Chapter 612: The Tale of the Three Brothers
Chapter 612: The Tale of the Three Brothers
Hearing Luna's words, Ivan was taken aback for a moment, then he couldn't help but laugh. The ideas of young witches were always so whimsical.
Is just seeing this memory considered companionship? That would make the word too cheap...
Ivan thought to himself, but before he could say anything, a book caught his attention.
It was a scene from Luna's memory, set in the workshop at Lovegood Manor. Xenophilius was sitting in the corner as usual, writing, but next to him was a well-worn fairy tale book.
Ivan took a few steps closer and glanced at the contents, confirming it was indeed The Tales of Beedle the Bard!
"Have you heard these stories before, Ivan?" Luna saw Ivan staring at the fairy tale book and walked over to him, asking softly.
"Sort of!" Ivan's thoughts were drifting, and he replied absentmindedly.
For some reason, Luna seemed to brighten up, "When I was little, father often told me about them: The Wizard and the Hopping Pot, The Fountain of Fair Fortune, The Warlock's Hairy Heart, Babbitty Rabbitty and the Cackling Stump..."
Luna listed each story from The Tales of Beedle the Bard with fondness.
Ivan, however, was completely lost, as he hadn't heard any of these stories before. Until now, he had always thought The Tales of Beedle the Bard contained only one story.
"Oh, almost forgot, there's also The Tale of the Three Brothers!" Luna thought for a moment and added.
"Right, that one I remember most clearly!" Ivan nodded quickly, as it was the only story he knew.
It was also the story about the Deathly Hallows!
As they chatted, Xenophilius in the memory finished his writing and his gaze fell on The Tales of Beedle the Bard.
After a pause, Xenophilius flipped through the yellowed pages, stopping at the story of the Three Brothers. He then took out a stack of parchment from a drawer and began writing swiftly.
From Ivan's perspective, the parchment was blank, as if Xenophilius was just pretending to write.
Curious, Ivan turned to look at Luna. The blonde young witch tilted her head slightly and murmured softly.
"Ever since mother passed away, father has been reading this storybook every day, but he never lets me see what he writes!"
Ivan now understood why the parchment was blank.
Even without seeing the specific content, he could guess that Xenophilius was trying to find clues about the Deathly Hallows from the snippets in the story.
Ivan recalled the father's promise to his daughter, which he had initially thought was just a kind lie. Now, it seemed far more serious.
The Resurrection Stone, the legendary gem that could bring the dead back to life, was Xenophilius' true goal.
No wonder Xenophilius in the original timeline knew so much about the Deathly Hallows and deeply believed in the legend of Death and the Three Brothers.
It wasn't just the knowledge passed down through Pureblood Families that informed him; the most important thing was that the wizard had placed his hope of resurrecting his wife on the Resurrection Stone.
Unfortunately... Ivan knew all too well that the Resurrection Stone's power was limited and could not truly bring the dead back to life.
Xenophilius's plan was about to fall through!
Ivan thought to himself, while Luna, standing beside him, suddenly swayed and almost fell to the ground.
"What's wrong, Luna? Are you okay?" Ivan stepped forward to support her, asking with concern.
Luna shook her head, indicating that she was fine, just a bit tired.
Ivan realized that he had spent too long in Luna's memory world, which had taken a toll on her mentally.
"Let's call it a day then!" Ivan suggested, and he voluntarily ended the Magic. The memory-constructed world crumbled around them, accompanied by a dizzying sensation.
When they regained their senses, they found themselves back in the deserted corridor. The surroundings were dim, indicating that a significant amount of time had passed!
[Ding, after diligent practice, your Legilimency level has increased. Current level: 4 (116/1600)!]
The notification in Ivan's mind made him smile slightly. Just as he had imagined, practicing Legilimency on Wizards led to a much faster increase in proficiency compared to usual.
With his high Occlumency level, he could easily push his Legilimency to level 6 with a bit more practice. It wouldn't take long to get there.
"Did it help?" Luna noticed Ivan's smile and asked to confirm.
"Of course, you were a great help this time!" Ivan said gratefully. Then, he hesitantly asked Luna if she could spare some time each week to continue practicing this Magic with him.
"I promise, it will only be for a short while each time, and it won't take up too much of your time!" Ivan assured her.
...
After making the arrangement with Luna, Ivan felt satisfied and prepared to return to the Dormitory.
With the Legilimency issue resolved, he just needed to find some time to monitor the Marauder's Map, identify a few suspicious individuals, and confirm them one by one.
Entering the Gryffindor Common Room, Ivan hadn't even made it up the stairs when Harry rushed over to him.
"Ivan, where were you this afternoon? I've been looking for you all day, and you weren't there for dinner," Harry panted, asking.
"I was just wandering around the castle, practicing some Magic. What's up? Is something wrong?" Ivan replied casually, but he was curious about why Harry was so anxious to find him.
Harry looked around furtively, ensuring no one was watching, before lowering his voice and continuing.
"Hagrid wants us to meet him at midnight tonight! He told me to bring the Invisibility Cloak... but you know, we lost that cloak..."
Hagrid? Ivan raised an eyebrow, recalling that Hagrid was likely planning to show them the Dragon, giving them a sneak peek of the first task.
Of course, whether the task would change, Ivan couldn't be sure, but it would be worth checking out.
As for the Invisibility Cloak...
"Don't worry, we can use the Disillusionment Charm instead!" Ivan patted Harry on the shoulder, reassuring him.
...
At half-past midnight, Ivan and Harry quietly climbed out of their beds in the Dormitory. After casting the Disillusionment Charm, they slipped through the Common Room, avoiding a few older students who were still awake, and quickly left the castle.
"This spell is so convenient, it's even better than the Invisibility Cloak!"
Stepping out of the Great Hall, Harry glanced back at the portraits that completely ignored their presence, marveling at the spell.
Unlike the cumbersome Invisibility Cloak, this spell only required a flick of the wand.
