Chapter 623: The Curious Youth
Chapter 623: The Curious Youth
"Finally, they're here!"
A look of joy flashed across Lindsey's face as he stood up from the reception room in the Forest Capital.
Noticing Lindsey's reaction, Hammer, who was delivering the report, straightened his expression.
"Lord Lindsey, what is it...?"
Lindsey waved his hand dismissively.
"It's nothing. Let them come and see me."
Hammer hesitated.
"Let them meet you directly, but we don't even know their origins, and this is the only reason..."
Lindsey laughed heartily.
"Rest assured, I'm not some lord who can't even bind a chicken."
"Dignity doesn't come from such formalities."
"Moreover, if these people can pose a threat to me, there's probably no safe place left in the Wildlands."
"..."
"Forget it, I'll go there myself."
Lindsey changed his mind and immediately stood up.
He had been contemplating this task for the past few days, and now that the other party was taking the initiative to come to him, Lindsey couldn't contain his excitement.
He walked across the suspended wooden bridge and the beautifully designed forest trail.
Lindsey made his way through the city's trees, heading west towards the Banyan Forest.
The Forest Capital was now well-constructed.
The clean and orderly path extended all the way to the forest's edge, and it was only when Lindsey reached the end that he noticed the distant trees adorned with beautiful and vibrant thorn vines.
These were defensive structures that replaced the walls.
Thorn Wall
Construction Cost: 450 Wood
Function: Causes thorns to grow around the Forest Capital, actively repelling and attacking enemies.
Research Enhancement -
Venomous Thorns
Research Cost: 300 Wood, 20 Mercury
Effect: Infuses the Thorn Wall with venom, greatly increasing damage against enemies.
Just as the Insect Nest requires a large amount of food, the Forest Capital's demand for gold coins is reduced, and the costs of construction and research projects are significantly increased for natural materials like wood and stone.
This event is also a critical juncture.
Lindsey plans to take advantage of this opportunity to promote the currency system in his territory, not only for his shop but also to revive the economic system in this world.
Lindsey continued westward.
He bypassed a wooden bridge, and ahead, the path came to an end.
So he jumped down from the air, landing on the ground with a 'bang'.
After taking a few more steps forward, a solid wooden gate appeared amidst the trees.
The gate itself didn't have any special features and was a typical urban structure.
However, hidden in the treetops above was a forest watchtower where four specially trained jungle archers were stationed, and below, guarding the gate, were six elite-level forest sword dancers.
These individuals were early loyal followers of Lord Lindsey.
They had earned his trust and received the highest level of training.
Now, with their combined strength and the advantage of the terrain, they could easily defend against Awakened ones up to Tier Three.
As Lindsey approached the gate, he witnessed the situation.
"You, you must let me go!"
"Dangerous bugs and Poisoned Ones are threatening the entire world, and you don't understand what's happening on this land!"
"..."
Several young men sat on the ground, bound tightly with ropes. Their bodies showed signs of recent combat, appearing fresh and vibrant.
Apparently, it was the sword dancers stationed here by Lindsey who had subdued these agitated individuals.
After knocking them down, they didn't go overboard; they simply kept watch over them.
"Lord Lindsey."
Upon seeing Lindsey's arrival, someone immediately bowed in greeting.
A group of people stood behind the bound individuals, ensuring they didn't cause any trouble.
Lord Lindsey approached the leader of the guards, who questioned the young man named Hayn.
"Hayn, what's the matter with these people? Did they come to see me?"
Hayn, a Sword Dancer, nodded. "They claimed to seek aid, but we asked them to wait. They grew impatient and even resorted to physical confrontation, leading to this situation."
As the conversation progressed, Lord Lindsey stepped closer to the bound individuals.
The Sword Dancers silently formed a circle around them, creating a quiet space for discussion.
"You..." One of the badly beaten men spoke with a hostile tone.
Before he could continue, his bound companion nudged him with their shoulder and interrupted, addressing Lord Lindsey, "Sir, are you the lord of this place?"
"We apologize for our actions!"
"This world is facing a significant crisis, and we were eager to raise awareness. Our impatience led to this reckless behavior."
Lord Lindsey unfurled a map.
There were five bound individuals, most of them bearing the Neutral Yellow Marker.
Especially the young man who had just spoken to him, who also carried the Green Friendly Marker.
Assured of their non-hostile intentions, the situation became more manageable.
Lord Lindsey casually drew his longsword and waved it forward, severing the ropes that bound the young men.
"I know you mean no harm."
"Come, follow me. Let's talk in the city."
Lord Lindsey gestured, and the other Sword Dancers respectfully stepped aside, obeying their lord's command.
The freed young men glanced at each other.
Though still angry from the beating, their mood shifted as Lord Lindsey displayed his magnanimity.
"..."
"Let's hurry and catch up."
Even after Lord Lindsey walked ahead by over 10 meters, it was the calm young man who led the others forward.
The group followed Lord Lindsey into the Forest Capital with curious gazes.
As Lord Lindsey led the way, he soon heard sighs and exclamations from behind.
Like anyone visiting the Forest Capital for the first time, they were awe-struck by the sights.
They marveled at the surroundings, even testing the sturdiness of a wooden bridge by walking back and forth on it.
"Trees... I've never seen so many trees!"
"So tall, so many... There's enough firewood here to last a lifetime!"
"It must be the work of Awakened techniques."
"..."
"Holy crap, this thing moves?"
Lord Lindsey turned at a cry of surprise, only to find one of them reaching out to touch a tree by the road, only to have their palm swatted away by a branch.
The Forest Capital had seemingly ordinary trees, but they were actually slumbering Treants.
Should the Forest Capital face grave danger or an invasion, these guardians would awaken, each possessing the combat prowess of Elite Warriors.
For those unaware of this, it would be quite a shocking revelation.
"..."
Lord Lindsey remained silent, merely glancing at the map again.
As they continued their journey, the very environment of the Forest Capital had a profound impact. Three of the four Neutral Yellow Markers transformed into Green Friendly Markers.
"Construction and civilization."
"It's about making a difference in every aspect."
