Chapter 611: The Offer
Chapter 611: The Offer
At the entrance of the Patrol Bureau's residential area, Nian Fuli and his younger sister-in-law, Yu Wan, stood with their two young children, while the neighbors from the residential area craned their necks from a distance, their eyes filled with both curiosity and envy.
Nian Fuli's family had just received a call from Chen Chuan, informing them that he had been released from the Handling Bureau and would arrive in less than ten minutes.
After waiting for a short while, a vehicle turned into the road ahead of them.
Nian Lu, Chen Chuan's cousin, jumped up and down, exclaiming, "Uncle Chen is back!" She felt Yu Wan's hand tighten around hers.
As the car approached, it slowed down and came to a stop in front of them. A patrol officer quickly exited the vehicle and opened the rear door.
Chen Chuan stepped out, removing his hat and approaching Nian Fuli and Yu Wan with a smile. "Uncle, Auntie," he greeted them.
"Oh!" Yu Wan responded.
Nian Fuli noticed Chen Chuan's uniform and the armored vehicle parked behind him. He could feel the envious gazes of the neighbors behind him. Straightening his back, he acknowledged Chen Chuan with a grunt. "Chen Chuan, that Handling Bureau supervisor uniform fits you well."
His words, neither loud nor soft, were met with a low murmur of surprise and whispered discussions from the neighbors behind him.
Yu Wan paid no attention to the onlookers. She examined Chen Chuan, noticing that he seemed taller than a few months ago. Her mind wandered back to when her older sister was absent, and she had to take care of Chen Chuan like her own children. It felt like just a blink of an eye had passed, and now he was standing tall, ready to face the world. "Chen Chuan has grown up," she murmured.
At that moment, Chen Chuan felt a tug on his sleeve and looked down to see Nian Lu and Nian Mo, the two young children, looking up at him. "Uncle Chen, where's Zhu Zhu? Didn't Zhu Zhu come back?" Nian Mo asked.
Chen Chuan smiled and glanced up at the sky. A high-pitched caw sounded, followed by a dark shadow rapidly expanding, and then the flapping of wings. Zhu Zhu descended from the sky, flapping its wings a few times before landing gracefully beside Chen Chuan.
Zhu Zhu now wore something similar to a Ji Pei on its head, shaped like a crown. This was provided by the Wing Blade Company, allowing it to communicate with the aura creatures in the motorcade when they were outside the city.
When it was in the sky, its appearance was unremarkable, but now on the ground, its feathers, enhanced by the Transmutation Organization, shimmered with vibrant and were soft and lustrous. It stood proudly, looking majestic.
The two children exclaimed in awe and rushed to pet Zhu Zhu's soft feathers.
Chen Chuan glanced at the neighbors behind him and nodded. "Auntie, Uncle, let's go home and talk, shall we?" he suggested.
"Yes, the light outside is too bright," Yu Wan rubbed her eyes and said, "Let's go home first and talk there."
Nian Fuli grunted in agreement, feeling a bit disappointed. He could have stood outside for a little longer if he wanted.
Two patrol officers who had accompanied Chen Chuan helped unload the items he brought from Central City. They followed Chen Chuan inside.
Once inside the house, the officers placed the items and quickly declined Yu Wan's offer of refreshments. They saluted Chen Chuan and left promptly.
Chen Chuan removed his uniform, washed his face, and put away some items. When he returned to the living room, he took out the gifts he had bought.
The two children jumped around excitedly. Every time Uncle Chen returned, he brought them fun gifts, and they always looked forward to his visits.
After the gifts were distributed to Nian Fuli and Yu Wan, the two children ran off to play with Zhu Zhu. They had taken a day off from school to welcome Uncle Chen's return.
Chen Chuan sat down and shared some recent news with Nian Fuli and Yu Wan, carefully selecting only the positive aspects and omitting most of the dangerous encounters he had faced. He also inquired about the situation after his departure.
Central City, with its dense population, convenient communication, and the presence of various companies, was at the forefront of defense, with a fast-paced and entertaining environment where incidents occurred almost daily.
However, Yangzhi City was different. It remained unchanged from the beginning of the year, showing little development over the past half a year.
After sharing his experiences, Chen Chuan looked at Nian Fuli and Yu Wan and said, "Uncle, Auntie, I have something important to discuss with you."
Nian Fuli noticed Chen Chuan's serious expression, different from his casual demeanor earlier, and straightened up. "Chen Chuan, go ahead, we're listening."
"Chen Chuan, we're family. Speak your mind," Yu Wan encouraged him.
Chen Chuan nodded. "It's like this." He turned to Nian Fuli and Yu Wan, "I've been promoted to Investigation Supervisor, and according to the regulations, I can grant my family members citizenship in Central City."
