Chapter 618: Are the Four Emperors Really That Powerless?
Chapter 618: Are the Four Emperors Really That Powerless?
Kuro was certain that even Li Pa and his group had their negative emotions absorbed. Or rather, only pure "goodness" remained – the kind of virtue akin to a monk's character.
But he couldn’t understand – what purpose did this person serve in dealing with the local residents here? Li Pa must have stumbled upon it by accident, getting the ability implanted in him. What was the point of this? An experiment? What was there to test with this ability?
It seemed to strip people of their combat capability. These "purely good" beings couldn’t feel anger, take lives, or even plunder life energy without feeling it was a sin.
Sounds useful, but for someone who wields Haki, this ability is just a burden. Take that guy Law and his Surgery Fruit – as miraculous as it is, it can’t affect someone with strong Haki. Unless this person themselves reached that level.
All Devil Fruits are like this. Haki isn’t just a metaphorical invisible armor – any ability, if the user lacks sufficient strength, can’t break through when facing Haki protection.
If Devil Fruit power was sufficient, there’d be no need for such trouble.
Was this person’s ability area-based or touch-based? Paramecia? Or an animal-type Mythical Zoan? That remained to be seen.
But one thing was certain – this person wasn’t in East Blue anymore.
Kuro spent some more time in East Blue but, finding no useful intelligence, departed with his crew. This person’s ability hadn’t taken lives yet, and Kuro had no time to chase a currently non-threatening individual across such a vast world. The guy didn’t even have a face or a Wanted Poster – where was he supposed to look?
Headquarters had started urging him. He’d already lingered in East Blue long enough.
Before leaving East Blue, he still made a detour to Baratie, booking the entire place so his subordinates could taste its delicacies. This kept Baratie in a frenzy – with thousands of his crew here, including a big eater whose combat prowess was anything but weak.
After finishing their meal, Kuro entered the Grand Line through the Calm Belt, sailing toward the Red Line. Once past it, he lifted his ship into the sky, entering the New World. After several days’ voyage, he arrived at Headquarters.
…
“Oh~ Kuro, back already? Word is, your flying Golden Ship has become a legend on the Grand Line.”
Lucius Kro chuckled inside the office.
“You’re one to talk? What did you even contribute here?”
Kuro rolled his eyes, poured himself tea, and casually poured another cup for Lucius Kro. “How much did you pay Vegapunk to help you? I’ll double it – have him revert my ship to normal.”
“Not a chance~ This is actually an experiment. Your ship is perfect for testing on the Grand Line. Besides, Vegapunk’s busy now – he’s leading the Special Science Division ‘Ssg.’ They’ve completed development and are entering the experimental phase.”
“Ssg?” Kuro paused, then fell silent.
He knew about this – the World Government’s new trump card, meant to fear no pirates. But Kuro thought it was all nonsense. The true strongmen of the Grand Line were beyond what science could surpass.
Yi Xiao seemed to pin all hopes on this, aiming to abolish the Seven Warlords of the Sea system at the World Meeting. But the old-school Navy, including Kuro, opposed this. Fleet Admiral Sakazuki was especially against it.
“I don’t care about that, but there’s one thing – keep an eye on the Sixth Level. Any oversights?”
He shared his East Blue findings with Gramps.
“Pure goodness… Sounds similar to He Popo’s Washing Washing Devil Fruit.”
Lucius Kro mused, “Though the escapees from the Sixth Level didn’t have this ability.”
“Oh?” Kuro narrowed his eyes. “No escapees have it, so this must’ve been acquired in the past two years? Maybe obtained in East Blue, tested there first. So now the person might’ve entered the Grand Line or even the New World. Whatever – not my problem.”
He stood, “Then Gramps, I’ll take my leave.”
“Mind yourself on your new post, Kuro. G-3 is the frontline.” Lucius Kro warned.
“Of course I know.”
G-3 wasn’t just the frontline – it was the frontline’s frontline.
The New World’s influence map was complex, but roughly divided. Among the Four Emperors, Charlotte (Big Mom) faced the Navy’s influence most directly.
According to the map, Kaido was behind Big Mom’s left flank. To Kaido’s right lay the former Whitebeard territory, now Blackbeard’s domain. The remaining corner belonged to Shanks.
But these influences weren’t complete puzzles. Their territories were dotted with countless other pirate influences – the many strongmen carving their own paths in the New World. Though not Four Emperors’ equals, they weren’t to be underestimated.
After all, no one knew when they might overthrow the Four Emperors and become the new ones. Under the Four Emperors’ shadows lurked many ambitious strongmen – some barely weaker than the Emperors themselves.
Compared to them, the [Worst Generation] was truly insignificant.
“Captain Kuro! Big news!”
As Kuro exited Headquarters and boarded his Golden Lion, Klah rushed over with newspapers. “Donquixote Doflamingo has resigned from the Seven Warlords of the Sea!”
“Huh?”
Kuro paused, took the paper, and muttered, “He’d resign from the Seven Warlords? What joke is this? This guy’s shrewder than anyone – the Seven Warlords title is his insurance. Dropping it would be reckless. The World Government wouldn’t allow it.”
He skimmed the paper.
There it was – Donquixote Doflamingo’s resignation from the Seven Warlords. The paper featured a photo of his annoying face.
Besides this, two other major headlines:
“Luffy and Law form alliance? Target: Kaido? Eustass Kid, Hawkins, and Scratchmen Apoo also ally? Target: Big Mom?”
“This Luffy’s still bouncing around? I thought he’d need time to recover. I cut him myself – that blow wasn’t light.”
“Law? Did he meet him? That’s how he survived.”
Kuro tossed the paper, smirking contemptuously. “But do they really think they can challenge the Four Emperors? Are the Four Emperors really that powerless? Where’s the cowardice in them? If they succeed, what does that make us Navy? A joke?”
The Navy had been locked in stalemate with the Four Emperors for years, unable to overcome them. Even defeating the aged Whitebeard required the full force of the Navy – and they still didn’t kill him.
Now these rookies think they can topple the Four Emperors?
If the Four Emperors were that weak, the Navy would’ve acted already.
