Chapter 614: A Companion by Your Side
Chapter 614: A Companion by Your Side
"Good morning!"
Lee Jordan's tone was sour enough to make one wonder how many lemons he'd swallowed, leaving a bewildered Albert, who had just woken up, scratching his head in confusion. "What's wrong with you?"
"Nothing."
"Ha!"
Yawning, Albert turned inquisitive eyes towards Fred and George.
"This guy is probably green with envy." George draped an arm around Lee Jordan's neck and laughed carelessly. "Yesterday, we overheard the girls chatting."
"What were they talking about?" Albert asked as he donned his robe.
"You haven't forgotten what day it is today, have you?" Fred prompted.
"February 14th, Valentine's Day. What about it?" Albert grew even more perplexed. For him, Valentine's Day was no different from any other holiday.
"The girls were discussing giving you chocolates." Fred said impatiently as Albert pulled on his boots. "Only you wouldn't care about these things."
"If you're jealous, just find yourself a girlfriend!" Albert shrugged. "Otherwise, you'll have to find one sooner or later. It's better to strike first than be struck."
"You always know how to make an indisputable point." Lee Jordan pondered his own little thoughts.
At that moment, Lee Jordan was hesitating about whether he should confess to Angelina early on, but he was very worried that she would reject him.
The group of them went downstairs together, and in the common room, a senior girl whom Albert didn't know handed him a Valentine's Day chocolate.
"Um... I have a girlfriend," Albert politely declined her offer.
"I know, but that doesn't stop me from giving you a gift, does it?" The girl winked at Albert, stuffed the Valentine's chocolate into his hand, and walked away with a giggle.
"You're still so popular!" Fred, George, and Lee Jordan couldn't help but laugh, though their words sounded rather sour.
"I thought they would give up, but I never expected to still receive Valentine's chocolates." Albert sighed helplessly. He had originally thought that after he had a girlfriend, the other girls would back off, but it seemed his idea was flawed.
"Won't your girlfriend give you chocolate?" Lee Jordan asked in confusion.
"Now that we're a couple, is there still a need for chocolate?" Albert tilted his head, not understanding Lee Jordan's words.
"Isn't it because we're a couple that we should give each other chocolate?" Hermione greeted Albert and asked.
"Oh, I see." Albert said, but he didn't take this matter to heart. Neither he nor Isabelle needed such formalities.
"Thank you for the gift last time, I really liked it." Hermione's cheeks flushed as she took out a greeting card from her pocket and handed it to Albert before running off quickly.
"You're really popular!" Lee Jordan's tone turned even more sour.
"Open it yourself!" Albert stuffed the parcel he had just received into Lee Jordan's hand and examined the greeting card Hermione had given him.
A Valentine's Day card should be a Valentine's Day card, right?
It was a rather unique card, featuring a couple walking one in front of the other.
There was only one sentence written on the back of the card:
"It's wonderful to have you by my side."
"What does this mean?" Fred and George craned their necks to look at the Valentine's card in Albert's hand.
"Looks like Miss Granger wants to be more than just friends with you!" George couldn't help but tease. "Your wish to have two or three girlfriends at the same time might come true."
"Stop talking nonsense. This is probably a return gift!" Albert calmly tucked the card into his pocket and continued towards the Great Hall, ignoring his roommates' teasing with an expression that said, 'What can you do to me?' Of course, Albert was quite happy to receive Hermione's Valentine's Day card. He cared more about his friends than strangers.
When the group arrived at the Great Hall, they found that it had been completely transformed. The walls were adorned with large, dazzling pink flowers, and heart-shaped confetti rained down from the ceiling, causing some minor trouble for everyone.
As they passed by, they saw Angelina and a few other girls whispering and giggling from time to time.
"What's going on?"
After sitting down, Albert brushed away the colorful confetti that had fallen onto his plate of grilled sausages and asked the question to Hannah, who was sitting across from him.
"It's Professor Lockhart's doing." Hannah pointed at the teachers' table, her face contorted in disgust.
Everyone looked towards the teachers' table and saw Lockhart wearing a bright pink robe, happily flipping through the Valentine's Day cards in his hand.
Albert couldn't help but ask, "Did you guys send Professor Lockhart Valentine's Day cards?"
"I didn't, but I don't know about the others." Hannah replied absentmindedly. "By the way, happy Valentine's Day. Here you go."
She took out a Valentine's Day chocolate from her pocket and handed it to Albert.
Fred, George, and Lee Jordan each received one as well, but compared to Albert's, theirs were pitifully small.
"We actually got some too."
George was a bit surprised. This was the first time he had received Valentine's Day chocolates from girls, even though he knew it was just a polite gesture. He was still touched. There was no way around it—that piece of chocolate was just too small to last more than one bite.
"This is the latest chocolate from Honeyduke's," Hannah explained with a smile. "I hope you don't mind."
In fact, Hannah didn't really want to give them any, but she knew that if she didn't give them something, the chocolate she gave to Albert would likely end up in the bellies of the other three.
"Thank you for the gift."
Albert said gently, and the other three also expressed their gratitude to Hannah.
The other girls shot confused glances at Hannah.
"It's more fun to celebrate the holiday together, isn't it?" Hannah explained with a smile, and it must be said that she outshone most of the students at Hogwarts in many ways.
At that moment, Lockhart stood up from the teachers' table and waved his hand to quiet the students.
At this time, the other professors all had stern expressions on their faces, clearly displeased with Lockhart's antics in the school. In fact, even before Lockhart graduated from Hogwarts, he had caused no small amount of headaches for the professors.
"Everyone, happy Valentine's Day!" Lockhart exclaimed. "So far, forty-six people have sent me greeting cards, and I would like to express my gratitude to them..."
Just then, an owl flew in from outside and dropped a heart-shaped package onto the table in front of Snape.
Everyone froze at that moment, their eyes collectively turning towards Snape. They were all curious as to who would send a Valentine's Day gift to the Potions Master.
In fact, not only the students but even the professors looked at Snape with curiosity, as they too were interested in this juicy gossip.
