Chapter 612: Wilbur! Where's Your Damn Laser Cannon!
Chapter 612: Wilbur! Where's Your Damn Laser Cannon!
Stepping out of the office, Kuro headed straight to the rear deck, where a crowd had already gathered to watch the commotion.
"Kuro, Mr.", Klah greeted, handing him a telescope. "Four Pirate Ships are chasing us from behind—the same ones I mentioned earlier. Each crew has over 100 million bounty."
"Hmph?" Kuro took the telescope and peered into the distance.
Sure enough, four Pirate Ships were closing in fast. Their flags clearly marked their identities: a skull covered in scars, a skull with long flowing hair, a skull wearing makeup with a microphone in its mouth, and a skull donning a helmet. The descriptions matched Klah's report perfectly.
Kas saluted and shouted, "Kuro, Mr.! Should we open fire with the cannons?!"
"Cannon fire this, cannon fire that—damn annoying!" Kuro's eyes flashed with cold fury. "Let me show these pests a real scare to stop bugging me all day! Wilbur!!"
"Present!" Wilbur barked.
"Where's your damn laser cannon?! Bring it out! We haven't tested its power in ages. Let's use these four Pirate Ships as our test subjects!"
"Laser cannon?!" Wilbur's eyes lit up. He snapped a salute. "Understood!"
Everyone had been dying to see the laser cannon's true power since Lucius Kro Admiral and Vegapunk integrated it into the main gun system. It was rumored to surpass even the Pacifista's lasers, but the specifics remained a mystery.
Meanwhile, the Golden Ship began turning toward the four Pirate Ships, as seen through the eyes of the enemy captains.
"Spotted us already?" Jestan sneered. "Brace for evasive maneuvers! I don't want to get blown to bits before we even close in!"
"Relax, Captain", Hood grinned. "I've calculated their speed. Though massive, this ship's agility can't match ours. We'll dodge their cannon fire easily."
As the Golden Ship completed its turn, presenting its broadside, Jestan's malevolent grin widened. "Outmaneuver them! Show them the agility of Pirate Ships!"
The four ships simultaneously veered opposite the Golden Ship's turn, swiftly repositioning from the stern to the bow. But to their shock, no cannon fire came.
Jestan had braced for cannonballs, only to realize the Navy wasn't firing conventional rounds. "They know their cannonballs can't hit us? Clever, but if they think boarding us will decide this, they're mistaken! I'm far too strong!" he boasted.
Suddenly, the lion-and-lion hybrid sculpture on the ship's bow, complete with ram horns, opened its maw. A golden light gathered inside, blinding in the sunlight, until a massive beam erupted forth. It skimmed the sea, kicking up a towering wave, and engulfed the four Pirate Ships in an instant.
All they saw was blinding golden light.
Boom!!!
Back on the Golden Lion's deck, Kuro watched as the four ships vanished in the golden inferno. As the beam continued its trajectory, only splintered wreckage remained—wood chips floating where mighty Pirate Ships once sailed.
"Holy hell", Kuro inhaled sharply, leaning back in awe. "That much power?!"
The laser cannon had reduced four ships to dust in seconds. Compared to the Pacifista's lasers, this beam was thicker, faster, and utterly devastating.
The crew stood stunned, some swallowing hard, cold sweat dripping. The sheer destructive force exceeded all expectations.
"Unbelievable!" Kas and Wilbur clenched their fists, blue veins bulging on their necks. "Absolutely incredible!!"
Wilbur's voice trembled with excitement. "The laser cannon's unstoppable! No Pirate Ship in the Grand Line stands a chance!"
Kuro lit a cigar, watching the lion sculpture's mouth close. He patted the statue, exhaling smoke. "Gramps really outdid himself. It's like a super-sized Pacifista laser attack—damn impressive."
A single shot had annihilated four ships. Even the Pirate Ships' sturdy construction, which could withstand conventional cannonballs, was no match. This explained why the Navy struggled to catch pirates in the Grand Line—their warships were sluggish compared to agile Pirate Ships. But now, Kuro's vessel was an exception.
The laser cannon's speed was insane, its power monstrous. Even a glancing hit could cripple a ship; a direct hit meant instant obliteration.
Though Kuro wasn't fond of the ship itself, this firepower felt reassuringly safe.
"Problem solved. Let's move out", Kuro muttered, eyeing the wreckage with disdain as he turned toward the fortress.
Splash!
Suddenly, figures burst from the water, landing neatly on the deck.
"Ha...!" Jestan, bloodied and one-eyed, gasped for breath. "Despicable Navy! You dare—!"
Beside him, Hood, missing an arm, opened his previously squinted eyes wide. "Captain, that man is—"
"Detestable Navy scum! Shine!" roared a hulking pirate with long, flowing hair and a devilish appearance. Twin nitoryu blades flashed as he lunged at the crowd.
Only their quick dive into the sea had saved them from the beam. Their crews, their combined pirate fleet—all lost in an instant.
Clang!
As the pirate swung, a hand blocked the blade. Klah appeared, catching the nitoryu with one hand while adjusting his glasses. "Maurice the Long-Haired? Survived? Unexpected."
