Chapter 610: The New Super Novas
Chapter 610: The New Super Novas
As the Golden Lion dealt with the foolish Pirate Ship, far behind the main battle, another pirate vessel lingered at a distance. A scarred man aboard it raised a telescope, peering through it with narrowed eyes.
"Sure enough, that golden ship has someone aboard."
The scarred man lowered the telescope and spat, "Damn the Navy for using such tricks against us pirates!"
"Captain, should we give up?" a pirate asked nearby.
"Not a chance!"
Clutching his Fist tightly, the scarred man grinned with malevolent glee. "Since the Navy dared this scheme, we’ll show them pirates don’t back down. This is a challenge we must answer. That ship—I want it!"
This scarred, fist-clenching figure was a rising star in the Grand Line after the Worst Generation—the captain of the Woundspirate Group, ‘Chaos Blades’ Ben Jestan, with a bounty of 169 million Beri.
Beside him stood Hood, the Woundspirate Group’s first mate and combat specialist, known as ‘Scabbard’, with a bounty of 58 million.
Hearing Ben Jestan’s words, Hood nodded. "Then we’ll need allies. This ship’s been stirring rumors across the seas. Many like us are already eyeing it."
"Unite then! Let the Navy see—pirate pride won’t be trampled!"
Ben Jestan tossed the telescope aside and crushed it underfoot, turning sharply. Blades strapped to his back jingled with each step.
Hood glanced at the shattered telescope, his own malevolent grin widening. "Finally, some excitement!"
...
"Damn it, what’s going on up front? Not only haven’t we cleared the pirates, but there are more now?"
In the Golden Lion’s cabin, Kuro watched the wreckage of ships floating on the sea.
"Whitebeard’s death truly sparked a pirate surge", Klah explained. "Kuro Mr., you dealt with many in Shabondy, but this year, several new threats have emerged in Paradise."
"More troublemakers?" Kuro raised an eyebrow.
"A few. The most active is the Woundspirate Group. They take pride in their scars, and nearly every crew member wields a sword skillfully. Their captain, ‘Chaos Blades’ Ben Jestan (169 million Beri), uses ten blades. Enemies who face him die as if torn apart by chaos—that’s where his epithet comes from."
"Their vice-captain, ‘Scabbard’ Hood, is a master of Iaijutsu. His first strike is always fatal. None have survived his second."
"Iaijutsu? Interesting", Kuro muttered.
"Second is the Long-Haired Pirate Group, led by the ferocious Maurice (144 million Beri), a bloodthirsty killer. Third, the Star Pirate Group, captained by the Songstress Dilia (130 million Beri). Lastly, the Helmet Pirate Group, led by the armored Veld (100 million Beri)."
"These four crews are the Super Novas with bounties over 100 million. Strangely, they’re all following the same navigational route. If they evade capture, they’ll converge at Shabondy. If they survive that and reach the New World, they’ll become serious threats."
Pirates with bounties over 100 million were never easy prey. Underestimating them meant disaster. These crews might wield unique skills, deadly martial arts, or other talents. Once they reached the New World, survival would forge them into true nightmares.
No one was born powerful. Even Charlotte Big Mom once served under another pirate. Growth required trials. Even Kuro himself had spent a decade in relentless cultivation.
Crushing such budding geniuses early was the Navy’s wisest move. Sakazuki’s World Recruitment and Pacifista program, combined with Whitebeard’s dying act, had intensified the arms race. The Age of Unraveling was no place for the weak.
"Four crews aren’t bad", Kuro sighed. "But with more mid-tier pirates, the balance hasn’t shifted much."
"Continue sailing. If we spot any of these so-called active crews, blast them", Kuro waved dismissively. "Even the Old Man’s vacation period isn’t stable anymore. Might as well head straight to G-3."
"We’re nearing the Calm Belt. No pirates here", Klah replied. "Only ships with wind-powered sails survive the Sea Kings. Even those with special propulsion struggle here."
The Golden Lion sailed on, while the pirate ship still trailed behind.
Elsewhere, in a burning town, a muscular, round-headed man with long, flowing hair slammed his Naginata’s hilt into the ground, shattering a Transponder Snail. Grinning malevolently, he roared, "My men! The golden ship’s been found!"
In another town, residents stared entranced at a colorful-clad woman singing. Nearby, pirates looted their homes, unchallenged.
"Come", the woman smiled, "bow before the Songstress’s voice!"
A pirate rushed in, holding a Transponder Snail. "Captain! We’ve found the golden ship!"
In yet another sea zone, pirates in bulky helmets looted a merchant ship. Their leader, wearing a helmet three times larger than the rest, laughed wildly, holding a merchant captain’s severed head.
"Subordinates! We’ve found the golden ship! Let’s raid!"
