Chapter 618: Lanchi's Love Life in the Sky
Chapter 618: Lanchi's Love Life in the Sky
In the afternoon, within the iconic buildings of the Ikerite Academy, located on the outskirts of the Magic Engineering Institute, lies the old liberal arts building of the Magic Engineering Institute.
This classical structure, with its red brick walls and intricate reliefs, once served as the school where magic engineers a century ago let their imaginations run wild. After being renovated decades later, it became a public building where the Magic Engineering Institute offered its services to students from other faculties.
The first floor housed the Public Magic Engineering Service Center.
The second floor belonged to Professor Borao, the leader in magic engineering research, and his workshop for innovative magic engineering techniques.
The third floor was occupied by the Student Management Committee.
During previous semesters, Lanchi would often be found on the third floor in the student council room.
However, starting now, he would be spending his days working and studying on the second floor.
On the second floor, within Professor Borao's research workshop, one could often hear the soft whirring of machinery and the focused work of magic engineering puppets in the laboratory.
Of course, Professor Borao now had two additional students under his wing.
"Professor Borao, have you finished helping Dean Lorren with his task?" Lanchi asked as he walked up to a wide experimental bench and placed a semi-transparent blue blueprint on the identification instrument on the professor's desk.
Just standing in front of the experimental bench filled one's senses with a unique blend of magical potions and machine oil. Mechanical arms, powered by magic stones, were precisely assembling a seemingly complex device, while a black crystal screen displayed rows of intricate calculations and the recently inputted blueprint.
Although Lanchi's talent in magic engineering paled in comparison to that of Lanfu and Professor Borao, the professor had discovered that he had a knack for drawing design blueprints.
And so, the tasks for his two disciples were clearly divided.
"It's all taken care of. It's no longer my concern from here on out," Professor Borao shook his head as he spoke.
This was his way of absolving himself of any responsibility.
After he finished speaking, he once again turned his attention to examining the small, intricate parts placed beside the blueprint, using his magic engineering glasses.
Following Lanchi's idea, Professor Borao had provided Lorren with a so-called "Love Instructor" invisible magic earpiece, claiming it to be a newly developed intelligent love guide from the Magic Engineering Institute.
It was supposed to offer Lorren advice and suggestions whenever he felt lost or confused about love.
And during crucial moments, it wouldn't just help him plan dates in advance, but also guide him through any situation he might encounter during those dates.
Lorren felt like he had found a lifeline.
His date with Julianna was just two days away, and he didn't have much time left to cram. Fortunately, the ever-capable Professor Borao had provided him with this new device.
But in reality...
The "Love Instructor" was also magically connected to Lanchi.
When the day of the date arrived, Lanchi would provide real-time guidance to Lorren, coaching him through his date with the Undying Sword Saint, Julianna.
"Rest assured, Professor Borao, this plan is foolproof. I guarantee there will be no issues," Lanchi said confidently.
"..."
Professor Borao nodded, seeing the sense of responsibility in Lanchi's eyes.
After all, it was just one date. What could possibly go wrong?
"Then, Professor Borao, I'll take my leave for today," Lanchi said, glancing at the time.
There weren't any strict working hours in their laboratory, and they were free to leave as long as they completed their tasks for the day.
"See you tomorrow, Lanchi," Professor Borao replied, knowing that Lanchi wanted to visit the student council. After all, he had often run into Lanchi on the stairs as he came down from the third-floor student council room last year.
Before Lanchi could even turn to gather his tools from his workstation, he saw the Great Lover Poet approaching him.
"Professor Borao, is that so?"
Lanfu, dressed in the first-year school uniform, walked over to the pair with a magic engineering component in her arms and asked Professor Borao.
Professor Borao took the component, examined it with his magic engineering glasses, and nodded, proceeding to instruct the Great Lover Poet on her next steps.
Lanchi wasn't in a hurry and listened from the side.
After all, there was no harm in learning a little more.
Ever since the Great Lover Poet had arrived at the Magic Engineering Lab, she had become eager for knowledge. Without Lanchi's supervision, she seemed to have endless energy as she worked tirelessly in the lab, even outdoing Lanchi in diligence. Of course, her actions consumed Lanchi's magic power.
There was no need for Lanchi to supervise the Great Lover Poet, as she seemed to attend classes punctually every day and showed no signs of skipping classes. Like Hepberlin, she was a hardworking and disciplined type of student.
Finally, when the Great Lover Poet finished her work and walked back to her station with a new set of blueprints, Lanchi also headed in the same direction, out of the laboratory.
"Don't fold your skirt like that. It should reach your knees, as stated in the student handbook's dress code guidelines."
Lanchi reminded her after giving it some thought.
The skirt of the school uniform he had chosen for the Great Lover Poet was supposed to reach her knees, but she had taken it upon herself to shorten the skirt, exposing her thighs.
"Rui!"
The Great Lover Poet stuck her tongue out at Lanchi, lifted her eyelids at him, and then ignored him as she ran towards the experimental bench.
"Oh well."
Lanchi knew that the Great Lover Poet wouldn't listen to him when it came to minor matters like this.
While it wasn't a mandatory rule, the school did encourage students to dress more appropriately and adhere to the dress code guidelines.
Lanchi also worried that Talia would see the Great Lover Poet's outfit and think that he had intentionally designed the skirt to be short because he enjoyed looking at her thighs.
However, even if she were to find out, it wouldn't be a big deal since Talia wasn't the one wearing it.
Lanchi thought to himself as he tidied up his workstation, pushed his chair back under the table, and left the laboratory alone, stepping out into the corridor.
As the last rays of sunset faded over the academy, his footsteps echoed in the quiet air. He climbed the winding staircase to the third floor and found himself in the familiar corridor, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun.
Before him stretched a wide passageway, its walls a deep red, illuminated by the day's final glow. Delicate chandeliers hung from the high ceiling, casting a gentle light over every inch of space, while the reddish-brown walls were adorned with gold-trimmed carvings.
"Once I finish all my civil commissions, I should be able to lead a mundane life like this every day," Lanchi mused as he walked down the corridor towards the student council room, taking in the view of the campus outside, its landscapes painted in hues of red by the sunset.
Unbeknownst to him, three out of the four shadow worlds of the Blood Moon Calamity had already passed. Among his remaining tasks were only the civil commissions and the academic project involving the Krexe Empire.
Retirement was drawing nearer.
With these thoughts in mind, Lanchi arrived at the double doors, painted a deep crimson.
It had been over a year since Lanchi last saw Senior Luweishi in the student council room.
Hepberlin probably returned to school around noon, but she might have already left by now, as it was close to the end of the school day.
The once bustling student council room was now likely occupied solely by the president, sitting alone in his office chair.
Lanchi knocked on the door in the fading light of the evening. His knock echoed softly within the quiet room.
"Come in."
A gentle and steady male voice, as familiar as ever, invited him in.
Indeed, the president was there, as always.
