Chapter 615: Lanchi's Primal Slate Windfall
Chapter 615: Lanchi's Primal Slate Windfall
Just a few steps away, Lanchi found dormitory number 101 in the corridor outside the hall, bathed in the glow of the setting sun.
As the key turned in the lock, a clear sound signaled the opening of the heavy door and the barrier beyond, revealing the familiar sight of the entryway.
"Meow, after being away for a half-month, is your place still this clean?"
Cat Boss expressed his surprise as he looked around.
The dying rays of the sun filtered through the curtain gaps, casting a warm glow on the various brown wooden furnishings, lending a soft and cozy ambiance to the room.
"You can request dormitory maintenance from the Student Services Center. It's common for students to be away for a month or more when they venture into higher-tier shadow worlds, so the school has staff who come by regularly to tidy up the rooms," Lanchi explained as he hung his coat on the hat rack in the entryway and made his way down the corridor back to the spacious living room.
"Most upperclassmen request this before they head off to the shadow worlds, it's pretty much like staying in a hotel suite," he added.
Turning on the lights and drawing the curtains, he took in the warm hues of the throw pillows and blankets adorning the sofa, alongside a vintage floor lamp standing quietly in the corner.
Soon, Lanchi had Cat Boss cast the Sound-Sealing Barrier and activated all the magic devices that shielded the workshop from scrying.
"Meow, could it be…?" Cat Boss looked up from the floor, his eyes fixed on Lanchi.
In the secluded dimness of the room, Lanchi slowly pulled out a finely crafted, compact stone tablet from his pocket.
Its surface was etched with intricate ancient runes that seemed to forever glow with a divine luster, instantly illuminating the surrounding space and casting crisp, clear projections of the room's details onto the dark walls.
Lanchi stared at the divine artifact in his hands.
[Primal Slate – Seal]
[Category: Equipment Card]
[Grade: Orange Epic]
[Attribute: Seal]
[Tier: 5]
[Passive Effect: The Primal Slate cannot be destroyed. Only mortals of this world can soul-bind to it, and only one can be bound. Grants comprehensive enhancement to all Seal-attribute magic, martial arts, equipment, and summons. The soul-binding is released upon the death of the binder.]
[Note: Destiny is tightly bound, yet the soul can save all.]
Previously, he had only been at Tier 4, unable to bind with a Tier 5 Primal Slate.
There was a corresponding cost to binding with this slate as well. Whenever he used seal-based items or spells, it would trigger the unique effect of the [Primal Slate – Seal], the same effect as the one Aschenzon had displayed. This was the reason why new holders of the Primal Slate often became quickly known to the world.
While he could consider delaying the binding, if he didn't soul-bind and store it within his soul space, he would have to keep it in external storage.
If he left it in Cat Boss's care at the restaurant, it would further limit the freedom of Pranai and the others, who were already tasked with safeguarding his treasures.
With his impending journey to the Kreise Empire, Lanchi had no intention of holding anything back. He was ready to become a Slate holder.
He reached out and touched the magic card as he usually did, establishing a soul connection. In the glow, the slate, which seemed to hold secrets spanning millennia, brilliant and hidden, began to communicate directly with the viewer's soul.
The profound runes etched into the slate had a tangible quality, each mark appearing as if personally carved and sculpted by the gods themselves.
The primal power from the slate intertwined and resonated with the magic power within Lanchi, as if recognizing each other's existence.
Cat Boss gazed at Lanchi's face, illuminated by the light of the slate, as the radiance and magic filled the room, causing Lanchi's clothes and hair to flutter gently.
The radiant light flowed endlessly, reflecting the intertwining traces of time and space, as if, in an instant, it had borne witness to countless histories and accumulated infinite power.
As the contract concluded, the glow gradually faded.
And now, all of it was condensed in Lanchi's hands, awaiting the next miracle.
Lanchi exhaled and put away his [Primal Slate – Seal].
After a quick check, he discovered that [Melodious Notes], [Radiant Virtue], and [Nuclear Fusion Wolf] had all received significant multiplier enhancements.
Suddenly, amidst the lingering fragrance, a figure materialized beside Lanchi, seemingly conjured from the magic itself, like a fairy amidst flowers.
"Why?! Aside from me, all your other epic summons have been strengthened!" The Great Lover Poet stomped her foot in anger.
Connected to Lanchi's soul, she had clearly felt that she, too, had become a controller of the slate the moment he soul-bound with it.
Yet, she hadn't received any enhancement at all!
