Chapter 622: Resolution
Chapter 622: Resolution
Rose Crystal and Rangerjames had been hiding in the surrounding forest, launching various ranged attacks on the Orc Chieftain since the battle began. Although these attacks couldn't injure Oberd—whether it was arrows or Crystal shards, he easily deflected them with his weapons—the ranged attacks still delayed the Orc Chieftain's movements, infuriating him to the point of constant roars.
Meanwhile, Hermione used Shadow Magic to fully restrain Oberd's actions while the Commander puppets held him off. Despite this, the Orc Chieftain still managed to force the Heavy-Armored Troll Puppet to retreat repeatedly, hacking away at its Valyrian Steel Armor, leaving deep gashes. Fortunately, the Troll's two Maces were sturdy enough to prevent Oberd from severing its weapons outright.
"Seals." Liam took advantage of Oberd's disarray and used Rose Madonna to cast the first Alchemical Magic. Instantly, all the Magic Aura around the Orc Chieftain dimmed, indicating that all his magic-related equipment had been sealed. Most noticeably, the large sword in his hand stopped glowing with fire and revealed its metallic blade like an ordinary sword.
"Transfiguration." Seizing the opportunity, Liam cast his second Alchemical Magic on Oberd's Armor. It began to writhe and merge, forming a metal coffin around the Orc Chieftain. Although the Chieftain managed to shatter the Armor and break free, he was still struck on the shoulder by a Mace.
"Life Drain." As the Shadows wrapped around Oberd's body once more, Hermione used them as a medium to absorb the Life Force from the Orcs. However, out of her understanding of death, she didn't absorb the Life Force for herself but let it flow into the ground. Soon, the nearby plants came to life, and Hermione felt the gratitude of nature.
This Magic exacerbated Oberd's injuries. The Mace's blow had shattered his left shoulder blade and caused internal bleeding. Relying on his powerful regenerative abilities, he could have continued to fight for a while, but now the bleeding intensified, and his Life Force rapidly drained, leaving him on the brink of collapse.
"Mana Explosion." Liam noticed this and immediately created a ball of primal Alchemical power, which he transformed into a pink beam and struck the Orc Chieftain's chest. The force caused random mutations in the skin, blood, bones, and muscles upon contact. Then, an unknown magical reaction caused the Orc's chest to explode.
This was a fatal blow. Oberd's heart and most of his lungs were completely shattered, and such a severe injury was beyond even a Master-level Orc warrior's ability to withstand. The Orc Chieftain let out a final, defiant roar before falling backward. Blood gushed from his chest like a fountain, staining the ground and forming a pool of red.
With the target eliminated, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Liam and his companions had never encountered such a formidable enemy before, so their initial responses were a bit clumsy. Fortunately, they adjusted their tactics and regained their rhythm.
Next, Liam created a Synthetic Amber to seal the souls and used a Spatial Bag to store the Orc Chieftain and Shaman's bodies along with their equipment. In this world, Mages were like money-burning machines, and at Liam's level, sometimes even money wasn't enough. So, to ensure his future studies, he carefully cleaned up the battlefield.
Rangerjames had already reported their day's haul back to Silvermoon City. Soon, Lady Elastron's charming and crisp voice came through his Harper Badge.
"Friends from afar, your performance today has exceeded my expectations. You have eliminated a long-standing threat to the peace and stability of Silvermoon City and the entire Northern Lands. I now request that you remain there a bit longer until our reinforcements arrive, after which you can return. Of course, I guarantee that your compensation will be increased."
"Rest assured, I'll ensure the landing site's safety", Liam promised. It seemed the surrounding orcs were too terrified from the previous battle to investigate what had happened here. Liam and his companions waited smoothly for Talen Hornbreadmage and an unknown paladin to arrive.
Clearly, they had used the city's Mage Tower to teleport over. Upon seeing them, Talen Hornbreadmage greeted them with a mage's salute. "Friends from afar, your contributions to Silvermoon City will be remembered forever. Lady Elastron awaits you at the Supreme Palace. I have other duties, so I cannot accompany you."
With that, he and the paladin hurried off in the direction of the Orcish Court. It appeared that Silvermoon City had prepared their forces to decisively deal with the orcs, who were in disarray after losing half their armed strength, their chieftain, and their shaman.
Liam and his companions returned to Silvermoon City with Ranger James, and the journey was smooth. Once inside the city, they bid James farewell and returned to their newly purchased residence to rest. After two days of intense fighting, they felt utterly exhausted and in dire need of a good rest.
"Liam, wake up. The sun's up. And you’re pressing on my hair again", Hermione shook him awake when Liam was still half-asleep.
"Sorry, my sleeping posture isn't very good when I'm tired", Liam said, getting up. Sure enough, he found a few strands of long brown hair on the pillow. He looked out the window and said a bit sheepishly, "Looks like I overslept."
"It's not as bad as you think", Hermione said. "This time, we only slept for a whole day. It's much better than the week you slept after making the Rose Madonna. Come on, get ready. We need to see Lady Elastron today to claim our reward. It's best not to keep her waiting."
After getting up and having breakfast together, Liam, Hermione, and Rose Crystal walked to the Supreme Palace. At the palace entrance, a stern-looking herald greeted them. From his expression and formal attire, Liam saw shadows of the noble butlers from Britain.
Upon seeing Rose Crystal, the herald paused for a moment, but quickly regained his composure, as he had already been briefed by Lady Elastron. He led them directly through the palace gates and straight to the southernmost Radiant Lady's Tower.
Radiant Lady's Tower was Lady Elastron's residence and the Mage Tower of Silvermoon City. As the city's most powerful mage and an Arcane Chosen, with centuries of accumulated knowledge, this Magic Tower was the strongest in the city.
This was Liam's first time entering an active Magic Tower. Unlike the ones in games, this Magic Tower was much larger than they had imagined. The ground floor alone was larger than the Great Hall at Hogwarts. In the center of this dimension was a fountain, with a massive, three-meter-tall sky-blue diamond crystal floating above the central pillar.
The ground floor of the Magic Tower was bustling with people, mostly followers and vassals of Lady Elastron, with a majority being casters. Additionally, there were magic apprentices from various magic houses in Silvermoon City, who came here to learn magic, conduct experiments, or take on various tasks.
As the herald led Liam and his companions inside, many of the magic apprentices looked at them curiously. It was rare for strangers to be summoned by Lady Elastron.
Liam and his companions stopped at a Crystal Pillar, and the herald waved his badge. "Tower Spirit, teleport us to the fifth floor."
"Temporary Level 2 Access confirmed. Target confirmed. Please wait."
