Chapter 624: Ghost Power Company (II)
Chapter 624: Ghost Power Company (II)
The corridor’s environment was nearly identical to the room’s. The walls on both sides, the ceiling, and the ground were all constructed from an unknown gray material. At regular intervals, eerie green runic markings glowed faintly—symbols likely used to unlock the doors to the various rooms.
“Walk straight ahead. No tricks,” the Iron-Blood Security Guard Brother ordered after exiting the room, gesturing for Feng Bu Jue to lead the way.
Feng Bu Jue complied, turning forward and walking at a steady pace. After a few steps, he attempted conversation: “Hey… brother… May I ask your name?”
“Don’t try to get friendly,” Iron-Blood replied coldly.
“Oh… Brother Tie, your hairstyle’s pretty unique. Where’d you get it done?” Feng Bu Jue pressed.
“Born this way,” Iron-Blood retorted (Iron-Blood Warriors naturally had mop-like hair).
“Hmm…” Feng Bu Jue continued, “How’s the security guard job? Pay decent?”
“Prices are aligned with Europe, housing prices with the Moon, and wages with Africa,” Iron-Blood replied bluntly.
“Haha… Same as back home,” Feng Bu Jue chuckled dryly.
Suddenly, the shoulder cannon on Iron-Blood’s armor whirred to life. Three red laser dots appeared on Feng Bu Jue’s back.
“One more word, and I’ll turn you into a corpse to haul out,” Iron-Blood deadpanned.
Feng Bu Jue sighed, awkwardly hunching his shoulders and offering a strained smile before falling silent.
“This scenario’s setting is bizarre,” he mused. “Wonder how the others are doing…” He opened his game menu, relieved to see all teammates still alive. “No deaths yet—good sign. But their locations are unknown…” His eyes swept the corridor. “Unfamiliar architecture, unknown room count, door-opening mechanics, and operational principles… Intelligence gathering’s been tough. Even if I subdued Iron-Blood, next steps would be tricky. Better to play along for now…”
———
Minutes earlier, in another room…
“Security guard! Help! Murder!” A Skull Croucher crouched in a corner, clutching his head and screaming.
“Another security guard?” Ruo Yu stood in the room’s center, gripping Sealed Sainthood, her expression icy. “What kind of place is this…?”
The room’s door shimmered open, but no guard appeared. Instead, a Headless Knight—this department’s head—stepped through.
“Sigh… Skull-zi, what am I to do with you?” The Headless Knight sighed (the sound emanating from his thoracic cavity). “How long’s it been since you scared someone to death? I know people aren’t into skeletons these days, but getting scared yourself? What’s going on?”
“It’s not my fault this time!” Skull-zi stammered.
Ruo Yu remained eerily calm, turning to face the Headless Knight. “Who are you? What is this place?”
“Hm?” Though headless, the knight twisted his torso, mimicking a “look.” “Wow, so composed facing me! And armed too…” He stepped back slightly. “I should ask you—what faction? Not human, right? Why’re you here?”
“What company?” Ruo Yu pressed.
“Ghost Power Company,” the knight replied. “Hey, how’d you even get teleported into the Terror Room? Tech Department, report! Headless Department Head here—did you slackers let a non-human slip through?!”
———
Meanwhile, in Ghost Power Company’s basement parking lot…
“What’s with this place?” Tan Lang whispered, hiding behind a pillar. “Why are there coffins, Pumpkin Cars, and Human Skeleton Horses in the parking spots?”
“To this scenario’s inhabitants, they’re probably normal transportation,” Gu Xiaoling replied, peeking around the pillar’s camera.
Tan Lang, in his early thirties, bore a ruggedly handsome face. A member of the Blade Guild, he shared allegiance with Long Ao Min and Seven Kill. Though he’d once run scenarios with Xiao Ling and Xiao Tan, they weren’t close.
His ID alone hinted at his prowess.
Seven Kill: Noble-hearted, bold, and peerlessly fierce. Breakthrough General: Unrivaled in valor, a lone wolf dominating realms. Tan Lang: A mastermind of cunning, agility, and strategy. As the I Ching states: When these Three Stars unite, the world shall shift irrevocably.
As Blade Guild’s elite “Kill, Break, Wolf” trio, their overbearing auras alone commanded respect. Seven Kill’s martial arts prowess ranked among Terrifying Paradise’s elite. Without Wang Tan Zhi’s Male Second Lead Halo intervention, he’d have placed in the Summit Confrontation’s top thirty.
Breakthrough General had yet to appear, but Tan Lang—Blade Guild’s strategist and political officer—specialized in medicine, currently level 37. Limited by offline duties, his gameplay time lagged behind frontline fighters like Seven Kill. His unique proficiency kept him lower on combat leaderboards, though recent reforms had boosted his rank.
Still, his tactical mind made him invaluable to hellfront’s four killing gods.
“Why’re we hiding?” A third voice interrupted. “No one’s here…”
The speaker was Juan Meng Huan, the team’s lowest-level member at 34. His disheveled hair and new gloves contrasted his calm demeanor—unusual for a casual player clinging to elites.
Why the confidence? Simple: Juan Meng Huan’s former ID—Shidao Wei Wang—had ranked 18th in the Peak Conquest Tournament. He’d mastered S-Rank Skills mid-war, placed sixth post-tournament, and been Shidaostudio’s top player.
But that ID was history. Data erased, gear stripped, currency forfeited. A non-compete clause barred him from rival studios for a year.
Now, he’d restarted from scratch. Leveraging gaming expertise, disciplined routines, and Multi-Experience Cards, he’d clawed to level 34 in weeks.
No longer reliant on Shidaostudio’s enhancements, his raw talent shone. In pure capability, he rivaled elites like Fei Chai Shu.
“Ex-accounts shouldn’t talk back! Duck!” Xiao Ling snapped, forcing Juan Meng Huan to retreat grudgingly.
“Hey! Someone’s coming!” Tan Lang hissed moments later, signaling his team.
Three pairs of eyes peeked from different angles.
A young man in plain clothes strolled into the parking lot, heading straight for a coffin.
“Leaving work early feels great,” he hummed cheerfully.
If only he knew what awaited…
“Ahhh! Trouble!” A sweet, melodic female voice system activated.
The man froze mid-step, turning toward a shadowed pillar where half a petite figure peeked out. “Need help, miss?” he asked, craning his neck to see.
As he entered the shadows, two Black Shadows lunged, pinning him down.
A cold gun barrel pressed to his pale forehead. Xiao Ling smiled, voice sharp: “Name. Identity. Race. I’ll count to three. One…”
“Edward! Vampire! Just a Terror Staff! Don’t kill me!” the man pleaded.
“Liar! Vampires fear decapitation? If you’re a vampire, why not turn into a bat and flee?” Xiao Ling tested.
“Not all vampires can! And decapitation kills us too!” Edward yelped.
“Hmph…” Xiao Ling exchanged glances with her team. “Fine… I’ll believe you…” Her gun didn’t waver. “You said you’re a ‘Terror Staff’?”
