Chapter 615: The Target
Chapter 615: The Target
Despite his expressionless face, it was uncanny how both Chen Chuan and Instructor Wen could discern the meaning of "Don't listen to his nonsense" from Mr. Zuan's unchanging demeanor.
A momentary silence filled the living room.
Mr. Wen smiled and said, "Mr. Zuan, please have some tea."
Mr. Zuan immediately picked up the teacup in front of him, his gaze fixed on the interior of the cup, avoiding eye contact with anyone else.
Chen Chuan thought for a moment, folded the wanted notice neatly, and stood up from his seat. "I understand the assessment mission, and it's getting late. I should take my leave. Mr. Zuan, where can I find you after the assessment is completed?"
Mr. Zuan lifted the teacup as if to drink, but it shielded half of his face. He hesitated for a moment and said uncertainly, "The hotel?"
Instructor Wen smiled and said to Chen Chuan, "Supervisor Chen, Mr. Zuan has traveled a long way to get here, and he's not familiar with Yangzhi yet. I'll arrange accommodations for him first. After the matter is concluded, you can inform me, and I'll pass the message on to Mr. Zuan." He then turned to Mr. Zuan, "Mr. Zuan, how does that sound?"
Mr. Zuan nodded repeatedly.
"Very well, gentlemen. In that case, I'll take my leave," Chen Chuan said. After bidding farewell to the two men, he exited Mr. Wen's residence.
Once outside, he took out the wanted notice and examined it again. Then, with determined strides, he headed forward.
Instead of going home, he made his way directly outside the residential area.
Although this was nominally an assessment, in reality, he had received valuable intelligence. A dangerous individual like Kenwa couldn't be left unattended.
The scope of Jinbei Province was vast, and finding this person would require the assistance of government agencies.
The Handling Bureau was adept at managing violent affairs, but they lacked expertise in information and intelligence. Locating this individual swiftly was beyond their capabilities, so it was necessary to contact a special department.
In no time, he exited the Patrol Bureau residential area and found a public telephone booth on the roadside. He dialed a number.
Within ten minutes, his private armed convoy turned into the intersection, and the bright headlights illuminated the road with a snowy glow.
The special vehicle came to a stop in front of him, and the attendant promptly opened the door.
Chen Chuan entered the vehicle and sat down. He retrieved his intercom from the in-car storage compartment and put it on. Then, he searched for stored information within the vehicle's realm.
Soon enough, he found a communication frequency.
This frequency was provided by the Handling Bureau, and only a few investigation supervisors, in addition to the director and deputy director, had access to it. The code was changed every month.
Chen Chuan signaled for the assigned telegraph operator to transmit a message using this frequency.
The operator immediately put on the headphones and sent the telegraph.
After about five minutes, the operator said, "Supervisor, they've responded."
"Tell them I've received information that a wanted fugitive has appeared in Jinbei Province, posing a potential threat to the public safety of Central City and its surrounding areas. I suspect this person has arrived with an important mission, so I'm invoking the emergency regulations and requesting their assistance in providing intelligence."
"Yes, sir."
The operator promptly sent the telegraph.
This time, however, they waited for a while, but there was no response from the other end.
But just then, the public telephone booth nearby started ringing, and it didn't stop.
Upon hearing this, Chen Chuan immediately exited the vehicle and walked over to the booth. He picked up the receiver, and a familiar voice came through, 'Supervisor Chen.'
Recognizing the voice, Chen Chuan asked, 'Specialist Cao?'
Specialist Cao confirmed, "Yes, it's me, Supervisor Chen. I've verified the information. This person has indeed arrived in Jinbei Province. My people have been keeping an eye on him. Supervisor Chen, what's the plan now that we've confirmed his whereabouts?"
Without hesitation, Chen Chuan replied, "Execute him on the spot." He heard a brief pause from the other end of the line before Specialist Cao's voice turned grave. "The target is at Farview Port."
Chen Chuan pondered for a moment. Farview Port—an ideal hiding place. From there, he can take a boat directly to Central City, and if confronted, he can retreat out to sea."
Specialist Cao added, "However, I must remind Supervisor Chen that this individual applied for an amnesty order before entering Dashi, and it has been confirmed and approved.
It's now one in the morning, and the amnesty order will likely be delivered by noon tomorrow. Supervisor Chen, you have approximately one day."
Chen Chuan's thoughts shifted, and he said, "Thank you, Specialist Cao."
