Chapter 622: Rukia Wants to Become a Shinigami
Chapter 622: Rukia Wants to Become a Shinigami
In the distant Wutun Palace, home to Kirio Hikifune, one of the mighty Zero Squad, there was a bustling atmosphere. Countless servants, mostly Replicas created by Kirio herself, scurried about.
Kirio's unique ability to create these Replicas, artificial souls with independent personalities and emotions, indistinguishable from natural souls, had been the reason for her ascension to the prestigious Zero Squad.
Within the palace, a long table was laden with an array of exquisite delicacies, with more being brought in by the servants.
"Your Highness, please help yourself and eat to your heart's content, Rukia. It's been a while since you last visited. Ahaha, it's perfect timing as I'm feeling a bit peckish myself." Kirio chuckled, popping a piece of bread into her mouth. "How has His Majesty been doing lately?"
Leaning her head to the side, Lyanna seemed to sense something, her deep blue eyes sparkling with a hint of surprise. "Hmm..."
Noticing Lyanna's pause, Kirio also faltered slightly, about to say something, when she too sensed something and turned her gaze toward the entrance of the palace.
Three figures strode into the hall, led by Fengye. Dressed in a black and white haori, with a delicate bell hanging from his hair, he exuded an air of nobility in his every gesture, despite his unremarkable stature.
Having traversed four worlds, Fengye effortlessly embodied a wide range of identities. He could be the amicable and popular captain, a sinister villain, or, as in this case, the majestic and exalted Soul King.
"Having a feast, Kirio?" Fengye inquired with a casual smile as he strode into the palace.
Following closely behind him were Hizaru and Lilys, the former having matured significantly in the past two decades, exuding a gentle warmth in a snow-white kimono embroidered with cherry blossoms. Lilys, on the other hand, remained unchanged from long ago.
"Your Majesty," Kirio and Rukia said in unison, rising to pay their respects to Fengye.
Though Rukia had been considered Fengye's little sister when she was younger, as she grew up, she found the relationship awkward. Given Fengye's exalted status, addressing him as 'brother' felt too casual and flippant, so she usually resorted to calling him 'Your Majesty' instead.
Lyanna, however, was far less constrained. She reached out her arms and leaped toward Fengye, wrapping herself around his neck and hanging onto him affectionately, a joyful expression on her face.
"Daddy!" she exclaimed.
"Still as impolite as ever," Lilys remarked expressionlessly, her eyes half-lidded as she stood to Fengye's right.
Lyanna stuck her tongue out at Lilys. "Who asked you? I don't want to be like you, walking around with a perpetually stiff face."
Unfazed, Lilys retorted, "A defective creation like you, always causing trouble for Father, should keep quiet. Your existence is meaningless."
Lyanna stuck her tongue out again and pulled down her lower eyelid with her finger. "Your existence is the meaningless one. You're nothing but a block of wood."
"I can be used by Father at any time and become his weapon," Lilys stated flatly.
Lyanna lifted her chin. "That tiny bit of power is insignificant to Daddy. My abilities can help Daddy capture all sorts of girls."
"Hmm?" Fengye cocked an eyebrow.
Still holding Lyanna with his left arm, he raised his right hand and gave her a light tap on the head with the back of his hand.
Lyanna whined and hugged her head, pouting at Fengye.
"What mischief have you been up to this month?" Fengye asked casually as he carried her toward the feast table and took a seat at one end.
Lilys and Lyanna were polar opposites in terms of personality—one indifferent to most things and the other interested in everything—so it was inevitable that they clashed. Fengye had initially found their bickering amusing, but it had long since become commonplace.
Lyanna tilted her head, her big eyes curving into adorable crescents as she smiled mischievously. "You already know everything I do, Daddy."
On one hand, having reached his current height, he had no desire for such peculiar indulgences. On the other hand, the closer one came to being all-knowing and all-powerful, the closer one came to being a god, and the further one strayed from being human.
Such power needed only to be possessed; it need not be exercised at every turn. It was best used only when one wanted or needed to, and no more.
"I haven't been up to much, just got Rukia a Zanpakuto and gave her some basic training. She says she wants to become a great Shinigami," Lyanna said with a mischievous smile.
Despite being much younger than Rukia, Lyanna stood at a height far beyond Rukia's from the moment of her birth due to various reasons. Whether it was in terms of power or other aspects, she was already far ahead.
"Oh?" Fengye asked, his mouth full of the pastry he was eating as he turned to Rukia.
Rukia, who currently appeared to be only twelve or thirteen years old, nodded obediently towards Fengye, her eyes shining with determination. "Yes... I want to become a truly excellent Shinigami so that I can better serve by Your Majesty's side."
Even though her sister, Hina, had been granted the same surname as Fengye, she knew that both she and Hina had initially been nothing but ordinary souls with nothing to their names. Everything they had today was bestowed upon them by Fengye, and neither of them took his gifts for granted.
This was also why, as she grew up, she rarely asserted herself as Fengye's sister. She knew that she wasn't worthy of such a title or position yet.
"Mhm, that's a good aspiration," Fengye said with a casual smile, looking at Rukia's earnest expression.
He had taken in Hina and Rukia by chance, and later on, he had adopted Rukia as his little sister on a whim because she was so adorable.
Now that Rukia had grown a little, the fact that she didn't take her status for granted and act arrogantly because of it was commendable in Fengye's eyes. He would naturally not stop her from striving to improve herself and becoming stronger.
After some contemplation, Fengye turned to Rukia and said, "Since that's what you want, then go to the Soul Society and make your dream come true. Become an excellent Shinigami."
The Soul King Palace and the Hollow King Palace were too stable, and even without his presence, the Zero Squad of the Soul King Palace and the Hollow King Palace's Royal Guard were more than enough to suppress any potential troubles. There wouldn't be any growth or challenges for her here.
"Thank you, Your Majesty," Rukia said, her face lighting up with enthusiasm.
Standing by Fengye's side, Hina offered a gentle smile. She undoubtedly agreed with Rukia's choice. Both sisters had received too much from Fengye, and now, as his attendant, Hina took care of Fengye's daily life. Although she couldn't fully relax and enjoy the life she had now, she was at least fulfilling her duties.
Now that she was growing up, it was time for her to choose what she could do—whether it was serving Fengye, protecting him, or safeguarding the Soul King Palace and the Hollow King Palace.
"The Soul Society, huh..." Lyanna tilted her little head, looking at Fengye. "Can I go with her?"
The barriers between the Soul King Palace, the Hollow King Palace, and the Soul Society were no obstacles to her, but without Fengye's permission, she dared not sneak off to the Soul Society.
"Sure, go ahead," Fengye said, glancing at Lyanna and offering a gentle smile.
The reason he had forbidden Lyanna from going to the Soul Society before was that both she and Lilys hadn't been able to control their powers well. While they were fine within the Soul King Palace, their powers could unintentionally cause significant trouble in the Soul Society.
Moreover, whenever they used their powers in the past, it would trigger spiritual fluctuations in the Soul Society.
Now, however, both Lilys and Lyanna had stabilized their control over their powers, and even when they used them, they rarely caused any spiritual disturbances.
Furthermore, Fengye was planning to pay a visit to the Soul Society himself and finally go to a place he had never been before—the Invisible Empire, hidden in the shadows of the Seireitei!
