Chapter 621: I'll Have to Use the Forgetfulness Charm Again
Chapter 621: I'll Have to Use the Forgetfulness Charm Again
Not long after Fudge's departure, Conna entered the Three Broomsticks with two bags of sweets.
"So, the person you're looking for this time is the Minister of Magic?" she couldn't help but ask.
"Yes," Kyle laughed, "Fudge came to persuade me to drop out. He wants me to become the next Minister of Magic right now."
When Conna heard the first half of his sentence, she felt a sudden panic, but after hearing the latter half, she quickly reacted and threw a bag of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans at Kyle, saying irritably:
"Then why don't you go? Youngest Minister."
"No, I actually refused," Kyle chuckled as he caught the beans, "Being the Minister of Magic is so boring, the workload is even heavier than fifth-year homework, and it's not interesting at all."
"As if you could really become one," Conna bluntly exposed Kyle's words.
"Okay, I can't become one," Kyle said, "but Professor Dumbledore could."
"What?" Conna blinked in confusion, "Is Professor Dumbledore going to run for Minister of Magic?"
"We have to make Fudge feel a sense of crisis, don't we?" Kyle picked a bean and popped it into his mouth, "So he won't keep trying to trip us up."
Then, Kyle briefly explained the plan he had discussed with Professor Dumbledore.
"You want Fudge to believe this is Professor Dumbledore's scheme?"
Conna frowned after listening, "But this way, he'll definitely become more aggressive, won't he? Professor Snape told me that Fudge is very power-hungry, and he values the position of Minister more than anything else. He would never let Professor Dumbledore take it away from him."
"Don't worry, no one will take it from him," Kyle assured her, "Remember what I said earlier? This is just an illusion to make him feel threatened."
Kyle explained, "Our initial goal was to deal with the Resurgent Dark Lord, and the Ministry of Magic is one of the most crucial forces to consider.
"But Fudge, due to his fear or reluctance to cause trouble for himself, has been strongly denying this fact."
"That's true," Conna nodded involuntarily.
Throughout the holiday, the Daily Prophet kept emphasizing that the Dark Lord had not resurrected and that Professor Dumbledore's previous statements were nonsense.
By the second month, she couldn't be bothered to read that newspaper anymore.
"So, you're going to trick Fudge into believing that the Minister of Magic during wartime can serve consecutive terms?"
"No, that's a fact," Kyle shook his head, "Take Minister Hector Wilkes, for example. As his term was about to end, he was in office for fifteen years because of the war started by Grindelwald, but he himself never took the threat posed by Grindelwald to the entire Wizarding World seriously, which led to his removal from office."
"Grindelwald?" Conna repeated softly, recalling that she had heard the name but couldn't quite remember at the moment.
"Yes," Kyle said, "The Dark Lord before the Dark Lord, who caused unrest throughout Europe and even North America."
"But..." Conna continued, "As far as I know, when the Dark Lord and the Death Eaters gained power, the Ministry also replaced two Ministers, didn't they?"
"No, they were removed because of their incompetence," Kyle explained, "They couldn't handle the trouble caused by the Dark Lord. If they had done a good enough job, even if it was just average, they could have stayed in office.
"Alright," Conna nodded, not having paid much attention to this before.
At this moment, the Three Broomsticks was gradually filling up, and all the tables were occupied, with some people standing and searching for empty seats.
Soon, they noticed the corner table, and several Hufflepuff sixth-year students approached.
After all, the table was quite large, but only Kyle and Conna were sitting there, and it wouldn't be a problem to accommodate two or three more people.
"Let's go back," Conna suggested.
With so many people around, it was challenging to ensure that their ongoing conversation wouldn't be overheard by others, and if it were to spread, it could become troublesome.
"Okay," Kyle nodded.
The two of them stood up, greeted the approaching students, and then left the Three Broomsticks.
As it was not yet noon, the walk back to school was quiet, and there was not a single person in sight besides them.
The two continued their previous conversation.
"Do you think the Minister will believe you? What will he do?"
"I'm not sure," Kyle shook his head, "but one thing is certain: he won't believe it right away. During this time, he will probably target Professor Dumbledore first."
"Aren't you worried that he'll put your words in the newspaper, telling everyone that the Dark Lord's resurrection is Professor Dumbledore's plot to become the Minister of Magic?"
"This is the one thing I'm not worried about at all," Kyle shook his head with a smile, "From the day Fudge became Minister, he's been worried that Professor Dumbledore would take his position. Because he knows that both in terms of popularity and ability, he is far inferior to Professor Dumbledore.
"So no matter what, he won't make this matter public. To put it simply, regardless of whether it's a conspiracy or not, if Professor Dumbledore truly wants to become the Minister, countless people will immediately choose to support him.
"Fudge won't create trouble for himself, and most importantly... if he has thoughts of re-election, he will also choose to suppress this matter, targeting only Professor Dumbledore."
Conna nodded, not entirely understanding, as they approached the gates of Hogwarts. Suddenly, she thought of something.
"What if Fudge doesn't want to be re-elected, and you prove in the newspaper that the Dark Lord hasn't resurrected, and Professor Dumbledore is lying?" she asked.
"Then I'd be embarrassed," Kyle spread his hands and smiled, "But the probability of this happening is too low. If Fudge were to do this, I'd actually look up to him."
"But if it does happen, won't you be standing against Professor Dumbledore?"
Conna expressed her concern, "And after you join, people will even less likely believe that the Dark Lord has resurrected."
"What about Professor Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, and Professor Sprout? Won't they misunderstand you?"
"No, that won't happen," Kyle looked up at the two winged wart hogs on the gate, "If it comes to that, I'll just use the Forget Charm again."
"Use the Forget Charm again?" Conna asked in confusion, "Did you just use the Forget Charm?"
"Not just now, but when I was imprisoned by Umbridge, I used it once," Kyle explained as they walked through the school gates and headed towards the castle.
