Chapter 62: Enchanted Artifact
Chapter 62: Enchanted Artifact
Karl carefully picked up the ring from the ground, examining it closely only after moving away from the 'City of Forgotten Souls'.
The ring lay quietly in the palm of his hand, unadorned, with a smooth and cool touch. Its design was simple yet elegant, with sleek lines.
It was just an ordinary plain gold ring, but it seemed to possess a special magic that made it hard to look away.
On the inner circle, there were a few small, inconspicuous words engraved.
Karl whispered as he sounded out the letters:
"Guna..."
"Shua!"
These syllables seemed to activate something, and the ring suddenly trembled, moving on its own towards Karl's finger.
It chose his left ring finger.
"Click!"
The ring slid onto his finger, and Karl felt a slight pain, which quickly subsided, returning everything to normal.
Upon closer inspection, one could see fine threads of blood on the inner circle of the ring, seeping into the ring's interior, as if the ring was undergoing some kind of magical transformation.
Karl focused his mind and spoke again:
"Guna!"
"Buzz..."
The ring suddenly glowed.
In the glow, seven items appeared out of thin air, floating in an orderly manner, like soldiers awaiting their general's command.
There were seven items in total: a helmet, a breastplate, elbow guards, gauntlets, a skirt-like armor, knee guards, and greaves, forming a complete set of armor.
Following his intuition, Karl held out his hand.
"Shua!"
The floating armor pieces suddenly converged towards him, rushing to cover his body.
Each piece found its designated position and adhered to his body, tightly enveloping him.
"Clack!"
With a crisp sound, an Obsidian Warrior appeared.
The armor stood tall, like a majestic mountain, emanating an aura of solemnity and icy killing intent.
Each part, each plate, seemed to have been tempered by the passage of time, shining with a cold metallic luster.
The design was simple, without overly complex patterns or decorations.
However, while ensuring the wearer's flexibility, the armor maximized its defensive capabilities.
What truly surprised Karl was not the armor itself but the means by which it had appeared.
"Void Storage?"
"Auto-Assemble!"
Auto-Assemble was a first-tier Sorcery that allowed enchanted items to automatically adjust to the size of the caster.
Void Storage was a second-tier Sorcery, similar to the storage space Karl remembered, capable of storing items.
Astonishingly, this ring bore the inscriptions of two types of Sorcery, and one of them was a second-tier Sorcery!
It was unknown if there were any second-tier Sorcerers in the entire Gondor Kingdom.
"Enchanted Artifact!"
This was indeed an Enchanted Artifact, a second-tier or higher-tier Enchanted Artifact.
The owner of such an item must have been incredibly powerful in their lifetime, yet they had turned into a pile of dry bones in front of the City of Forgotten Souls, further confirming to Karl that he must never approach that city.
Karl raised his hand, and the ring, named Guna, shimmered with a faint light beneath the intricate iron plates of his glove.
Unfortunately, the seemingly indestructible armor was actually severely damaged.
Perhaps it was the passage of time.
Perhaps it was a past injury.
In any case,
This Enchanted Weapon had lost its former power.
"However..."
Karl's eyes flickered, and his broadsword slid out of its sheath with a ringing sound, slicing towards his shoulder.
"Clang!"
Sparks flew.
Karl's body shuddered slightly, and a smile appeared on his face.
As a noble, he had seen many armors collected by the wealthy and the powerful, but this armor's defensive capabilities surpassed any he had ever seen.
Unless a formal Knight attacked with full force, there was little chance of Karl being injured while protected by this armor.
"Clatter..."
A faint sound came from behind him.
Karl's eyes shifted, and the armor on his body instantly transformed into a stream of light, disappearing into the ring.
He turned around and headed back the way he came.
When Karl returned, everyone had awakened.
Three City Guard soldiers were shouting loudly, ordering others to carry the bodies of the scouts who had fallen while exploring the path ahead.
At the same time,
They were searching through several of the bodies, taking all the valuable items and putting them into their own pockets.
