Chapter 618: Leap with Abandon, Old Li!
Chapter 618: Leap with Abandon, Old Li!
"Wait, this isn't the right way. Weren't we supposed to go to Happy Neighborhood?" Old Li had seen the address in the documents and heard Qin Muye mention it, but the female corpse in front of them was clearly not heading towards Happy Neighborhood.
"Maybe she's going to the crime scene." Qin Muye didn't know the way to Happy Neighborhood, but he knew the location of the crime scene.
"But that doesn't make sense. If her so-called 'home' is the crime scene, then I was wrong earlier. This thing should have attacked and killed us, why would it let us go?"
Qin Muye was also puzzled.
Old Li, hearing this, was equally baffled, thinking, "So you are human after all."
If she wasn't human, she definitely wouldn't have said that. As for why she was so peculiar, Old Li attributed it to Qin Muye's unusual way of thinking.
"So what should we do next? Should we go back?" Old Li seized the opportunity to make a run for it.
The pressure in this situation was significant.
"Not a good idea. I suspect this entity might be targeting you. If you say you want to go back, something might happen." Qin Muye guessed that the entity was looking for a scapegoat.
Who was the most unfortunate person here? It had to be Old Li. Qin Muye was just an avatar, roughly equivalent to a stone post by the roadside. Most anomalous entities targeted humans, so it had to be Old Li.
Following might be safer; if they didn't, they might be captured on the spot.
As for what the entity would do with them, Qin Muye had some ideas. It would probably make them jump from the building. What else could it do?
Qin Muye followed the entity, hoping to catch another wave of unknown AOE. They were still in the midst of the plot event, so it counted.
A wave of unknown AOE equaled a decrease in presence. He had already experienced it once and wanted to try again. Having Old Li around would be useful as a target.
Sure enough, they arrived at the crime scene. The area had been cleaned up, the bloodstains removed, and the police tape taken down.
Many people had witnessed the cause of death, ruling out the possibility of murder. Both people involved in the argument had died, so no one was pursuing the matter further.
The woman reached the rooftop in a very bizarre manner. Qin Muye and Old Li followed.
"Damn, how did Old Li get up there?" As soon as the scooter stopped, Old Li had already made it to the top. Qin Muye didn't even react in time.
Looking up, he saw Old Li shouting at the woman, as if reenacting the disaster of the day.
Whoosh!
"How are you guys so fast? This morning, the argument lasted for five minutes!"
"Kinetic deceleration, levitation."
Bang!
Qin Muye watched as two shadows fell, quickly speaking up.
This time, it was better. Only one shadow hit the ground, while Old Li floated down gently.
He regained his senses, and the female corpse, now a puddle of sludge, was staring at Qin Muye and Old Li, as if questioning why.
Old Li felt terrible. He had inexplicably appeared on the rooftop and then jumped down. Fortunately, this seemingly normal but utterly abnormal young man caught him; otherwise, he would have ended up like the female corpse.
"Hey, don't stare at me. Each crime has its perpetrator. The one who didn't die with you is Old Li, not me." Qin Muye distanced himself from the situation.
Old Li was completely bewildered. How did he get involved?
Watching the female corpse slowly melt, Old Li's hair stood on end.
Soon, the female corpse melted into a liquid-like substance, then writhed and reshaped, finally reforming into a human.
"Excuse me, do you know where my home is?" the female corpse asked again.
Qin Muye thought for a moment and said, "It's here."
"Thank you."
After her response, Old Li was once again dragged to the rooftop for another argument.
"Sure enough, I'm being treated like a stone post by the roadside." Qin Muye caught Old Li again as he fell from the sky.
This time, the commotion was significant, waking up many residents of the apartment building.
"Old Li, do you have some connection with her? Why did she answer me and grab you?" Qin Muye teased.
Old Li couldn't care less about that right now. This was too intense for him.
The female corpse was also resetting, looking a bit out of control.
If before it was just the initial stage of an Alpha-level anomaly, now it was almost reaching the middle stage.
As many heads popped out to look, a terrifying effect was formed.
In the next moment, a large number of men, including Old Li, all followed up to the rooftop.
"Alright, it has evolved into a group effect. Any man around has to follow to the rooftop."
This time, the argument was skipped, and a large crowd of people jumped down from the rooftop.
"Targeting us just twice, and it has developed into this process. No wonder the Global Guardians Organization focuses on containment rather than elimination when dealing with anomalies."
Qin Muye knew it was definitely unkillable. He had tried to erase it but failed.
"It has now evolved from a single individual to all males within a range, which is currently limited to this apartment building."
"If I were to intervene again, the situation might become even more severe."
He understood that if he were to act again, it could turn into a city-wide event. This was already an Alpha-level anomaly, and further loss of control could push it toward an Omega-level anomaly.
This was not impossible, as Qin Muye had already deduced the model of this anomaly.
"The special task force of the Global Guardians Organization has arrived?" Qin Muye sensed a group of people coming.
"It seems there is indeed a way to monitor the birth of anomalies; otherwise, they wouldn't have arrived so quickly."
Qin Muye gradually faded into the shadows. Each special task force member fired something similar to spider silk, sticking all the falling individuals to the walls.
Then, they began to contain the female corpse.
"Truly efficient."
The outcome was clear. The female corpse was indeed extraordinary, but it was no match for the Global Guardians Organization.
"Is there someone directing and monitoring?" Qin Muye glanced at the surveillance and then looked up at the sky, where numerous satellites were floating, one of which was watching the event.
"High efficiency, and they have already figured out some of its characteristics even before arriving. Does that mean I might also be exposed?" Qin Muye was a bit puzzled.
Only Old Li knew about him, but the information Qin Muye had given Old Li was false. As long as he changed his appearance and aura, the Global Guardians Organization would most likely not find him, unless they used the World Crystal, an Omega-level anomaly, or something similar.
Feeling the end of the plot event, Qin Muye quietly left the area around the apartment building.
Containment was, of course, swift. Otherwise, dragging it out for a few days would make the situation cold. Unless it was a non-corporeal or causality-related anomaly, which might require more time for investigation, this female corpse anomaly was standing right under surveillance. Dragging it out for a few days would be inappropriate.
"Still, what is the principle behind this? How can a corpse gain such special abilities?"
Qin Muye had been observing the female corpse all night, from being taken to the morgue for stitching, to reanimating and mutating. The entire process was smooth, as if nothing had happened.
There were no signs at all.
There might have been some, but he didn't notice them.
"I need to modify this avatar more when I return. Three abilities for survival are fine, but it's not good for investigation."
Qin Muye quickly gave up. Without any leads, what else could he do? He wasn't the main body, so he couldn't act forcefully. It was better to just blend in and wait.
"Find a place to rest, and we'll see tomorrow. I've been squatting in the morgue for most of the night." Qin Muye casually found a hotel to sleep in.
The possibility of getting involved in another plot event was low, as anomalies couldn't occur so frequently. If they did, the world would have exploded long ago.
Most of these were low-probability events. Unless he had a protagonist's status, he wouldn't encounter such events too frequently.
Currently, he was just an extra, so he didn't have to worry about encountering someone who wanted to fight every few steps.
The surroundings were quiet, clearly sealed off by the Global Guardians Organization. After all, they needed to contain the anomaly and avoid causing significant negative impacts. Sealing off the area was necessary.
And the subsequent cleanup might involve modifying some people's memories to prevent the anomaly event from causing social unrest. Stability was crucial.
