Chapter 625: Violation! This Dragon is Violating the Rules!
Chapter 625: Violation! This Dragon is Violating the Rules!
Just as Ludo Bagman spoke, Norbert, who had just arrived, spread his wings in a threatening display. The long, menacing spine on his back bristled with sharp spikes that gleamed like blades in the sunlight.
Perhaps feeling uneasy surrounded by so many wizards, the Norwegian Ridgeback opened its mouth, filled with sharp teeth, and let out a heart-stopping roar. Its massive tail swished unconsciously, crushing a nearby boulder into pieces.
Norbert's aggressive display and show of strength made the young wizards watching feel a cold sweat for Ivan.
Especially with the harrowing moments of the previous Champions narrowly escaping the dragons still fresh in everyone's minds, all were curious to see how Ivan would retrieve the Golden Egg from beneath the dragon.
To their surprise, Ivan made no preparations. He simply strode confidently toward the dragon's nest, as if he were going to collect an award rather than face a dragon.
Even the onlookers could sense his nonchalant attitude, let alone Norbert, who was directly in front of him!
The enraged dragon became even more violent, its yellow-orange eyes fixed fiercely on Ivan.
As the distance between the wizard and the dragon closed, the young wizard with golden hair seemed to become more serious. He raised his wand.
"Oppugno~ (Multi-Shot)"
The fragments of stones on the ground, as if guided, began to float and, under the influence of the Transfiguration Spell, transformed into sharp stone spears.
However, Ivan's attack didn't stop there. He waved his wand again, this time using an Enlargement Charm. Nearly a third of the stone spears quickly grew to the size of human heads and hurtled toward the dragon at an incredible speed.
"Our final Champion has finally made his move! Is he preparing to face the dragon head-on? This is impossible! The consequences of such an action have already been demonstrated by Krum! No wizard can fight a fully grown dragon alone, no one can!"
Ludo Bagman, as the commentator, shouted at the top of his lungs, stirring the tension among the students in the stands.
Only Karkaroff was dissatisfied with Ludo Bagman's words and immediately defended Krum, but no one paid him any attention. All eyes were fixed on the center of the arena.
However, they soon realized that dealing with a dragon was not so easy. Norbert's massive tail swept through the air, turning many of the stone spears into powder.
But the sheer number of stone spears was overwhelming. Even the thick dragon scales couldn't completely block the damage. The dragon staggered back several steps, its massive body writhing in pain, emitting cries of anguish.
Then, perhaps in a desperate attempt to protect the dragon egg, Norbert did something no one expected. He grabbed the Golden Egg with his front claws and took flight, flapping his wings!
The students in the stands were stunned, and the dragon keepers nearby were bewildered. This was the first time they had seen a dragon take the egg and run!
"Violation! This dragon is violating the rules!" Ludo Bagman on the platform shouted, his eyes wide with shock, his nerves stretched to the breaking point.
Ivan had never told him what he intended to do in the arena, and even the fact that Ivan would directly attack the dragon was completely unexpected.
Thinking this, Ludo Bagman couldn't help but regret betting all his chips on Ivan. This kid was just too daring!
He had assumed that Ivan's deliberate choice of Norbert was because he had discovered a weakness in the dragon, perhaps a trick to get through the challenge. But he hadn't expected that Ivan's plan was to go head-to-head!
However, Ludo Bagman soon realized that this Norwegian Ridgeback had an intensely vengeful nature and no intention of fleeing. After circling the sky for a moment, it quickly dove, and a scorching blast of dragon breath erupted from its gaping maw, a sea of fire enveloped in rolling heat waves descended upon the arena.
"Quick, get out of the way!" Hermione, standing in the Gryffindor stands, was on the edge of her seat, her hands gripping the railing tightly as she shouted at the top of her lungs.
But Ivan had no intention of dodging. A small, searing flame slowly ignited at the tip of his wand, drifting away as he directed it. The flame grew faster and larger, eventually expanding to a width of three meters, colliding with the dragon's breath in mid-air.
A deafening boom echoed throughout the arena, and the young wizards, clutching their ears, let out shrill screams. Yet, their eyes remained glued to the arena, not daring to miss a single moment of the spectacle.
Thick, dark smoke rose, and large chunks of debris rained down from the sky. The shockwave from the explosion sent the Norwegian Ridgeback flying several meters away.
Ivan, in a lavish display of magic, used his Magic Ring to deflect all the falling debris to the side. He then raised his hand again, and a purple beam struck the unsteady Norbert.
Though it didn't break through the dragon scales, the Norwegian Ridgeback still seemed affected, its body swaying as it crashed into a stone pillar and fell to the ground.
Karkaroff and the others in the Judges' Stand were thoroughly confused, struggling to understand the situation. However, after witnessing the powerful Blasting Curse, they instinctively assumed it must have been another form of potent magic.
"Can any of you tell what spell Hals used?" Crouch turned to the learned headmasters, curious.
Dumbledore's face twitched, but he maintained a serious expression as he slowly replied, "It must be some kind of specialized mental spell to achieve such an effect!"
Karkaroff and Maxime nodded in agreement, both claiming they had seen similar magic in obscure books.
The audience, though not fully understanding, was impressed. They saw Ivan bring the massive dragon down from the sky, and thunderous cheers erupted throughout the arena.
However, the battle didn't end with the dragon's fall. The vicious Norwegian Ridgeback quickly recovered from the "mental influence", crouching low and readying itself for another attack.
The wizard and the dragon faced off in the confined space, neither moving for a full dozen seconds.
In any other scenario, such a confrontation with such a size disparity would have been laughable, but not now. Everyone acknowledged that this was a battle of equal strength!
In fact, many keen-eyed young wizards noticed that Ivan still appeared calm and collected, his clothes pristine, while the Norwegian Ridgeback looked disheveled and hesitant to make a move.
But only Ivan knew the true situation: Norbert seemed to have forgotten what to do next...