No wonder they didn't confiscate Karl and the others' belongings at the beginning. It turns out they weren't in a hurry at all.
After all, the people here can't escape, and it's easier to take their things when they die.
"Get up quickly!"
One of the soldiers kicked Xiaonan, who was reacting slowly, and cursed angrily:
"You bunch of useless idiots! You still haven't found the end after all this time. Hurry up and keep moving forward!"
"Hmm!"
Xiaonan grunted in pain, struggling to get up.
He wanted to say that he had just arrived and that not finding the end had nothing to do with him. However, he knew that speaking up would only result in insults, so he decided to remain silent.
"Captain..."
At this moment, someone in the crowd raised their hand shakily:
"I have something to report."
"Oh!"
The soldier turned around, looking on with interest:
"What is it? Speak up, I'm listening."
"Someone is trying to escape." The man swallowed his saliva, suppressed his fear of the soldier, and pointed at Karl:
"It's him!"
Hmm?
Karl's expression darkened.
Xiaonan and Lyon's faces paled, and they instinctively tensed their bodies, grabbing the weapons beside them.
"Oh!"
The soldier turned around, looking at them with a mocking smile:
"Really?"
"Yes!" The informant nodded emphatically:
"I heard him say he wanted to leave here with my own ears. He even asked if anyone knew a way out."
"I'm asking you!" The soldier strode up to Karl, hitting him on the shoulder with the hilt of his sword:
"Is it true?"
He raised his neck high, looking down at Karl as if he were looking at a disgusting insect.
His actions were filled with contempt.
"..." Karl pursed his lips:
"Yes."
"You've got some guts!" The soldier's eyes widened, his anger erupting as he slapped Karl with the back of his hand:
"I'm asking you!"
"Pfft!"
The slap never landed.
A sword blade pierced the soldier's throat, protruding from the back of his head, causing his movement to freeze in place.
Karl slowly drew out his longsword, letting the soldier's body fall in front of him, his face devoid of any emotional reaction.
His movements were too fast.
Too sudden.
It exceeded everyone's expectations, and for a moment, the people in the field were left stunned, unable to react.
Until a roar broke the silence.
"Ah!"
"You killed Pete!"
The other two soldiers' faces paled, and they drew their longswords, roaring as they charged forward.
Even the corpse carriers screamed softly, rushing upwards, shouting something.
The ground trembled slightly.
Karl's figure instantly vanished from where he stood, and he charged forward like a fierce tiger descending from the mountain or a ravenous bear on the hunt.
"Bang!"
The three of them collided heavily.
The soldiers, clad in armor, were indeed formidable, but in front of Karl, they were like fragile clay dolls that shattered upon impact.
Two figures were sent flying.
"Swish!"
The sword shadows flashed in quick succession.
Karl, wielding a broadsword, appeared several meters away, and the two soldiers' heads had already been severed in mid-air.
The headless corpses fell one after the other, blood gushing from their necks.
"I asked."
He turned around, looking at the informant, his voice cold:
"So what?"
"You... You..." The informant's face turned pale, and he backed away, pointing at Karl:
"The City Guard won't let you get away with this!"
"Hmph!"
Xiaonan scoffed, holding up his shield and charging forward:
"We're all going to die anyway. Let's fight them to the end!"
"Yes."
Lyon echoed:
"Let's fight them!"
The two of them surrounded the informant, punching and kicking him.
The others, however, remained indifferent, showing no signs of shared anger. Instead, they began to retreat.
Jacqueline, Mund, Dunlop...
They all looked on coldly, their gazes towards Karl as if he were already dead.
"Huff..."
Just then, a gust of wind suddenly blew through the field, and a strong wind howled through the rear passage. A figure appeared, floating in the air.
"Someone else dares to rebel?"
The newcomer scanned the situation in the field, his gaze falling on Karl, his eyes turning cold:
"You're asking for death!"
Before he could finish speaking, a flash of blade light appeared.
