Chapter 613: Dragon!
Chapter 613: Dragon!
“No, this magic isn’t as powerful as your Invisibility Cloak. It can’t make us completely invisible, so you need to be extra cautious and avoid making any noise when we need to hide!” Ivan explained.
While the Disillusionment Charm may seem similar to the Cloak of Invisibility, it doesn’t block out your presence or protect against Counter-Curses. It’s quite easy for powerful Wizards to see through it.
However, after years of practice, Ivan’s Disillusionment Charm was highly advanced. He believed that as long as Harry didn’t give himself away, Maxime wouldn’t detect them.
They continued to converse in hushed tones, ensuring they knew each other’s positions.
After crossing a large expanse of grass, they spotted Hagrid’s Cottage in the distance.
The Beauxbatons encampment was nearby, and the massive Carriage was brightly lit, with faint sounds of conversation drifting through the night air.
As they passed by, Harry held his breath, carefully avoiding any loose stones on the ground, fearing he might be discovered. Fortunately, everything went smoothly, and they reached the front door of Hagrid’s Cottage without incident.
Knock, knock, knock.
Ivan rapped on the door.
After a moment, the heavy wooden door swung open, and Hagrid’s enormous head appeared, his eyes scanning the empty ground before him. He asked in a low voice, “Harry, Ivan, is that you?”
“It’s us!” Ivan waved his wand, dispelling the spell on himself and Harry, and their forms became visible.
Harry, standing beside him, asked anxiously, “Hagrid, why did you ask us to come here so late at night?”
“To show you something!” Hagrid whispered.
Harry’s confusion grew. He couldn’t understand why they needed to see something at such a late hour when it could have been done during the day.
“Just follow me, you’ll see!” Hagrid said, his tone mysterious and tinged with excitement. He then stepped out of the house.
It was only then that Ivan noticed Hagrid’s unusual attire for the evening.
He was wearing a new fur coat, with a large red flower tucked into the buttonhole. His usually thick, wiry beard had been combed, and his face glowed with a renewed vigor, as if he had a new lease on life.
“Good heavens, Hagrid, what are you dressed up for? A date?” Harry, surprised by Hagrid’s formal appearance, joked, imagining the only possible reason for such attire.
However, he found it hard to picture Hagrid on a date, given his towering height, which made most people seem like dwarfs in comparison.
“Um... of course not,” Hagrid blushed, looking somewhat nervous. “We’re here on official business!”
Ivan rolled his eyes, and Harry wore a skeptical expression.
Hagrid’s thick skin, like a well-baked rock cake, allowed him to brush off the comment easily. He turned to the two of them and said, “You two stay hidden and follow me. Remember, no matter what you see, don’t make a sound, got it?”
Ivan nodded and waved his wand, and he and Harry vanished from sight.
Hagrid recognized the effect of the Disillusionment Charm and assumed they had opted for convenience over wearing the Invisibility Cloak. He didn’t mind, adjusted his clothing, and strode into the darkness.
Both of them noticed that Hagrid was heading straight for Beauxbatons' encampment.
Sure enough, Ivan and Harry followed Hagrid all the way to the massive carriage.
Hagrid, holding his fist as large as a cauldron, "lightly" knocked on the carriage door, the dull sound making one marvel at the door's sturdiness.
Madame Maxime quickly emerged from the carriage.
Clearly, she had been waiting up all night for Hagrid.
"Good evening, Madame!" Hagrid smiled, extending his hand to help Maxime down the golden stairs, looking quite attentive.
Harry, hidden nearby, was stunned. He hadn't expected his playful guess to be right—Hagrid was indeed on a date!
However, Harry had to admit that Hagrid and Maxime were quite a match, at least in terms of height.
Ivan, watching the scene, felt the same way. Finding a suitable partner for a half-giant was no easy feat.
But through his Legilimency, Ivan sensed that Maxime's interest in Hagrid was limited. She probably agreed to this late-night meeting to extract information about the tournament from Hagrid.
Sure enough, after a brief conversation, Maxime quickly steered the topic to the purpose of her visit. Hagrid, eager to please, immediately promised to take Maxime to the Forbidden Forest.
To avoid being discovered, Ivan and Harry kept a safe distance as they followed.
They walked along the edge of the Forbidden Forest for about ten minutes, the midnight chill causing Harry to shiver. His patience was wearing thin, and he couldn't understand why Hagrid had dragged them out in the middle of the night. Was it to give them a chance to date?
Just as Harry was considering turning back, Ivan's soft voice carried to his ears on the wind.
"We should be there! Let's get a bit closer!"
Harry was taken aback, unsure how Ivan knew, but he soon saw Hagrid and Maxime stop ahead.
In the distance, faint firelight and indistinct noises could be heard, as if someone was having a bonfire party.
Harry's curiosity piqued, he followed Ivan's advice and moved closer, the sounds growing louder.
When Harry peered through the gaps in the trees and saw the scene, his heart skipped a beat, and his mouth dropped open in shock, almost letting out a scream.
Dragon!
Harry's eyes widened. Less than ten meters away was a large, enclosed area surrounded by thick wooden boards. Several fierce Dragons were rearing their heads, letting out high-pitched roars, and spewing flames from their sharp-toothed maws.
At least thirty Wizards were battling them, with each team of ten tasked with subduing one Dragon.
Half of the Wizards were casting Protective Charms to prevent the dragon breath from causing widespread damage, while the others continuously waved their wands, firing spells of various colors at the Dragon Scales.
The Dragons fought fiercely, but their bodies were restrained by large chains, limiting their movement. Their flames were easily deflected by the Wizards, leaving the Dragons to emit desperate roars as they struggled and fell to the ground.