Specialist Cao's voice grew somber. "This is a cunning and arrogant opponent. Our ability to track his movements this time is not due to the efforts of our personnel but rather his own voluntary exposure. He's likely emboldened by the imminent arrival of the amnesty order, seeking the thrill of the chase, and possibly possessing additional advantages."
Chen Chuan agreed with this assessment. The wanted notice detailed Kenwa's past offenses, indicating a brazen character. It wasn't unusual for someone like him to act provocatively.
Third-tier fighters often exhibit personality and psychological disorders, and there are more abnormal individuals than normal ones among them.
Despite his recklessness, he also possessed a hint of caution, leaning against the port. Escaping would be relatively easy for an experienced third-tier fighter if proper arrangements were made in advance.
"Specialist Cao, I'll handle it," he said.
Specialist Cao replied, "I'll have my people keep an eye on the target and provide you with updates until the amnesty order arrives. Supervisor Chen, make sure your telegraph operator stays in contact with my people."
Supervisor Chen acknowledged with a 'yes' and then hung up the phone.
He gazed outside, where Farview Port was approximately four hundred kilometers away from Yangzhi City in a straight line. Traveling via the Eastern National Highway in a special vehicle, it would take about half a day to reach the port, not including the time required for the capture. He had to consider that the opponent might not stay in one place for long, so the actual time could be even longer.
Additionally, the port was not deserted. Once they took action, they would need to consider various factors, but most importantly, they had to consider the existence backing Kenwa.
As for the amnesty order, he didn't seem to care about it.
Even if the amnesty order was issued, what difference would it make? As long as he didn't receive it, it was as if it didn't exist, and there was no procedural issue with that.
He tapped the intercom and sent a signal to Chao Ming, who was asleep at home.
This time, he intended to bring Chao Ming along. By using a vehicle-mounted realm organism, he could view the ground situation through the intercom on Chao Ming's head, which would greatly benefit the operation.
After a while, Chao Ming flew out from the residential area and landed in front of him, chirping.
He patted Chao Ming and then turned back to the vehicle with it. "Farview Port," he said.
"Yes!"
The convoy started and left Yangzhi City. Half an hour later, they were on the Eastern National Highway, heading towards Farview Port. By the next day at noon, they were approaching the port.
Yu Xiao and the security team were in good condition, taking turns to rest.
They were all armed personnel with advanced implants from the Linaksa Federation. Even without rest, they could maintain combat readiness for several days and nights through drug injections in emergency situations.
Supervisor Chen opened the car door, and Chao Ming flapped its wings vigorously before flying out of the vehicle and soaring into the sky in an instant. It then flew towards the port ahead.
At the same time, in the container yard of Farview Port, there were over twenty armed militants with guns guarding an area. Beyond them was the dock loading area, and further out, the sea was clearly visible through the gaps in the containers.
Kenwa was sitting in the middle of an open space, gnawing on a half-cooked lamb leg.
His muscles were solid and robust, especially his thick arms. He had prominent cheekbones, making his face appear broader, but his lips were full, and his nose was large and straight—typical features of the Primordial Clan. His skin was rough, and his dark, hard hair was tied back. He had oil paint on his face, giving him a wild and rugged appearance.
He wore a set of combat clothing, and around his body were thin, tendon-like objects that seemed to wriggle slightly.
These were external implants, a technology from the Linaksa Federation. They could attach to a fighter's body and, during combat, partially replace the function of transformed organisms, providing the user with smoother force exertion and greater strength.
The lamb leg was torn apart by his hard teeth, pulling off a piece of bloody muscle. He chewed it into a pulp in just a few bites and then swallowed it.
Usually, fighters only needed nutrient paste, but occasionally, they would indulge in delicacies. He particularly enjoyed bloody food, but he couldn't remember when he developed this preference. Perhaps it was after coming into contact with that thing? However, he didn't care about it at all, as long as it gave him strength. He didn't mind these changes.
At that moment, he suddenly paused, his gaze moving upwards to the sky, where he spotted a black dot—a bird, perhaps?"
As a fighter, he could clearly see the bird's magnificent feathers. He had never seen such a bird before. Was it a unique species from Great Prosperity, or...?"
Regardless, he had an inexplicable dislike for it and quickly finished the lamb leg, throwing the remaining bone onto the ground. He waved to a gunman in the distance and made a gesture of raising a gun. The gunman immediately took off the long gun from his back and handed it over.
He caught the gun, checked it, disengaged the safety, and aimed at the sky, his finger on the trigger.
After aiming for a while, he pulled the trigger.
