Chapter 611: Truly Unpredictable
Chapter 611: Truly Unpredictable
Zhao Cheng Lei quickly pulled up a scallop and threw it into the bucket, then walked over to Jiang Xia.
Jiang Xia was digging in the sand with all her might.
There must be an iron box buried under the sand.
Zhao Cheng Lei saw a corner of the box peeking out, and it looked a bit like a safe.
The body of the box had rusted due to being submerged in water for too long.
Jiang Xia asked, "Does it look like a safe?"
Zhao Cheng Lei squatted down to help dig. "A bit."
Tian Caihua also squatted down to help. "Is this a safe? Like the ones you see on TV?"
Everyone knows from TV that only the ultra-rich have safes, which are usually filled with expensive jewelry, confidential documents, and stacks of money.
She knew that Jiang Xia wouldn’t just find some small snails and shrimp.
And here it was, just as she had thought.
Chen Xin also came over to help dig.
Tian Caihua said, "Do you think it might contain jewelry worth a million, diamonds bigger than pigeon eggs, gold bars, silver ingots, and piles of cash?"
Isn’t that how it always goes on TV?
Jiang Xia replied, "It could just be an abandoned safe with nothing inside."
Finding a safe on the beach, most of the time, it would be something discarded by someone.
The chances of it being empty are the highest.
Tian Caihua said, "That’s impossible!"
If she had found a safe, Tian Caihua would believe it to be empty.
But Jiang Xia’s safe? It absolutely couldn’t be empty!
She was willing to bet a hundred yuan on it.
Zhao Cheng Lei and Jiang Xia worked together to dig out the safe.
The safe was locked.
Zhao Cheng Lei felt the safe looked a bit familiar.
"Can we open it to see what’s inside?" Tian Caihua asked.
Zhao Cheng Lei replied, "It’s locked."
"Shake it to see if there’s anything inside", Tian Caihua said eagerly.
Zhao Cheng Lei shook it and heard a sound.
Tian Caihua immediately said, "There’s something inside. Let’s put it in a burlap bag and take it home to examine it."
We can’t let the treasure be seen by others!
Zhao Cheng Lei used a burlap bag to wrap the safe and planned to carry it onto the boat later.
No matter what, they had to take the safe back with them.
Tian Caihua, eager to continue, grabbed Jiang Xia’s arm. "Xia, let’s keep digging for treasures! Which direction do you want to go?"
Jiang Xia said, "Just keep going forward."
Tian Caihua immediately moved forward, looking around with her head down.
Jiang Xia didn’t mind and also bent down to search for shellfish.
She saw a sea bean sprout and bent down to pick it up.
Moving forward, she saw a pair of crab eyes and used a metal clamp to catch a palm-sized orchid crab.
Today, she had already found four orchid crabs, which would be perfect for making congee.
She also picked up a scallop.
Then she saw a prawn! She caught it!
A mantis shrimp’s burrow? She stepped on it!
A patch of dragon whisker grass? She picked it up!
This seaweed would be great for a cold salad.
An oyster? She didn’t let it go.
A group of spicy snails having a family meeting?
She scooped them all up!
A shrimp hiding in the sand, thinking she couldn’t see it?
Caught it!
A sandworm?
Caught it!
A scallop?
"Zhao Cheng Lei, there’s a scallop here."
...
Jiang Xia was having a blast on this fertile beach.
Zhao Cheng Lei, with his strength, was responsible for digging up scallops. In just over an hour, he had filled two burlap bags with them.
Jiang Xia also collected a bucket of various shellfish: chicken mother snails, spicy snails, car snails, hairy clams, oysters, scallops, a few orchid crabs, and over a dozen mantis shrimps and prawns, along with some dragon whisker grass.
It was a mixed bag, with a bit of everything.
Jiang Dong and Zhang Fuyan came over with their buckets, surprised. "Sis, Brother-in-law, you’ve found so much?"
"Xia, you’re amazing! We’ve only managed to fill half a bucket. How did you do it?"