"Auntie and Uncle raised me, and now that I have the ability, I can bring you both to settle down in Central City."
"He looked at Nian Fuli, 'I can help arrange a position for your uncle in Central City, it won't be worse than his current job. As for your cousins, Xiao Lu and Xiao Mo, I can also arrange for them to study in Central City. What do you think, Uncle and Auntie?'"
Nian Fuli patted his pockets, taking out his pipe. Chen Chuan wanted to light it for him, but he waved his hand, indicating he'd do it himself, and said, "Let me think about it."
After lighting it and taking a few puffs, he said after a long pause, "Xiao Chuan, I've been with the Patrol Bureau for half my life. My family is here, and suddenly leaving like this..." He shook his head.
Chen Chuan understood his hesitation.
After retiring from the military, Nian Fuli had been with the Patrol Bureau all along. Here, he had his superiors and comrades, and everything and everyone he was familiar with. Changing to a new place would indeed be a challenge to adapt to.
Moreover, to be honest, Central City wasn't all that great. Although Yangzhi was small, at least before the big conflict, it was more suitable than Central City.
Yu Wan's fingers twitched, "Chanchun, your aunt has only ever traveled a few times with your uncle, she's never lived anywhere else. Central City is a completely unfamiliar place for her..."
Chen Chuan nodded, "Uncle and Auntie, this is just a suggestion. The decision is up to you two. Besides, there's no need to rush. As long as I'm here, this position will be available."
Nian Fuli silently nodded his head.
In that moment, Yu Wan's heart had wavered, not for herself, but for her children's education.
Even if they thought Yangzhi was the best place, they knew that in terms of education, it couldn't compare to Central City.
"Chanchun, is Central City the only place for Xiao Mo and Xiao Lu to study...?"
Chen Chuan smiled, "It's not necessary to go to Central City. Even if they don't go there, I can invite good teachers to teach Xiao Lu and Xiao Mo."
Yu Wan hesitated, "Chanchun, is this... not a problem?"
"No problem."
Chen Chuan replied confidently, "Auntie, this is truly a minor matter for me."
Nian Fuli knew that many of the Patrol Bureau captains and some of his colleagues had hired private tutors for their children. With the expansion of Wu Yi Academy's enrollment, they had even started teaching martial arts. These days, he and Yu Wan had been discussing this matter.
He made a decisive decision, "Let's follow Xiao Chuan's suggestion."
Yu Wan sighed. Seeing that their tea had gone cold, she stood up and said, "Let me pour you a fresh cup."
Chen Chuan asked, "Uncle, is Instructor Wen around these days?"
Nian Fuli replied, "Instructor Wen is always here. When you called back, I even visited him. Instructor Wen is usually at the Patrol Bureau in the afternoon and evening, and at home in the morning. Xiao Chuan, if you want to find him, you'll have to go in the morning."
Chen Chuan nodded.
This time, he had returned not only to visit his family but also primarily to look for Instructor Wen. The book Instructor Wen had given him should not have been given without reason, and it seemed like an invitation in itself.
After finishing their conversation, they chatted casually until the evening when they had dinner together. Chen Chuan then returned to his room.
By then, the sky had darkened, and the room's arrangement hadn't changed. Each item was placed where he had originally kept them.
The books his predecessor loved to read, along with the movie posters stuck on top, remained as they were in the past.
The Xue Jun Sword leaned against the corner, currently in a state of slumber. It was unknown when it would awaken, but...
He glanced upwards, and the pure essence continued to disperse outward during these days. So, at night, he could still capture some of it.
It seemed that the gap in the World Ring was indeed challenging to fill, as even after several months, it hadn't been successful.
Could there be something on the other side obstructing it, causing this situation? The pure essence scattered around the world should be sensed and acquired by more people, especially those who were previously unable to progress. Perhaps with this, they could advance to higher realms.
Perhaps, in the past, the upper echelons had blocked this to screen and control the local fighters, but now, it was likely that certain powers were using this to hinder others' advancement. It was natural, then, that some below would try to break through this barrier.
He pulled the curtain closed and sat on the bed, concentrating on sensing the essence. As long as it continued to disperse, he would use breathing meditation to replace sleep at night.
His physical cultivation had already reached its limit, but after consuming the pure essence, he felt his cap had increased slightly. His spiritual cultivation had also greatly improved under the nourishment of the essence, and with the spirit mark reaching an extremely high position, followed by the additional nourishment, his growth was rapid.
His eyes shone with a firm and determined light. When both his physical and spiritual cultivation reached perfection, and after integrating with his second self, he would truly surpass the unprecedented limit.
