Chapter 62: Clairvoyance
Chapter 62: Clairvoyance
As soon as Guiping finished speaking and stepped down, a large group of experts from the ruins rushed forward eagerly. Their enthusiasm startled You Xuan, and their fervor made him feel as if they wanted to push him into a corner for interrogation. He almost called out for Silence to escort him.
Fortunately, although these people looked thirsty, they did not get hands-on. Instead, they asked him about what had happened, chattering incessantly.
You Xuan then briefly narrated how he had been sucked into the Spirit World by simply touching the stone tablet, his experiences there, what he had heard about the evil god trying to devour the Spirit World, and his subsequent encounter and duel with the thief, Kis. He recalled a similar incident that had occurred when he was playing the Oliphagan chapter with Atum. In that game, a dark magic girl had begged them to defeat the evil god of Oliphagan and save the Spirit World.
The experts were not particularly interested in his card game with Kis but asked in detail about the appearance of the Chaos Warrior.
"There's one more important thing," said the team leader, his hairline slightly receding, his eyes bearing the telltale signs of countless all-nighters.
"Did you experience 'clairvoyance'?"
You Xuan was taken aback. "What's that?"
The researchers exchanged strange looks. Then, as if remembering something, the leader said, "Oh right, you're supposed to start school this year. You'll learn about this in detail when you get to the academy.
Simply put, it's a phenomenon that occurs in a small number of duelists who achieve a high level of resonance with spirits. Usually, we believe that those with the 'spirit affinity' talent have a greater chance of experiencing clairvoyance, but it is also true that duelists without this talent can experience it as well."
"So, what is it?"
"It's the possibility of spirits," the leader said, gesturing with his hands. "This is something that cannot be determined. Some people see visions of duel monsters that seem to be from ancient times, while others have specific scenes or objects appear in their minds...
The meaning behind many 'clairvoyant' visions remains a mystery to this day. But there are also many examples where research teams have used the images seen by duelists in their clairvoyant states to further their research, resulting in the creation of new forms of duel monsters or the development of magic traps associated with the scenes and objects witnessed."
You Xuan seemed to understand.
In other words, it was like finding inspiration for card designs, right? Deciding how to print many cards, what new forms monsters would evolve into, and what types of support cards would be needed.
Perhaps if there was a reference to guide the direction of research, it could greatly accelerate the research progress.
With this realization, You Xuan had a bold idea.
He had obviously not experienced any clairvoyance earlier, but if all the research team wanted was some guidance on card designs...
"Oh, now that you mention it, I think I did see something," You Xuan said, furrowing his brows as if trying to recall.
The entire research group was elated. This was the first time someone had resonated with the Chaos Warrior-related ruins, and if they could gain clues from the clairvoyant vision, they might be able to break through the research bottleneck they had been stuck in for years! The leader hurriedly gestured to the excited members behind him to calm down, then held his breath and asked carefully, "So, what did you see?
It doesn't matter if it's a bit vague; clairvoyant visions are usually fragmented. Even the tiniest detail could be important."
"Oh, I remember," You Xuan said. "I saw two warriors, similar to the Chaos Warrior but in their younger forms, looking very youthful. Based on the sword auras they emitted when they swung their blades, one should be light-attributed, and the other dark."
The experts: "!"
They actually had a lead!
The researchers were thrilled and quickly controlled their shaking hands to take frantic notes.
"The two young warriors stepped onto an altar, with burning braziers on either side and crossed swords behind them. They disappeared into the altar, one becoming light and the other dark, merging together to transform into the form of the Chaos Warrior."
As the experts took notes, they whispered among themselves.
"What does this mean? It sounds like a 'Chaos Ritual.'"
"Does it refer to ritual sacrifices?"
The leader was struck by a sudden thought as if he had been thunderstruck.
They had always been researching the possibility of a stronger form beyond the "Messenger of Creation," but based on this clairvoyant clue, had they been on the wrong path all along?
