Chapter 618: The Future's Trust
Chapter 618: The Future's Trust
"Vivian, the personnel stationed at the Hive will be changing shifts tomorrow morning. We'll be heading back to the Banyan Forest, so you should pack up tonight."
Lord Lindsey called for Vivian, sharing his plans.
Aside from occasional diplomatic missions, Vivian had been staying at the camp, constantly by Lord Lindsey's side.
The young lady had grown accustomed to this method of grooming her as a successor.
Upon hearing the plan, she maintained her composure and asked,
"This return trip is a few days earlier than the last one. Is it because of Mr. Dune or is there an urgent matter in the territory?"
"It's because the Banyan Forest is preparing for another sports event in a little over a month, and we need to be there early to make arrangements. Also, several Wildlands factions have chosen to join us, and it's not appropriate to hold their acceptance ceremony here at the Hive."
"And there's also the matter you mentioned about Dune."
At this point, Lord Lindsey's tone paused.
Standing on the luminescent fungal mat, his face was eerily illuminated by the green glow:
"Vivian, do you still remember the purpose I mentioned at the beginning of our journey in this world?"
Vivian, her face also tinged green, nodded immediately:
"Of course I remember!"
"You seek items with immense vitality to repair the broken connections of the world!"
Lord Lindsey continued his explanation:
"According to Dune, the land of the Green Swamp maintains considerable activity, and there's no interference from Awakened individuals using their techniques. I'm inclined to believe that such a treasure exists there."
Hearing about the Green Swamp, Vivian's emotions, suppressed since yesterday, finally surfaced.
She clenched her fists and slightly lifted her head.
Like a true child, she asked Lord Lindsey:
"So... is there any news about my father?"
"And Brother Bull, Sister Fanny, they were all captured by the people of the Green Swamp..."
Vivian's eyes flickered.
Lord Lindsey patted her head, soothing her before continuing:
"Here's some good news."
"The Green Swamp regards Awakened individuals as extremely valuable labor, treating them like slaves but keeping them alive. In the future, when we defeat the Green Swamp, we can liberate your father and those friends together!"
"..."
Vivian was clearly excited.
But after receiving the answer, this child quickly suppressed her emotions and shifted to the mindset of a faction successor:
"What about other news regarding the Green Swamp?"
"With the current development of our territory, we might not be a match for them in a head-on confrontation."
Vivian spoke the truth.
While the Forest Capital and Insect Nest were thriving, the Green Swamp had the strength accumulated over many years, and the world's strongest Awakened individual resided there.
It wasn't yet time for a direct confrontation.
Lord Lindsey spoke,
"The other side is doing well, but news takes time to spread."
"The Green Swamp has only received news about the previous situation in the Banyan Forest. Even if we factor in the time it took for Dune to return, they probably just found out about our delegation's mission."
Vivian naturally understood,
"So that means we have at most half a year before new expeditions will be arranged."
Lord Lindsey shook his head again:
"No, we have more time than half a year."
"According to the news Dune gathered, the true ruler of the Green Swamp hasn't appeared in a long time. His high-rank Awakened subordinates dare not disturb that infamous Snake King. They're currently divided, each ruling their own territory and managing according to the laws he enacted.
"For a new faction like us," Lin Sai said, a rare smile creeping onto his lips, "it'll take them at least a year or two to go through all the procedures before they actually send their troops to fight us!"
"By then..."
Lin Sai glanced at the surrounding luminescent fungal mat, a cold smile on his face.
One year! By then, the insectoid population would reach 3,000, completing the upgrade to a Tier 3 civilization.
With the power of a true war machine like the insectoids...
In the Wildlands, where top-tier forces were scarce, it was likely that the scenario of 'how the Dragon Face Assault lost' would come true.
Vivian now deeply understood the strength and fearsome nature of Lin Sai's abilities.
As long as there was enough time...
The young girl was not surprised by the outcome of the war.
So she returned to the original topic, focusing on Lin Sai's personal future:
"Mr. Lindsey, after you repair the world connection, will you immediately head to the Dust Path World?"
Lin Sai nodded in affirmation:
"To be precise, it's the City of Law, and the Dust Path World is just one of the places I must pass through."
Vivian could sense the determination in Lin Sai's tone—a resolute intention to leave!
The girl immediately became flustered:
"But, Mr. Lindsey, you..."
Lin Sai forcefully interrupted Vivian's hesitation:
"Vivian, the Wildlands used to be called the Mooncry Mountain Range World, and it once had a prosperous civilization and happy inhabitants. But due to war, this beautiful world has fallen to its current state."
As he spoke, Lin Sai took a step forward.
He stepped on the fungal mat, bringing Vivian back to the surface and out of the insectoid hive.
Finally, standing at the entrance to the canyon, he pointed to the distant east:
"Look over there."
"That's the true core of the war, the place where all the tragedies originated."
"To prevent another tragedy like the Mooncry Mountain Range World, we must go straight to the source and deal with the matters there!"
Vivian tried to persuade him to stay:
"But, but if that's the case, you should stay here and manage the territory with us. Your abilities are so powerful that with gradual development, we can work together..."
Lin Sai shook his head again.
"Vivian, you're wrong."
"A truly high-ranked Awakener and these ordinary soldiers are not even in the same category. Just like how the insectoid army is currently winning battle after battle, but if a Deviator with a six or seven-rank Awakener appears, all advantages will be wiped out."
"At that time, there's no other way but for me to take the risk."
Here, Lin Sai paused slightly.
He couldn't possibly say that developing the territory was just out of pity or some nonsense about helping him find a gathering of vitality.
So Lin Sai spoke of the world's cruel nature:
"Although I don't want to admit to some so-called heroism, in a world like this, when an individual's abilities reach a certain level, it will inevitably influence everything."
Lin Sai turned to look at Vivian.
At this moment, the setting sun cast a dim light upon him and the canyon.
Lin Sai's tone was solemn, and for the first time, he directly entrusted the girl before him:
"Vivian, I can't take the territory with me."
"It must be managed and developed by someone reliable and trustworthy."
"Although Hammer and the others are my capable assistants, because they are from the Wildlands, their personal beliefs are objectively bound by their age. Someone like Lane has no cognitive issues, but he's too old."
"So, no matter when or where, only a young person like you represents the future."
