Chapter 626: Teaching Us
Chapter 626: Teaching Us
In addition to Divination and Transfiguration, Umbridge also attended Professor Flitwick's Charm Class.
Accordingly to Cedric, this was the most rigid Charm class he had ever attended. Professor Flitwick maintained a stern expression throughout the class, responding to Umbridge's various questions with little enthusiasm, unlike his usual passionate teaching style.
"We need to come up with a plan," Cedric said during dinner, his appetite gone as he spoke with a worried expression, "If this continues, she will not only ruin Defense Against the Dark Arts but also other subjects."
"It shouldn't be that bad," Kyle responded, "The investigation into Professor Umbridge won't last too long. After all, it requires her to be present in different classrooms every day, and Umbridge must have other matters to attend to. She won't spend all her time attending classes."
"Let's hope it's as you say," Cedric sighed, "Even if Umbridge only ruins Defense Against the Dark Arts, it's already terrible enough."
"The Dark Lord has resurfaced, and his Death Eaters are undoubtedly planning their next move against us. Yet, at this critical juncture, we are learning nothing in our Defense Against the Dark Arts class."
Mikael and Ryan, sitting nearby, nodded in agreement.
Cedric was right; they were not equipped to deal with the Dark Lord, nor was it necessary for them to do so. That was the responsibility of Headmaster Dumbledore.
However, if a war were to break out, the Death Eaters would not spare them just because they hadn't studied Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts.
They needed to be able to protect themselves.
Sighs filled the air around the table.
Kyle remained silent, recalling his previous encounter with Fudge at the Three Broomsticks.
Based on Fudge's reaction, he was clearly moved.
If Fudge were to announce the Dark Lord's resurgence on behalf of the Ministry of Magic, the Defense Against the Dark Arts class would undoubtedly change. At the very least, they could welcome a reliable professor, or even multiple ones.
However, what surprised Kyle was that Fudge had managed to remain calm and quiet for so long without taking any action.
Perhaps Fudge wanted to eliminate the threat of Dumbledore first.
Or maybe he was still hesitating...
After all, announcing Voldemort's return had both advantages and disadvantages. While there would be no change in leadership during wartime, a misstep could trigger widespread fear.
In that case, he would likely be ousted immediately.
Considering all these factors, the pressure must not be significant enough.
Kyle shook his head.
Unfortunately, Rita Skeeter had already caught the Ministry's attention due to her previous actions, and there was no way she could publish articles again. Dumbledore was also unwilling to cooperate.
Otherwise, Kyle might have found a way to help Fudge further.
"Sorry..."
As Kyle was thinking, a familiar voice suddenly reached his ears.
He looked up and noticed Hermione had approached from the Gryffindor table, with a nervous Harry and Ron following behind her.
"Is something the matter?" Kyle asked.
"It's like this..." Hermione glanced around and spoke in a low voice, "There are a lot of people here. Can we go somewhere quieter?"
"There's no need for that," Kyle said as he gently tapped his wand.
"Silencing Charm!" Kyle said, "Now, no one else can hear what we're saying."
This charm, which Kyle learned from Snape's Advanced Potion Making, created a designated area where everyone within earshot would hear an indistinguishable buzzing sound, effectively preventing eavesdropping.
Hermione was both surprised and delighted.
"It's like this," she said,
Although she had never seen this charm before, she didn't doubt Kyle's explanation and continued, "I believe you're also aware of how terrible a teacher Umbridge is. We can't learn any Defense Against the Dark Arts knowledge from her."
"Of course," Kyle said, "In fact, we were just discussing this. So, what do you want to say?
"Let me be clear, if you're thinking of uniting to drive out Umbridge, forget it... She has Fudge's support, and even Professor Dumbledore can't do anything about it."
"No, I know we can't get rid of her," Hermione said hesitantly, "I was thinking, perhaps we could... do this ourselves."
Cedric suddenly spoke up, "Do you mean we should study Defense Against the Dark Arts on our own?
"Yes, that's exactly it," Hermione said, her voice suddenly filled with passion. "We need to be prepared for what's coming, I mean, we need to be able to protect ourselves, not just sit in class listening to theories and parchment."
"So we need a teacher, a suitable teacher, who can teach us how to use spells and correct us when we make mistakes, just like Sirius or Professor Moody."
Hermione became more and more excited as she spoke, occasionally glancing at Kyle.
"And we have such a person right here. I dare say he's more suitable for this job than most people."
"I think I know who you're talking about," Cedric smiled. "You're right, he's indeed a good fit."
Kyle looked at Hermione's sparkling eyes and Cedric's mischievous expression, instantly understanding what they were implying.
Instinctively, before Hermione could say anything, he spoke up, "Yes, I completely agree with you. It's a good thing."
"So you agree?" Hermione asked excitedly.
"Yes," Kyle nodded. "I know you want Cedric to teach you Defense Against the Dark Arts, and of course, I'm the first to agree."
"That's great..." Cedric happily patted Kyle's shoulder, but just as he was about to say something, he suddenly realized something was amiss.
"Wait... what Hermione was saying was..."
"I know," Kyle interrupted him. "You're shy and can't say yes, it's fine. I agreed on your behalf, no need to thank me."
At this, not only Cedric but even Hermione was stunned.
The reason she came this time was to ask Kyle to teach them Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Last night, she had discussed it with Harry and Ron for a long time, and they all agreed that Kyle was the most suitable candidate.
There was no question about it. After all, Kyle's numerous honors were on display in the trophy room, including two Inter-House Special Contribution Awards, the Most Promising Newcomer Award from "Today's Transfigurations," the youngest Triwizard Tournament champion, and the youngest member of the Merlin Order.
It could be said that Kyle received a new honor every year... The Inter-House Special Contribution Award, which seemed incredibly difficult to everyone, was the least noticeable one for him.
Therefore, in Hermione's opinion, Kyle was the perfect replacement for Umbridge, and Harry and Ron also held the same view.
"Actually, we want you to teach us," Ron muttered. "If it were anyone else, we might as well ask Harry."
"Hey, don't say that," Harry quickly stopped him and apologized to Cedric, "Sorry, Diggory, it's not what you think..."
"It's okay," Cedric waved his hand. "Because I was thinking the same thing."
"No, I'm not suitable," Kyle shook his head decisively. "Teaching others what you know and knowing how to cast spells are two different things."
"I don't see any difference," Ron disagreed slightly.
In his opinion, a professor was a powerful wizard. Professor McGonagall, the Deputy Headmistress, was more powerful than an ordinary professor, and Headmaster Dumbledore was the most powerful of them all. What was the issue?
"There is a difference," Kyle glanced at him. "Take the Transfiguration spell, for example. I can master the content of the sixth year and below after Professor McGonagall demonstrates it once. So, it's challenging for me to explain the process and the points to note because I haven't experienced it myself."
After hearing Kyle's words, everyone's expressions were fascinating, especially Harry and Ron, who felt their faces burning as if two fire lizards were crawling on them.
The Transfiguration class for sixth-year students was not mentioned, but the fifth-year Transfiguration class was already a significant challenge for them... Even with Hermione's help, it would take them several days to barely pass.
Now, Kyle was telling them that he could master it after just one demonstration?
The gap was indeed too significant, and for a moment, both Harry and Ron struggled to accept it.
Even Hermione was left speechless, stammering, feeling that Kyle had just shown off, and the evidence was undeniable.
