Chapter 612: All Talk and No Action
Chapter 612: All Talk and No Action
The hospital had recently acquired a set of state-of-the-art medical equipment worth over ten million yuan, and everyone, from the top down, was thrilled about it. When they found out that Lu Jiaxin was the donor, the hospital director wasted no time in transferring Lu Hongjun to a private room for cadres.
After being moved to the private room, Lu Shan noticed that the doctors and nurses were exceptionally friendly. He didn't know what had happened, but he knew it had something to do with Lu Jiaxin.
As Lu Jiaxin prepared to leave, her eldest aunt-in-law arrived and said, "Jiaxin, your eldest brother told me this morning that you're back. I wanted to ask for the morning off, but no one could switch shifts with me."
Lu Jiaxin reassured her, "It's fine. Dad is awake now, but he's still not fully conscious. The doctor said it's normal, and he should be back to his usual self in a couple of days. For now, we just need to take good care of him."
Hearing this, her eldest aunt-in-law felt relieved.
Lu Jiaxin asked, "That woman, is she still living in Chaoyang?"
At the mention of Tang Sufen, her eldest aunt-in-law's anger flared up. "Yes, she's still there! After doing this to your third uncle, she still has the nerve to live in your house."
Lu Jiaxin called out to Xiao Xiao and instructed, "Go to Chaoyang and tell Tang Sufen that she needs to move out by tomorrow at sunset."
The house belonged to Lu Jiaxin, and now that Tang Sufen's family had caused such harm to Lu Hongjun, no one could blame her for kicking them out. Of course, if Lu Hongjun still couldn't bear to divorce her, then he would have to move out and rent a place with Tang Sufen. But given Lu Hongjun's pragmatic nature, he wouldn't dare to offend her or her eldest brother anymore.
Xiao Xiao nodded in agreement.
Worried that Xiao Xiao might resort to forceful measures to evict them, which could lead to gossip, the eldest aunt-in-law said, "Jiaxin, I'll go with her. If the neighbors talk, I can explain things to them."
Lu Jiaxin didn't mind, but since her eldest aunt-in-law insisted, she didn't refuse.
Her eldest aunt-in-law was also shrewd. Before leaving the hospital, she made a quick stop at a nearby convenience store to make a phone call, asking her second aunt-in-law to come and help. When dealing with someone like Tang Sufen, they needed someone as straightforward and sharp-tongued as the second aunt-in-law.
Upon hearing that Lu Jiaxin had returned, the second aunt-in-law's heart sank. Her husband had been called in for questioning, and she had been worried sick about it. When he returned, she unleashed her anger on him, beating him up soundly. If it weren't for her concern about her parents-in-law finding out and taking a turn for the worse, she would have sent him back to their hometown. He was good for nothing but causing trouble.
"Alright, I'm on my way," the second aunt-in-law replied.
Tang Sufen was in the yard, picking vegetables, while her toddler grandson was taking wobbly steps nearby. When she saw the second aunt-in-law marching in, her heart sank.
The second aunt-in-law shouted, "Tang Sufen, pack your things and get out now! If you don't leave, I'll throw your things out myself!"
Tang Sufen retorted, "This is my home. You have no right to kick me out."
The eldest aunt-in-law maintained a calm expression and said, "We may not have the right to kick you out, but this house belongs to Jiaxin, and she has every right to do so."
The second aunt-in-law felt that her sister-in-law was being too polite. She started scolding Tang Sufen, "You old hag with a black heart! How has our third uncle treated you these past few years? The whole neighborhood has seen it. He gave you a big house to live in, spent money on weddings for your two sons, and even paid for your youngest son and daughter to go to school. Anyone with a shred of conscience would be grateful for all that he's done for your family. But you and your ungrateful family not only failed to appreciate it, you even reported him, nearly costing him his life!"
Chinese people loved a good spectacle, and soon, the neighbors had gathered around to watch the drama unfold.