Tian Caihua said, "You can’t compare. You’re here for fun, but we’re here to find something to eat!"
To put it more politely, some of them were here to experience life, while others were here to make a living. The former could just pick a few things casually, but the latter had to give it their all.
Hearing this, Jiang Dong and Zhang Fuyan felt a bit embarrassed.
At that moment, Zhou Chengsen arrived with Ruan Tang, Ou Minling, and the two children. Zhou Chengsen was carrying two buckets filled with the sea snails and scallops they had collected.
"The tide is starting to rise. We should head back, right?"
Zhao Chenglei tossed a scallop into the burlap bag. "Let's go!"
*
By the time they got home, it was already one o'clock.
Zhou Mu had already cooked some white congee and stir-fried noodles.
Zhao Chenglei cleaned the crabs.
Jiang Xia washed the shrimp and sea snails.
Zhou Chengsen shucked the oysters to get the meat out.
Zhou Chengxin opened the scallops and steamed them with vermicelli.
Tian Caihua was responsible for washing the sandworms. Zhou Chengxin had dug up about two pounds of them. Sandworms were full of sand, so they had to be turned inside out with a bamboo skewer and thoroughly washed before they could be eaten.
Zhou Mu made a seafood congee, adding oysters, shrimp, crab, oyster meat, sandworms, and lean meat.
Tian Caihua stir-fried some car snails, steamed the scallops with vermicelli, and blanched a large plate of spicy snails, chicken mother snails, and hairy clams.
Jiang Xia and Zhao Chenglei went to breastfeed the children.
After feeding and putting the children to sleep, the group enjoyed a belated lunch together.
After lunch, they chatted for a while, and before they knew it, it was already four o'clock.
Jiang Xia used a net bag to pack up everything they had collected.
Zhou Ying and Zhou Zhou saw this and said, "Auntie, could you also give the three sisters what I picked? I want to give it to them."
"Give what I picked to the three sisters too!"
"Sure."
Jiang Xia packed several net bags full, then added some dried fish, about a pound or two of each type, for them to take back.
Ruan Tang and Ou Minling felt embarrassed taking so much.
After eating and receiving so much, how could they feel comfortable?
They had already taken up most of the day with the Jiang family.
Jiang Xia smiled, "It's no problem. We have plenty at home. We can't eat it all, so take it back for your families to try. These are for Dr. Gao, could you bring them to her?"
Ruan Tang and Ou Minling hadn't come empty-handed. Even if they had, given the care and attention Dr. Gao and Editor Fan had shown her, Jiang Xia wouldn't let them leave empty-handed.
Jiang Xia gestured for Jiang Dong to load everything into the car.
Zhao Chenglei had already lined the trunk with cardboard and plastic bags.
Jiang Dong obediently carried the bags into the car.
Jiang Xia and Zhao Chenglei followed their car to the dock, planning to buy some more sea fish for them to take back.
Jiang Father was returning today, and he loved fish.
Just as the family's fishing boat had returned, Zhao Chenglei picked out a few good fish for them to take back.
Seeing Ruan Tang and Ou Minling still feeling uncomfortable, Jiang Xia smiled, "They're all from our family's fishing boat, so it doesn't cost us anything."
Jiang Dong loaded everything into the car without hesitation.
Why be polite with his sister?
As the Jeep drove out of the village, they encountered Liao Ruixiang on a motorcycle with Li Xiuxian.
Jiang Dong was about to greet them, but Zhang Fuyan quickly pulled him back. "You forgot!"
Jiang Dong quickly shut his mouth. "I remember now."
Ou Minling was curious. "Forgot what?"
Zhang Fuyan explained, "That woman on the motorcycle is Zhou Second Brother's ex-wife."
Ou Minling worked in media and had a bit of a gossip heart. "Zhou Second Brother is divorced? Why?"
It was hard to tell.
"His wife cheated on him during their marriage."
Ruan Tang was taken aback and looked out the window.
How could a man like him have a wife who cheated on him?
