Death Law. Therefore, she had to experiment with fringe Magics like Shadow Magic or Blood Magic to harness the power of death while trying to gather information and teach herself.
Unfortunately, even with the support of so many worlds, she found very little useful information on the use of death powers. The only relevant material was the information Uncle Kiu provided about Mausoleum Corpse Control after hearing about Liam's troubles. However, raising and controlling corpses was not something Hermione was interested in, and it did not fully harness the power of death.
In this world, the only things related to death, besides the Killing Curse, were the creation of wights. However, these Dark Magics, with their severe side effects, were only of limited reference value. As a result, for a long time, Hermione's use of death powers was as clumsy and inefficient as using an Rpg rocket launcher to hit a person.
Fortunately, the trip to Ferren World solved everything. As one of the most powerful Legendary Mages in the Northern Lands, Lady Elastron had collected almost the entire set of general Magic. During her intensive study, Hermione found the key to unlocking the use of death powers. Today was the first time she would demonstrate her newfound strength since returning.
Liam used his wand to light up the intricately carved metal plates he had placed in the corners, ensuring that he could promptly correct any minor errors in Hermione's casting.
A few minutes later, as the chilling sensation grew stronger, a group of Dementors, their cloaks revealing rotten limbs, poured into the hall from several passages. Behind them, Physical Patronuses were driving them forward.
"Soul Nova." Seeing most of the Dementors rush into the hall, with some even approaching within five or six meters of her, Hermione calmly recited the spell and swung her wand. Instantly, an invisible soul wave radiated from her, enveloping the entire hall.
In the face of this Magic, which specifically targeted incorporeal beings, the Dementors, considered in the Harry Potter world to be invulnerable except to Patronuses, were as fragile as sandcastles. To the amazement of the prison staff who were chasing them, the Dementors froze the moment Hermione's wand swung.
A faint cracking sound came from the Dementors, and then they began to release large amounts of black smoke. Within just a few seconds, the Dementors in Azkaban Castle had completely disappeared.
"This is incredible." The guards, confirming that the Dementors were indeed gone, put away their Physical Patronuses. The youngest guard, Susan, couldn't help but exclaim in amazement, her eyes filled with curiosity as she looked at Hermione. "Just like that, those monsters are gone?"
"It's not too difficult, as long as you master the power of death", Hermione said, feeling very pleased with her first successful use of death powers in battle. Encouraged by Susan's question, she began to explain some non-critical aspects of her spell, which was already quite enlightening to a Wizard unfamiliar with another Magic system.
"Our next step—" The oldest Auror, Albert, began to speak, but was interrupted by a loud boom from outside the castle, as if someone had struck the wall with a massive battering ram.
"Damn, the attackers are here too soon", Liam immediately sensed that Azkaban's Magic Defense was under attack.
"Everyone, follow the contingency plan and guard your assigned areas. I don't think the Dark Lord will come in person, so with the castle's Magic Array, we can hold our ground", Liam saw the guards' faces turn grim and raised his voice to boost their morale, casting a new spell to reinforce their confidence.
The second-level Magic effect was excellent, and once they calmed down, the Guards realized that Voldemort, having just taken over the Ministry of Magic, wouldn't personally come here. Within a few seconds, the Guards regained their composure and hurried to their defensive positions within the castle.
Once everyone had left, Liam headed upstairs, with Hermione following closely behind. She handed him a parchment and asked in a rapid voice, "The prisoners downstairs aren't a big issue. Most were wrongly accused and imprisoned by the Ministry of Magic recently, or they committed minor offenses and only need to stay here for a few months. I believe they'll stay in their cells, but what about the High-Security Prisoners upstairs?"
"Six real Death Eaters and three Dark Wizards with a long list of crimes. Only nine people in total?" Liam didn't stop walking, just glanced at the list. "You can go directly to the High-Security Wing once you get upstairs. I think I can handle the attackers on my own."
"You want me to go to the High-Security Wing?" Hermione thought for a moment and immediately understood something. She bit her lip lightly. "Do we need to activate the Emergency Contingency Plan today?"
"It shouldn't come to that. I don't think those Death Eaters will be able to break in here with the defenses we have." Liam reassured her. After experiencing so many worlds, Hermione still had some psychological obstacles about killing unarmed people, even if they deserved it. "Just in case—"
"So, just in case, if you give me the signal, I'll execute all the High-Security Prisoners as quickly as possible." Hermione looked at Liam, who had a slightly surprised expression. "After everything we've been through, I'm no longer as naive as I used to be. I know there are things I might not like, but I have to do them."
Liam took a deep breath and turned to hug Hermione. He knew how difficult this transformation was for her.
A few seconds later, Hermione's face flushed as she pulled away from Liam's embrace and walked into the guard room next to the stairs leading to the high-security wing. Liam, meanwhile, drew his wand and continued up the stairs.
The high-security wing was on the top floor of the castle. After saying goodbye to Hermione, Liam followed the stairs and soon reached a heavy iron gate. Using the method the Guards had told him, he tapped the gate with Magic and opened it, standing on the castle's top floor.
A milky, translucent shield now surrounded Azkaban Castle, with occasional sparks from explosions flickering against it. Through the shield, Liam saw a dozen Death Eaters on brooms trying to attack with their wands.
Their skill levels were mediocre, and Liam felt they wouldn't be able to break through with just this. However, they clearly didn't intend to use this method to breach the castle. Seeing Liam come out, one of the Death Eaters shouted, "Cease your resistance immediately. According to the Ministry of Magic, you must surrender Azkaban to us."
The Death Eater waved a parchment, and the sharp-eyed Liam saw the seal of the Ministry of Magic's Department of Magical Law Enforcement on it.
"Ministry of Magic? I'm sorry, but I don't consider the current Ministry of Magic a legitimate organization." Although Liam was surprised by how quickly Voldemort and the Death Eaters had taken over the Ministry, he firmly rejected the Death Eater's demand.
"Don't delude yourself into thinking you can stand against the Dark Lord. If you don't surrender now, no one can save you." The lead Death Eater roared in anger at Liam's response. "If you surrender now, I can guarantee your safety. But if you continue to resist, you and all the resistors will meet a terrible end once we get inside."
With that, he took out a silver ball and threw it at the shield.
