Chapter 62: He's the Guy Riding the Dragon's Back!
Chapter 62: He's the Guy Riding the Dragon’s Back!
"First, Mr. Harry Potter, Mr. Ron Weasley, and Miss Hermione Granger, who promptly noticed the unusual activities in the Forbidden Forest and chose to inform the professors, thus preventing greater damage to the school."
At this point, Dumbledore's gaze lingered on Ivan for a moment. If it weren't for the timely notification from Harry and the others, the Forbidden Forest might have been completely destroyed.
Ivan, however, wasn't particularly regretful. If he hadn't set the fire, Quirrell, who was only grazed by the Fire Dragon, might have come back to attack, and he and Hagrid probably wouldn't have survived until the reinforcements arrived.
"For this, I will award each of them twenty points!" Dumbledore said.
The Gryffindor table immediately erupted in enthusiastic applause. An additional sixty points was enough to push Gryffindor College past the second-ranked Ravenclaw and match the top-ranked Slytherin.
Harry was so excited he almost jumped out of his seat. The gloom in his heart was swept away, and he couldn't resist glancing at Snape to see how disappointed he looked. However, when he turned around, he found that Snape still had his usual expression, showing no change at all.
Hermione was more reserved, but the smile at the corner of her mouth betrayed her excitement.
Ron raised his head high. This was the first time he had received such applause from so many people.
After the applause continued for a while, Dumbledore continued.
"Next, Mr. Ivan Hagrid! Thanks to his quick thinking and bravery, he successfully repelled the attackers, allowing Hagrid to be rescued.
I hereby award Gryffindor College an additional fifty points!"
As soon as Dumbledore finished speaking, the hall fell into a brief silence. Countless eyes turned to Ivan, and even several professors looked at him with disbelief.
Although they weren't entirely clear about what had happened in the Forbidden Forest, they had heard the dragon's roar, seen the thick smoke, and knew that even the large Hagrid had been attacked. The danger was evident.
Moreover, Dumbledore had clearly stated that the attackers were repelled by Ivan, not the professors who arrived to provide support.
Clap, clap, clap
In the silent Great Hall, Dumbledore was the first to clap.
A moment later, the hall erupted in thunderous applause.
This time, it wasn't just the Gryffindor College. Apart from a few jealous individuals, even the young Wizards from the other three houses joined in the applause.
Even the proud Slytherins had to admit that Ivan's actions had surpassed their expectations.
This was the second time Ivan had experienced such a scene, so he wasn't particularly excited. Instead, he found it a bit strange. Shouldn't they be trying to keep these matters as secret as possible?
The deafening applause lasted for several minutes before gradually subsiding.
Then, the young Wizards in the hall looked expectantly at Dumbledore, wondering if he would mention the dragon next.
To their surprise, Dumbledore had no intention of doing so. Instead, he waved his wand, and the four long tables were soon filled with after-dinner desserts.
Cream puddings, Chocolate Cake, Cornflakes, Crushed Almond Ice Cream—just looking at them made one's mouth water.
"I believe you might need some desserts to help calm your excited hearts", Dumbledore paused and then added.
"As for the attacker, there's no need to worry too much. I have identified him, and the Ministry of Magic will be sending people to investigate shortly. As long as you stay inside the castle, you won't be in any danger."
Dumbledore's words always had a magical quality, inspiring trust, and even the professors on the stage looked less worried.
Ivan paid no attention and continued eating his dessert. He had gone to Hagrid's hut in the afternoon, and with all the events that transpired, he hadn't even had dinner yet.
After speaking, Dumbledore intended to leave, as he had many things to handle.
But just then, someone at the Gryffindor table spoke up.
"Professor, what about the Fire Dragon? Are you going to talk about that?"
The room fell silent, and Dumbledore paused in his steps.
Ivan, still eating his custard pudding, turned to see who had spoken. He was somewhat surprised—it was Seamus Finnigan, the explosives genius. Ivan hadn't expected him to have such courage.
Under Dumbledore's "kind" gaze, Seamus stood up, trembling slightly. However, the old headmaster clearly had no intention of reprimanding him and explained.
"I must remind you that Hogwarts is not authorized by the Ministry of Magic to keep dragons. The dragon's roar could be the result of some magic. There are many ways to achieve this effect, as I know. When I first became headmaster, some young Wizards enjoyed pulling similar pranks. Filch used to hang these students in a small dark room, and I always advised him to be more lenient with the children."
Dumbledore began telling his little story, pretending everyone was enjoying it.
Ivan rolled his eyes, mentally criticizing Dumbledore for his usual act of feigning madness.
"But, I saw it with my own eyes", Seamus said, clearly nervous but still insisting. "It was about the size of a house, maybe even bigger, with four legs, a pair of wings, and it could breathe fire!"
The other young Wizards laughed. Wasn't that just a standard description of a dragon from any story?
"I'm not lying to you!" Seamus shouted, his face turning red.
Ivan understood immediately. Seamus must have accidentally seen Norbert and then boasted about it to others. Now, with Dumbledore denying the existence of the dragon, Seamus naturally couldn't let it go and mustered the courage to speak up.
However, Seamus's vague description of Norbert made Ivan a bit puzzled, but he soon figured it out.
Hogwarts Castle was situated on high ground, and only during Norbert's dive from the sky could it have been seen from the castle. Due to the distance, Seamus likely didn't see it clearly.
After understanding this, Ivan picked up a glass of iced lemonade and sipped it, curious to see how Dumbledore would explain it.
But before Dumbledore could respond, Seamus seemed to remember something.
"I also remember that someone was riding on the back of that Fire Dragon."
"I can't be a hundred percent sure, but I think it was probably Hagrid!" Seamus said loudly.
Pfft~
Ivan spat out his drink, looking at Seamus in frustration. From such a distance, you could still see him? You might as well call yourself Seamus the Eagle-Eyed instead of Seamus the Explosives Genius!
