Chapter 621: The Eve of the Sports Festival
Chapter 621: The Eve of the Sports Festival
Rebels in the Shadows? Oppressed Humans?
When Lord Lindsey saw these words, he naturally thought of the humans that had been bred and kept by the Deviators.
But then he recalled the news that Dune had brought a few days ago.
The enslaved laborers within the Green Swamp seemed to fit this description as well.
"..."
In his contemplation, Lord Lindsey decided to open the strategic map.
He wanted to glean some information from the personnel changes on the map, but even after spending over an hour, he still couldn't find much useful information, even after returning to his residence and sitting at his desk.
The reputation of the Forest Capital was too resounding.
On the roads built by the workers, every one or two days, he could see human groups heading towards the Banyan Forest, but it was unrealistic to expect to discern any information from them unless the Puzzle Game was upgraded to levels five or six.
As for the Green Swamp and the Underground World, Dune's exploration of the former was not comprehensive, and the strategic map was shrouded in heavy fog, severely obstructing visibility. As for the latter, the vastness of the Underworld exceeded imagination, and it would be an exaggeratedly massive undertaking for Lord Lindsey to inspect it individually; it was definitely not something that could be accomplished in just a few hours.
However, as he casually glanced at the map again, Lord Lindsey discovered another Deviator settlement, which his Insectoid forces had dealt with. The captured humans were being escorted back to the surface and were on their way to the Banyan Forest.
Lord Lindsey turned to look at Vivian:
"By the way, Vivian, when I went to the Forest Academy with Hilda, weren't you exploring the territory? What's the situation with those humans who were brought here earlier?"
Vivian immediately replied:
"The specific work is being handled by Sister Hilda."
"In a short time, it's difficult for them to develop the intelligence of normal humans, but after receiving education in the university, the direct imparting of knowledge seems to accelerate the establishment of their personalities."
Lord Lindsey nodded slightly:
"After all, knowledge is also an important part of building one's personality."
"But since that's the case, I'll set aside two more locations to build academies. I'll ask Hilda to focus on nurturing teaching talents, and we'll also provide specialized assistance to the humans who are rescued in the future."
After finishing his work, Lord Lindsey set off immediately.
He didn't build these two new Forest Academies together with the first one but instead placed them in two separate directions, one to the south and the other to the north.
Having arranged the construction frameworks, Lord Lindsey headed to the original Forest Academy to assign tasks to Hilda.
However, as he stepped on a sloping branch and made his way to the library, he became puzzled:
"Hmm?"
"Why hasn't anyone come out?"
Lord Lindsey was perplexed.
Usually, even if he just stepped on a branch, as long as he approached the academy, Hilda would push her wheelchair like a jet, rushing out to greet him first.
This morning, when Lord Lindsey returned, she had even come all the way to the edge of the forest to welcome him.
This kind of indifferent situation was indeed rare.
"There's a heartbeat, and I can hear breathing."
"The sound seems to be coming from a low position; is she lying on the ground?"
As he drew closer, Lord Lindsey heard voices coming from the window.
He grabbed onto a tree trunk and flipped himself inside, only to see Hilda lying on the ground next to her wheelchair.
The girl was unconscious.
"Hilda! What's wrong?"
Lord Lindsey quickly went to check on her.
There were no apparent injuries on the girl's body.
Lord Lindsey, or Lin Sai, examined the unconscious woman, his appraisal skill revealing the cause of her state.
---
[Emotional Quintessence depleted, causing this female human to fall into a coma.]
"..."
"What has she done now?"
Lin Sai's expression was hard to read. Among the various types of Quintessence he was familiar with, the depletion of basic Quintessence or the Merchant's Value Quintessence posed the least risk. The complete exhaustion of these would only prevent an Awakener from using their Techniques, but nothing more.
It was the Life Quintessence, which could prolong one's lifespan, that was the most problematic.
Once it was used up, it meant the end of life.
As for the depletion of Emotional or Will Quintessence, it would lead to a state of unconsciousness, as was the case with Hilda now.
Lin Sai analyzed the young writer's consistent personality.
Almost instinctively, he guessed that Hilda must have peered into something extraordinary, which had led to her current state.
"Last time she peeked into Fate, she nearly lost all her abilities."
"And now, with barely any Quintessence recovered, she's at it again."
"These artists... when it comes to their obsessions, they're truly set in their ways."
With a sense of helplessness, Lin Sai began his analysis.
Currently, they were in the Wildlands, not a place where just anyone could peer into Fate like in the City of a Thousand Sails.
"Probably... won't cause any trouble?"
Lin Sai checked his skills and equipment.
Neither the Task Bar nor the Sky Compass gave any warnings.
"Then, let's find a way to wake Hilda up."
Lin Sai furrowed his brows.
Hilda's current issue required replenishing her fundamental Quintessence.
However, the ability to replenish another's fundamental Quintessence was extremely rare, and the conversion between different types of Quintessence was a significant challenge.
Not only did Lin Sai lack this ability, but he couldn't recall anyone else possessing it either.
It seemed that the only time he had encountered such power was when Alvitr used it to heal his life-threatening injuries before sending him away from his homeland.
Lin Sai couldn't come up with a solution at the moment.
He had no choice but to carry Hilda back to her wheelchair and push her towards his house.
On their way back, Lin Sai spotted Hammer hurrying towards him.
"Lord Lindsey, wait!"
Lin Sai stopped and waited for Hammer to catch up.
"What's the matter?"
"Do you have any questions about the two building outlines I just set up? They're both the Forest Academy, and I plan to expand our territory's educational efforts in the future."
Hammer nodded and then shook his head.
"Yes, I understand about the educational plans. However, I have another matter to discuss with you."
Lin Sai nodded slightly.
"Go ahead."
Hammer continued, "Lord Lindsey, we informed the various factions in the east about the sports event. Their envoys will be arriving in the coming days. Do you want to meet with each delegation personally?"
"..."
Other factions were sending envoys to participate in the sports event? In the Wasteland World, there were no modern means of transportation like airplanes or high-speed trains.
People traveled by foot, and because of this, time estimation could be challenging, so it was understandable for some to arrive early.
Upon hearing this news, Lin Sai checked his Task Bar again.
[Rebels in the Shadows]
The Oppressed Humans were seeking aid...
He thought for a moment and said, "No problem. We should take this seriously."
"Hammer, arrange for me to meet with each delegation individually."