"Look on the bright side," Lanchi replied. "No matter how much magic power you use, you won't trigger the special effect, so I can summon you whenever I want."
Lanchi shrugged helplessly.
"The Great Lover Poet only knows two spells. One is a Wood-elemental magic that makes flowers bloom rapidly, and the other is her magical singing voice."
The blooming effect was a flashy additional ability of the [Melodious Notes], and the mental-based magical singing voice was akin to her innate Demon race ability.
"Damn it! Ahhh!"
The Great Lover Poet shouted in frustration.
"By the way, starting tomorrow, you don't need to dismiss the summoning during the day at school. Here are your new documents, remember to go to the lab with me on time every day, and don't speak unless necessary. Professor Polao will provide you with a new translation magic device, which will allow you to produce sound through the device with your thoughts."
Lanchi ignored the rage of the incompetent Great Lover Poet. Anyway, this was the first floor, and the walls had good sound insulation. No matter how much she stomped on the floor, she wouldn't disturb the neighbors.
He took a box from the shopping bag on the sofa and handed it to the Great Lover Poet. Inside were her student ID and first-year uniform.
"Hey? Is this okay?"
The Great Lover Poet's attention was instantly drawn to the new clothes.
"As long as you don't violate the school rules."
Lanchi handed her things over to her.
The Great Lover Poet's belongings were increasing, and Lanchi had also cleared out a few cabinets for her in the workshop.
Since the Great Lover Poet often crafted cards in the workshop, it had practically become her private room.
Now that Lanchi had reached the Sixth Tier, maintaining the summoning of the First Tier Great Lover Poet required very little magical power. As long as he didn't send her too far away, didn't let her enter a combat state, and she didn't overuse her magical singing and blooming magic, the magic consumption would only be slightly faster than the natural recovery rate, allowing for long-term summoning.
"Hooray!"
The Great Lover Poet raised her arms and spun around in circles, cheering.
Her previous grievances had vanished into thin air.
"Here, this is for you."
Lanchi tossed the stone tablet to the Great Lover Poet.
She caught the stone tablet with steady hands, her eyes shining as she gazed at it.
Previously, without a soul-binding, she couldn't unseal it much, but now that Lanchi had established a soul-binding, it was as if she had bound herself to it as well, allowing her to manipulate and study the tablet at will.
Without saying anything else to Lanchi, the Great Lover Poet ran into the card crafting workshop and closed the door, beginning her research.
"By the way, about the research report on the [Primal Slate - Seal]..."
Lanchi hadn't finished his sentence.
"I'll help you write it."
A crisp and concise voice came from the card crafting workshop.
Lanchi looked at the workshop door, shook his head, and made a cup of linden tree tea before sitting down on the sofa again.
"Sometimes I feel that the Great Lover Poet is quite useful after all. She's diligent and frugal."
Leaning against the sofa, Lanchi took a sip from his teacup and sighed.
"Meow..."
Cat Boss couldn't understand if Lanchi's words implied something else, but he felt that when Lanchi said this, he might not have been thinking solely about the Great Lover Poet.
Before Lanchi could finish tasting his tea, the workshop door opened, and the Great Lover Poet rushed out again.
"Well, what do you think of my new clothes?"
She had already changed into the first-year uniform.
Her eyes, like sea-blue sapphires, were clear and lively, and her proud expression seemed to be waiting for Lanchi's praise.
The Great Lover Poet's new outfit consisted of a beige-colored jacket with golden Herttonian Kingdom insignia and the emblem of the Magic Crafting Academy. She wore a black shirt with a tie, and the short skirt revealed her pure and snowy white skin.
There were actually many styles of uniforms at the Ikelite Academy, which could be freely matched and tailored for personalization at the Student Services Center, to the extent that there were basically no two identical uniforms among the students. Yet, they all unmistakably bore the mark of the Ikelite Academy and displayed their division and grade through color and ornamentation.
The Great Lover Poet trusted Lanchi's sense of style and design abilities, so she didn't make any requests and left the decision-making entirely to him. She was only concerned with wearing the uniform.
"Pfft..."
Lanchi laughed out loud and quickly covered his mouth.
"Is it that funny?"
The Great Lover Poet looked confused.
She felt that Lanchi wasn't being impolite, at least not in a mocking way, and she sensed it clearly.
"It's nothing, I just got distracted and thought it was Tata wearing the uniform."
Lanchi adjusted his expression and shook his head.
It was a relief that it wasn't Tata.
If Tata had put on this outfit, Lanchi was a little worried that he wouldn't be able to hold back his laughter and would be faced with a deadly threat from her.
