Chapter 611: Why Another Pirate Ship?!
Chapter 611: Why Another Pirate Ship?!
Kuro would never know that his Golden Lion's brief appearance—lasting mere days—had already sparked rampant rumors about the "Golden Ship" across nearby sea areas.
The legend claimed this vessel carried endless gold, its hull forged entirely from the precious metal. It supposedly prowled near the Calm Belt sea area, bringing calamity to anyone greedy enough to covet it.
While just a rumor, countless pirates still sought it, including four notorious pirate crews.
During their searches, these crews occasionally crossed paths. Though minor conflicts erupted, none escalated—everyone respected the unspoken rule that only those qualified to reach Shabondy had the right to settle scores. The rest were merely failures in the Grand Line.
Still, they exchanged contact methods. After all, they shared the same goal. As pirates with bounties over 100 million, they weren't naive enough to believe the rumor. They needed proof.
As expected, it was a trap—a Navy ploy to lure pirates.
Two days later, the single Pirate Ship trailing the Golden Lion's rear became four.
"Is that the one?"
A long-haired man with a burly frame and dual-wielding a nitoryu and telescope squinted ahead.
"Yeah, that's it—the Navy's Warship", Hood replied with a grin. "Clever bastards, using gold to bait us."
"Hehehe, but they never expected us to team up", chimed a melodious voice. A celebrity-styled figure approached, dazzling smile in place. "Oh, the Golden Ship! I'm so jealous~ I want it! Won't you be sweethearts and give it to me?"
"Cut the jokes, you stinking woman", the long-haired man snarled, lowering his telescope. "That ship's mine!"
"Such a scary guy! If you keep bullying me, my fans might get angry~" The celebrity stepped back, pouting adorably.
"Enough!" A hulking figure in a horned helmet stomped forward. "We're allies, remember? My homeland has a saying: Only what you swallow becomes yours when sharing food. Let's destroy the Golden Ship first."
"Blah blah blah, you Neanderthal", the long-haired man scoffed. "Don't expect me to be cannon fodder. If we attack, we do it together!"
"Obviously."
Jestan stepped forward, his back jingling with sheathed blades. "Hood, explain the plan."
"Simple", Hood smirked. "That Golden Ship dwarfs ours, bristling with firepower. We avoid direct fire until boarding. But don't underestimate the Navy inside—they'll be elites."
The crew scoffed. These over-100-million-bounty outlaws earned their reputations through blood, not by pillaging towns or slaughtering civilians. They'd slain pirates and Marines alike. Jestan himself had felled a Navy Vice Admiral!
"If no objections to boarding, let's discuss approach", Hood continued, narrowing his already-slitted eyes. "We'll flank from behind, avoiding their cannons. Our ships' agility lets us dodge tailfire until we close in."
"Useless! You're wasting Old Man's time!"
Maurice exhaled sharply, leaping from the ship's railing back to his own. "My men! Target the Golden Ship! Full speed ahead!!"
He raised his nitoryu, roaring. His ship surged ahead, overtaking the others.
"My dear Songstress won't lag behind~" Dilia giggled, twirling like a dancer as she glided back to her ship, tailing Maurice.
"Time to move! Looting's the most passionate thrill in the world!" Veld's horned helmet revealed a malevolent grin as he returned to his ship, joining the charge.
Finally, Jestan's Woundspirate Group advanced. Though last, the four ships soon sailed abreast, racing toward the Golden Ship's stern.
...
"Kuro, Kuro."
In the Golden Lion's office, Lida lounged on the sofa, chin propped on her hands, legs swinging. "You're so young... How did your parents pass?"
Kuro's eyes darkened. He glanced toward the Grand Line's horizon. "Illness."
"Shelz Town's medical care was terrible. They were stubborn—ignored their sickness, kept working until they collapsed. I cared for them alone, tried arranging transport to a better island... but didn't make it."
Even the mighty couldn't defy disease. Zeff himself suffered asthma. In One Piece, even the strongest fell to illness. Birth, aging, sickness, death—the cycle no one escaped.
"That's when I realized—strength means survival. Sure, disease strikes randomly, but power at least wards off minor ailments like colds."
"Of course, I'm no fool. The 'strong never get sick' rumors are lies. But I'm brilliant, so obviously I never caught a cold!"
"How nice... I never met my parents", Lida murmured, suddenly somber.
"Exactly! Why dwell on the past, kid? Live happily! Remember, but don't drown in memories. It'll crush you." Kuro rolled his eyes.
"I'm Twenty, Kuro! Not a kid! And you still won't let me drink!" Lida puffed her cheeks.
"Kids don't need alcohol—soda's enough", Kuro glared. "Don't think I don't know you sneak tastes when I'm not looking. Fine, try it secretly. But not in front of me!"
"Eh? How'd you know?!"
"Kuro Vice Admiral!" Sazil burst in, snapping a salute. "Four Pirate Ships approaching from the rear!"
The words "Pirate Ship" triggered something in Kuro. He shot up, cursing. "Again?! Why's it always Pirate Ships?! Think they're immortal or something?! Fine! They want to play 'curious about Old Man's ship'? I'll give 'em a show! Sazil—tell Wilbur to roll out the laser cannons! Let's party!"
