Chapter 614: I, Joker (Part 12)
Chapter 614: I, Joker (Part 12)
"Don't shotgun!" Gordon was the first to raise his hands high. "We don't have any weapons!"
"I know", Feng Bu Jue replied, casually tossing his submachine gun onto an adjacent control panel. "But I do..." Before he finished speaking, he pulled three grenades from his coat pocket. "And plenty to spare."
"You... what are you trying to do?!" Gordon's face turned pale as he stared at the grenades in Feng Bu Jue's hands.
"Hmm... what am I trying to do?" Feng Bu Jue echoed the question, juggling the grenades between his hands like a circus performer.
Ruo Yu sighed deeply beside them but said nothing, letting Feng Bu Jue continue his antics.
"Aha! I've got it!" Feng Bu Jue suddenly caught two grenades in one hand, raising his index finger beside his face in a dramatic "eureka" pose.
As he raised that finger, he hurled the third grenade forward.
"OH God!" Gordon shouted, leaping forward in a diving catch like an outfielder snatching a fly ball.
"Not bad, Commissioner Gordon", Feng Bu Jue chuckled, watching Gordon sprawled on the floor. His tone dripped with irony, especially when pronouncing "Commissioner Gordon."
"You're insane!" Gordon gasped, sweat pouring down his face. "You'll kill yourself too!"
"But here I am, alive and well, aren't I?" Feng Bu Jue shot back.
He tucked the remaining two grenades into his coat and pulled out a pearl-handled handgun.
"Some things in this world are controllable", Feng Bu Jue said, pressing the gun to his jaw. "Others aren't."
Click.
He pulled the trigger without hesitation, Joker's signature grin still plastered on his face.
Everyone in the room flinched slightly except Ruo Yu and Feng Bu Jue himself.
"Hahaha!" Feng Bu Jue crouched down, face-to-face with Gordon. "You were expecting brains to splatter out, weren't you?" He paused. "Right—this is the gun you gave me, loaded with only one bullet."
He shifted the gun's aim to Gordon's forehead. "You think you're in control. You believed I couldn't escape that car..."
"No... please..." Gordon whimpered, utterly unsure what this madman might do next.
"...And even if I did, I'd only have one bullet." Feng Bu Jue laughed. "Under those conditions, a couple of thugs could take me down. That's what you're thinking, isn't it?" He pressed the gun harder against Gordon's temple. "You spout nonsense about everyone getting a chance... pretending the world's equal, like anyone can become Gotham's god..."
Gordon couldn't speak. He trembled like a sieve, drenched in sweat.
"But what's the reality?" Feng Bu Jue continued his twisted monologue. "Everything's controlled by design... This whole show... hahaha... isn't it just too boring?" He cackled again and pulled the trigger.
The gun didn't fire. No bullet came. But Gordon had already fainted from terror.
"Hey, you over there", Feng Bu Jue stood up, holstered the gun, and reclaimed his submachine guns. "Connect me to the citywide broadcast screens." He turned to Ruo Yu. "Sweetie, help me put on the headset?"
Ruo Yu glared at him with icy eyes—a chilling sight behind Harley Quinn's smoky makeup. "Fine... sweetie", she drawled reluctantly, removing the headset from the unconscious Gordon and placing it on Feng Bu Jue's head.
Their lines were spot-on for Joker and Harley Quinn, but the delivery felt oddly... off.
"Can't you understand English?!" Feng Bu Jue snapped after adjusting the headset, noticing the staff member still frozen in fear. "Do it now!"
"Do as he says", Kliberdoctor interjected calmly, still smoking.
The staff member, terrified of The_Bruce's wrath, rushed to connect the room's signal to Gotham's main screens.
"Uh... just stand in front of the main screen", the trembling technician muttered.
"Thanks", Feng Bu Jue replied—and fired a few warning shots beneath the technician's chair. The man leapt up, fell back down, and started shouting incoherently.
Across Gotham, every "legal" screen flickered to life, displaying a man in a purple long suit, pale skin, and a grotesque, grinning face.
Citizens recognized him instantly. Every year, The_Bruce saved Joker for last execution—it was tradition. Joker was unique, his terror and influence unmatched by any antagonist.
"What's going on?!" "Good Lord! He's inside the Batmancastle!" "First Batman's plane was shot down, then the Joker symbol in the sky, now this... what's happening?!"
The populace erupted in chaos. As always, some praised, others criticized; some believed, others doubted; some stood firm, others panicked.
"Many believe this is an equal world", Feng Bu Jue began his broadcast, "where anyone who strives can have everything. But in truth... the world has clear levels. In every era, in every place. Wherever people exist, there's a fixed social structure. Take you lot... pitiful, ignorant, stupid maggots struggling under tyranny at Gotham's ground floor." He grinned. "You can desire anything, but that doesn't mean you'll ever possess it. Know why?"
Feng Bu Jue leaned close to the camera, his grin turning menacing as he revealed the truth buried in everyone's hearts:
"Because Batman..."
