Chapter 623: The New Potions Professor (First Update)
Chapter 623: The New Potions Professor (First Update)
"By the way, do you guys know who the new Potions professor is?"
Seeing no hope of copying homework, Ron had to bury his head in his work. Unfortunately, he couldn't last for even half an hour before putting down his quill again.
"You know?"
Harry's interest was immediately piqued when he heard it was about the new Potions professor. He forgot about his homework for a moment.
Among the young wizards at Hogwarts, none was happier about the change in Potions professors than Harry, who had been tormented by Snape for nearly four years.
After Christmas, when he heard that the school had hired a new professor to take over Snape's Potions class, he was so excited that he couldn't sleep all night.
For the past three and a half years, who knew how much he had detested Potions class.
Every year, a third of the points Gryffindor lost were due to him, and out of those points, nine out of ten were deducted by Snape in Potions class.
If it weren't for Hermione's relentless score-boosting, Gryffindor would have been at the bottom of the rankings every year.
If he weren't Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, it's likely that no one in Gryffindor would have liked him.
In Potions class, no matter who made a mistake, Snape always found a way to deduct points from him.
That's why he was so happy to hear that a new professor would be replacing Snape to teach Potions, and why he was the most interested in the new Potions professor.
"Of course I know. Don't forget my two well-informed brothers, George and Fred. They said they saw the new professor yesterday, walking and talking with Snape by the Black Lake."
Ron replied smugly.
His prankster twin brothers weren't entirely useless. At least, if you needed information, they were always the ones to ask.
"She was walking with Professor Snape?"
Hermione's face showed surprise.
The "she" indicated a woman, and the fact that she was walking and talking with Snape by the Black Lake was significant. In all the years they had been at Hogwarts, Snape had always been a solitary figure.
Even at the Christmas dance, he never stepped onto the dance floor. It was hard to imagine him walking and chatting with a woman by the Black Lake.
This observation didn't escape Hermione's keen senses, and she sensed a bit of gossip in the air.
"Yes, according to George and Fred, they saw the two of them walking and talking. Snape's face was smiling the entire time, looking very happy.
If they hadn't seen it with their own eyes, George and Fred would have thought it wasn't Snape at all, but Snape's twin brother. Can you imagine Snape laughing heartily?"
Ron sounded genuinely amazed.
"Impossible!"
Harry shook his head. The idea of Snape laughing heartily was like two parallel lines that would never intersect.
Hermione was also surprised, but she was more curious about who could have made such a change in Professor Snape.
"So, who is she?"
"I don't know her name, but George and Fred said they heard that the new professor is from the American magical community."
Ron shrugged.
"It seems they're making good progress!"
At this point, Jerry, who had been silent, spoke up:
"She's Lily Foster, a renowned potions master from America and the owner of the famous Foster's Apothecary. She's thirty-four years old and unmarried."
"Jerry, how do you know all this in such detail?"
Ron's eyes widened in surprise.
Without even looking up, Jerry replied:
"You forgot about my relationship with Professor Snape."
Everyone immediately understood.
The next day, the Christmas holiday ended, and the new semester began.
It was a Friday, so the afternoon class was the Potions class for Gryffindor and Slytherin together.
Rumors about the new Potions professor had been circulating around the school for days, and everyone was intensely curious.
Before the class started, all the young wizards were already seated, occasionally glancing at the classroom door.
The bell rang, and under the expectant gazes of the students, Professor Snape, dressed in his black wizard robes, appeared at the doorway, startling everyone.
But after just a moment's pause, Snape stepped aside and courteously ushered in a striking figure from behind him.
It was the new Potions professor, Lily Foster.
"Wow~~~"
At the sight of Lily Foster, all the young wizards let out a chorus of admiration.
At thirty-four, Lily was beautiful and graceful, making quite an impression on the young wizards.
It was rare to have such a young and attractive professor at Hogwarts.
Most of the professors at Hogwarts were either old, unattractive, or just plain odd. Someone like Lily Foster was a rarity.
"Cough!"
After bringing Lily to the front of the class, Snape cleared his throat and scanned the room. The previously noisy classroom fell silent.
Although Snape no longer taught Potions, that didn't mean the students weren't afraid of him.
"This is Professor Lily Foster, your new Potions professor. I expect you to respect her as you would me. If anyone dares to be inattentive in class, I will have a serious talk with them!"
After introducing Lily, Snape's gaze swept across the room, causing the young wizards to nod eagerly.
Except for Harry, of course.
The moment Harry saw Professor Foster, he froze.
In his first year, Hagrid had helped gather all the photos of Harry's parents, so Harry was well aware of what his mother, Lily Evans, looked like.
Jerry noticed Harry's reaction but didn't pay it much mind.
He had already considered this possibility when he planned to go back in time and execute his plan.
He didn't see it as a bad thing.
At least with a Potions professor who looked exactly like his mother, Harry's Potions grades were likely to improve.
Moreover, with Lily Foster around, the relationship between Harry and Snape would likely improve.
Harry and Snape had always been at odds, and if not for Snape's ultimate sacrifice for Harry, their relationship would never have improved.
"Alright, no need to be so serious. Ignore what he said. I hope you can treat me as a friend. I prefer a more relaxed classroom atmosphere."
After Snape left, Lily shrugged helplessly and joked.
She had originally wanted to come alone, but Headmaster Snape insisted on accompanying her and made the atmosphere overly formal, which was not what she wanted.
The teaching style at Ilvermorny was more open, and she was used to a friendly relationship between teachers and students, rather than a rigid one.