The second aunt-in-law continued, her voice rising with anger, "Tang Sufen, after doing this to our third uncle, if it were me, I would have slunk away long ago! Yet, here you are, shamelessly staying in this house and even bringing your grandson over. What? Do you plan to claim this house as your own?"
Tang Sufen was loath to leave. "I'm Lu Hongjun's wife. As long as I'm not divorced from him, I'll continue to live in this house."
Now she was resorting to thuggery, and Lu Er's mother was so enraged that she rushed forward and began to tear at her. The neighbors tried to pull the two women apart, but Qian Xiaoxiao stopped them.
Lu Er's mother was seething with anger, and she finally found an outlet for it. She scratched Tang Sufen's face, leaving streaks of blood. Of course, Lu Er's mother didn't come out of it unscathed either.
When the fight had gone on long enough, Qian Xiaoxiao signaled for the neighbors to pull the two women apart. Tang Sufen saw her grandson, who had been scared by the commotion, and started crying. She yelled at Lu Er's mother, threatening to call the police.
Before Lu Er's mother could retort, the police arrived. Tang Sufen immediately stated her intention to file a report, claiming that Lu Er's mother had tried to kill her and her grandson.
In the end, both parties were taken to the police station to give statements. Xiaoxiao slipped away as soon as she saw the police. After they left with Tang Sufen, she called a few aunties to help pack up Tang Sufen's belongings. Of course, they weren't doing it out of the goodness of their hearts; each of them received a hundred yuan for their trouble.
A typical worker's daily wage was just over a hundred yuan, and here they were being offered the same amount just for helping to pack things up. A few of the aunties were tempted.
Qian Xiaoxiao saw the desire in their eyes but also their hesitation. She took out the deed to the house and pointed to the name on it. "This house belongs to Lu Jiaxin. Now that Sister Jiaxin doesn't want that evil woman living here, we're throwing her things out. Even if the police come, they can't say anything."
If the owner of the house didn't want you to live there, there was nothing you could do about it. You had to admit, Sister Jiaxin was clever. She knew Lu Hongjun wouldn't marry anyone decent, so she made sure the house was in her name. Otherwise, they'd be arguing over the house now.
After giving her statement at the police station, Tang Sufen returned to the neighborhood. As soon as she entered the alley, she noticed the strange looks the neighbors were giving her. She didn't pay them any mind, as they had been acting that way since Lu Hongjun was hospitalized. But when she reached her house and saw her bedding, clothes, and kitchenware piled up by the door, she fainted.
Lu Da's mother and Lu Er's mother, seeing this, finally remembered Qian Xiaoxiao. They had to admit, when it came to getting things done, Xiaoxiao was the most capable.
The neighbors saw that Tang Sufen had fainted and said to the two sisters-in-law, "Your third sister-in-law has fainted. You should send her to the hospital."
Neither of them wanted to deal with her, indicating that she was no longer part of their family. Lu Da's mother said, "My third brother-in-law fainted in the hospital yesterday, and she didn't even bother to look at him. My sister said that this person is no longer part of our family."
In the end, it was the neighborhood committee auntie who stepped forward and pinched Tang Sufen's Renzhong point, quickly bringing her back to consciousness. When Tang Sufen woke up and saw her belongings strewn on the ground, she started crying and banging on the door.
One of the aunties who had helped pack up her things said, "That young girl showed us the deed to the house. It's in the name of Lu Jiaxin. Tang Sufen, you and Huang Xiaoyu almost killed her father. It's only right that she takes back the house."
Tang Sufen turned to the auntie, her eyes sharp as knives. "I am Lu Hongjun's wife. I have every right to live in this house. Open the door, quickly, or I'll break it down."
Qian Xiaoxiao opened the door and looked at Tang Sufen's twisted face. "Are you sure you want to live here?"
"This is my home. If I don't live here, where will I go?"
Qian Xiaoxiao replied decisively, "Fine, if you want to live here, then go ahead."
As they watched her walk away without a backward glance, the onlookers were stunned. Especially those who had been paid to help pack Tang Sufen's things—they regretted their cowardice and wished they hadn't gotten involved.
