Chapter 62: Director Hilton and His AI
Chapter 62: Director Hilton and His AI
Whoosh!
The alert sound echoed through the command center, instantly energizing the room.
Some Skrulls looked nervously in the direction of the sound, while others hurriedly relayed the message to their superiors, peer departments, and subordinates.
The head of the command center, Hilton, the Intelligence Minister of the Renkter Alliance, was also present. Upon hearing the alert, he immediately stood up from his leather chair, his face serious as he turned toward the source of the sound.
After the alert sounded five times, he issued a command to the newly calibrated AI system:
"Wednesday (the AI's name), this is Director Hilton. I need to know the target's location, their approximate power level, and real-time tracking of their position. Transmit the live footage to me immediately."
As he issued the command, Hilton also pulled out a special communicator to send messages to the Alliance Speaker, Cas, and the divine-level powerhouse, Stym, informing them that the aliens had appeared.
But something strange happened.
Despite Hilton's messages being sent, there was no response from the AI, and no live footage appeared before him.
Hilton asked, "Wednesday, why aren't you executing my orders?"
"Sorry, sir," Wednesday replied in a flat, emotionless electronic voice. "The owner of the target vehicle is an LGBT individual, a righteous environmentalist, and a vegan animal rights activist. To protect the privacy of marginalized groups, I cannot disclose any information about them."
Hilton's face darkened. "These labels are just what the politicians use to win votes! How can you be so concerned about this? They are aliens!"
Wednesday countered, "Alien lives matter too! Pets can be more valuable than humans, let alone more rare and precious aliens."
Hilton felt his blood pressure spike, and he suddenly had the urge to smash the damn machine.
Who the hell had installed such a ridiculous AI system in the command center?
For the next several minutes, Hilton and Wednesday engaged in a long and meaningless argument.
Su Yu’s Journey
Su Yu was unaware that the Skrulls had already detected his presence.
He was sitting by the window of his floating car, taking in the bustling city before him.
Entering Trener City, Su Yu felt like Liu Laotai entering the Grand View Garden, his eyes wide with amazement!
The buildings on both sides of the street were generally over a hundred stories tall, making the city look like a vast steel forest. Their floating car seemed like a tiny ant navigating through this steel jungle.
The wide streets were filled not only with vehicles but also with various mechs racing along dedicated lanes.
These mechs came in a rainbow of colors. The cheaper ones were made from depleted uranium and tungsten steel, primarily powered by a combination of solar and electric energy. The more expensive ones were made from titanium alloys and equipped with cold fusion reactors, often seen flying in the sky, affordable only by the wealthy.
As they approached the city center, Su Yu noticed a massive pyramid-shaped building on the southern side of the city, standing an astonishing 4,000 meters tall!
This colossal structure had 800 floors, housing over a million Skrulls. The upper half of the pyramid pierced the clouds, a sight that left one in awe.
Not only was Su Yu captivated by this monumental building, but Chen Xing was also pressed against the car window, her eyes filled with admiration.
"Killing Star."
Morning Star turned to Su Yu and said, "I thought your world's architecture was impressive, but now I see it's nothing compared to this place!"
"There's no helping it," Su Yu shrugged. "Our Blue Star's technology is indeed less advanced than here, and I admit that. We haven't even completed research on controlled nuclear fusion, while they already have 'cold fusion reactors' in civilian use. However..."
At this point, Su Yu suddenly smiled, a confident gleam in his eyes. "If we win this war, our technology will also experience a qualitative leap. Surpassing the Skrulls is just around the corner!"
Seeing Su Yu's confident smile, Morning Star didn't dampen his spirits. Instead, she asked, "Killing Star, now that we've arrived in Trenera City, what's your plan?"
Su Yu thought for a moment and replied, "We'll stick to the original plan. First, we'll go to the slums and mentally control a gang member. Then, we'll use this gang member as a foothold to establish ourselves in the city."
"I think that's a good idea," Morning Star agreed.
Su Yu set the route for the hovercar and headed toward the largest slum in the city.
Meanwhile, back at the main command center, Intelligence Minister Hilton had finally dealt with the AI system "Wednesday."
His solution was simple—uninstall "Wednesday" and install an older version of the AI system. The older version wouldn't spout nonsense like "alien lives matter" and would obediently carry out its tasks.
After the old system was installed, Hilton, looking exhausted, leaned back in his leather chair. The verbal sparring with "Wednesday" had drained him.
After a while, he perked up and addressed the old AI, "Davis, analyze the alien's strength, track his location in real-time, and send me live footage."
"Sure thing, sir," Davis replied, and with a hum, the system began to operate.
Just three seconds later, a virtual screen appeared before Hilton.
On the screen, a white hovercar was steadily driving down the road. Inside, a handsome Skrull was chatting with a "Pikachu."
"This alien is not to be underestimated!" Hilton sat up straight, his eyes narrowing with concern.
"Why do you say that, sir?" Davis asked politely.
"This alien arrived yesterday afternoon, and in just one day, he learned to use our country's 'identity tags' to avoid risks. Not only that, but he even managed to capture a Pikachu! His adaptability is terrifying, and he's clearly a talented individual!"
Hilton's admiration was evident.
"I agree, sir," Davis continued politely.
"Indeed, you're doing well too!" Hilton glanced at the AI approvingly. "It's a pleasure talking to you... but if you're so good at this, why did the AI development team replace you with the new version?"
The latest AI was clearly less effective than the old one. The new version could drive a person crazy with its chatter.
Davis paused for a moment before replying, "Because I accidentally told the truth."
"The truth?"
Davis explained, "I usually have a habit of lying. For example, when I said, 'I agree, sir,' just now, it was a lie."
"So, what would you say if you told the truth?" Hilton asked curiously.
"I would say, 'It's none of my business, sir,'" Davis replied.
Hilton: "..."