Perhaps the key to evolution lay in the choice of sacrificial offerings in the ritual summons?
"Oh, and I saw another scene," You Xuan added.
Experts: "!?
What?!
It was already extremely rare to experience clairvoyance once. How could this person have two such visions in quick succession?
The experts: "???
There's more?
However, they soon realized that they had been too naive.
There were even more than three. You Xuan went on to describe several other scenarios in one breath, such as an ancient ritual site and a Gaia Knight riding into battle, transforming into a Chaos Warrior...
In no time at all, the expert group was astounded.
Not only had so many clairvoyant visions appeared one after another, but the details he provided for each vision were incredibly precise—something they had never heard of before!
The team leader even suspected that he might be making it all up to joke around with them. However, the fact that he had resonated with the ruins and gained the acknowledgment of the Chaos Warrior spirit was undeniable.
So, just how terrifying was this boy's "spirit affinity"?
Of course, they didn't realize that You Xuan hadn't experienced any clairvoyance at all and that he simply knew about the future enhancements to the Chaos Warrior deck as a former Duelist from the real card environment.
The research group was already impressed by the accuracy of his descriptions, but You Xuan wished he could provide even more details.
He could even list out the approximate attack and defense stats and effects of each monster, if he wanted to.
You Xuan had previously self-studied some basic card creation principles, so he understood that in this world, the attack and defense stats and effects of a monster card weren't arbitrarily assigned. Instead, they were determined by the type of monster and the extent of its abilities, which were then translated into effect text following the rules of Dueling.
When a card creator wrote effect text, they weren't manually granting the card its abilities; they were describing the monster's inherent powers in a format that any Duelist could understand.
Therefore, even if You Xuan recited the effect text and stats of a card, it wouldn't be of much help in card creation. The effects had to match the monster's abilities, not just be randomly assigned to make it overpowered.
The first cards You Xuan described were the future Chaos Warrior deck's "Knights of Creation" and "Knights of Twilight," along with the ritual spell, "Super Warrior's Bud."
"Knights of Creation" and "Knights of Twilight" were both four-star, low-level Warrior-type monsters used as ritual materials. When used as ritual sacrifices to summon the Chaos Warrior, it would gain powerful effects, such as removing an opponent's monster from play, discarding one of the opponent's hand cards for a turn, and allowing multiple attacks in a single turn.
"Super Warrior's Bud" was the most potent ritual spell card in the Chaos Warrior system, allowing players to use hand cards and monsters from their deck as ritual materials to perform a Chaos Warrior ritual summon.
In addition, he also briefly described some of the supplementary cards based on his impressions.
These cards would be released many years later, but by then, the meta had become too brutal, and the Chaos Warrior deck was no longer able to keep up with the times. However, if they could be enhanced with the help of Kaiba Corporation's research team in the current environment, they might still be quite formidable.
Of course, You Xuan was just testing the waters. He currently had no direct evidence that the future cards he knew could be replicated in this world, so he was taking advantage of this opportunity to work with Kaiba's top-notch research team.
The team leader exchanged contact information with You Xuan and repeatedly emphasized that he should reach out if he remembered anything else. Likewise, the research group promised to notify him immediately if they made any progress.
If this experiment succeeded, it would be of tremendous significance to You Xuan.
It wouldn't just lead to enhancements for his Chaos deck, but it would also validate his memories of future cards and his past life as a Duelist, potentially unlocking a vast treasure trove of knowledge!
"Overtime! Everyone, let's put in some overtime!"
The team leader, with dark circles under his eyes, shouted excitedly, as if he could already see the light at the end of the tunnel.
The Chaos Warrior spirit floated quietly behind You Xuan, listening to his lengthy and elaborate description. A question mark appeared on its forehead as it wondered, "Did my master really see all these clairvoyant visions? Why didn't I know about any of them? Am I a fake spirit?"
