Chapter 612: The Truth
Chapter 612: The Truth
"How could they say such things about Sirius?"
As Kyle passed by the stairs after lunch, he overheard Harry shouting at Professor McGonagall in anger.
"Intentional harm to students, suspected Death Eater? How is that possible? He's a member of the Phoenix..."
"Potter!" Professor McGonagall interrupted harshly, cutting him off, "This is the decision of the Ministry of Magic, and we must comply."
"But..." Harry knew he had spoken out of turn, but he was too anxious.
Sirius being taken away for no apparent reason and now linked to Death Eaters was something he found hard to accept.
"But Professor, wasn't he acquitted?"
Professor McGonagall's lips twitched, and after a moment of silence, she said, "I can only tell you that things are not as you think... In any case, Headmaster Dumbledore will handle this matter. You just need to focus on preparing for your O.W.L. exams this year."
Harry wanted to ask more, but Professor McGonagall left without another word.
Frustrated, Harry slammed his fist on the stair railing, while Ron and Hermione looked at him with concern.
Kyle's expression changed, and it seemed like there was more to Sirius being taken away than met the eye...
Driven by curiosity, he decided to seek answers from Dumbledore.
So, that afternoon, after the last Magic History class, Kyle made his way to the eighth floor and stood before the statue of the gargoyle.
"Minty Peppermint..."
"Pepper Imp..."
"Syrupy Cherry!"
On the third try, the statue finally moved, stepping aside to reveal a passage behind it.
The password to the Headmaster's office was not hard to guess; it was usually a list of popular or new products from Honeydukes.
As Kyle pushed open the oak door at the end of the passage and entered the Headmaster's office, Dumbledore was seated at his desk, writing a letter.
Hearing the commotion, he looked up, "I thought you'd come to see me at noon."
Dumbledore put down his quill, "Is it about Sirius?"
"Sort of," Kyle replied, walking up to Fox and ruffling the feathers on his neck.
"What exactly happened? It can't be that a student was actually injured in his Dueling Club, can it?"
"There is some truth to that," Dumbledore said, "Some parents wrote to me last year, complaining that his teaching methods were a bit extreme."
"But there's another, more significant reason..." Dumbledore paused before continuing, "I received news that Peter Pettigrew is dead, and someone saw a large black dog near Azkaban."
"Peter Pettigrew is dead?" Kyle exclaimed in disbelief, "Could it be a false report?"
"No," Dumbledore shook his head, "I've confirmed it was indeed Pettigrew."
"When?"
"A week ago," Dumbledore replied.
"Then it couldn't have been Sirius," Kyle said firmly, "He was already at school when school started.
Although he is the one who most wants to kill Peter Pettigrew, with Harry around, he wouldn't take such a risk."
"I believe so too, but the Ministry of Magic doesn't buy it. They insist that I'm helping Sirius hide."
Dumbledore folded the parchment in his hand twice and placed it in an envelope.
"Then what about the Death Eaters?" Kyle continued, "I heard that Sirius was taken away because of something related to the Death Eaters."
"I'm not sure about that," Dumbledore said, "Perhaps Pettigrew said something before he died that led to this misunderstanding."
He placed the finished letter on the table, and Fox nudged Kyle with his head before grabbing the letter and flying out of the room.
Kyle was somewhat surprised; in the wizarding world, there weren't many who could get Dumbledore to send a message via fox.
Is it for Nicole? He wondered.
"Oh, right, there's one more thing," Dumbledore suddenly spoke up. "Although your actions in the Great Hall were quite satisfying, I must remind you that Professor Umbridge, the new professor, isn't as tolerant as the other professors."
"Including Professor McGonagall, who shares my thoughts. She believes it's best if you're more cautious and don't get caught with any evidence."
"No worries, I have a way to deal with her," Kyle responded.
However, Kyle didn't seem too concerned about Dumbledore's advice.
"But speaking of that..." He glanced at Dumbledore, "Professor, about what we discussed at the Pig's Head Pub... You haven't forgotten, have you?"
"Yes... I haven't forgotten," Dumbledore replied.
Dumbledore's fingers trembled slightly, and his tone became somewhat helpless, "In fact, I've already met with Amelia, Barty, Arthur, your father Chris, and had a drink with Doug at the Leaky Cauldron two days ago."
"Then there's no need to worry," Kyle said.
As he prepared to return to the Great Hall for dinner, he suddenly remembered something else and turned to ask:
"Professor, can you tell me about your plan?"
"What?" Dumbledore seemed not to have understood.
"The plan to get you expelled from the Wizengamot, confuse Fudge, and the Dark Lord," Kyle explained. "I noticed that the number of votes was quite different.
"Of course, if it's inconvenient, then forget it."
"This..."
"There are some things you may not fully understand..." Dumbledore suddenly became hesitant, and his tone carried a hint of inexplicable embarrassment.
"Whether it's the Wizengamot or the International Confederation of Wizards, it's impossible to have everyone present.
"For example, a Potions Master, when brewing certain precious potions, will never leave the room. The same goes for certain magical tasks."
"So, were you really expelled?"
"Ahem, it's not exactly like that," Dumbledore fiddled with the silverware on the table. "There are benefits... Those positions took up a lot of my time. After shedding these burdens, I can also focus on dealing with the most pressing matters at hand."
"Alright, I understand," Kyle turned and opened the oak door. "Then, goodbye, Professor."
"Next week's password is Lemon Snowball. You won't need to guess if you come again," Dumbledore said. "Good luck to you."
"And to you, Professor."
After leaving the Headmaster's office, Kyle went straight to the Great Hall.
Dinner was about to start, and the Great Hall was filled with students.
Conna had saved him a seat, and as Kyle sat down, he overheard Cedric discussing the team recruitment with Mikael.
Last year, they had one vacant position, and this year, two more students had graduated, so they needed to recruit three people in total.
One Keeper, one Chaser, and one Beater.
"The time is Saturday morning at 9 o'clock," Cedric said. "Since we have quite a few new recruits this time, I hope you can all come and see if the newcomers can work better with everyone."
"I have no problem with that," Mikael said. "It's best to have a senior Beater. The second-year newcomers are too young and lack strength."
Kyle shrugged nonchalantly. He didn't have any particular requirements for his teammates as long as they didn't hold him back.
"It'll definitely work out," Cedric said expectantly. "I really hope the Quidditch match can start soon. This year, we have Kyle's Firebolt, so even with a few more newcomers, the other houses won't be our match."
