Chapter 610: Sirius is Taken Away?
Chapter 610: Sirius is Taken Away?
Kyle had a fair idea why Sirius was so well-liked at Hogwarts.
For the students in the castle, a duel that allowed for free expression and interaction was obviously more appealing than sitting and taking notes.
This also played to Sirius' strengths.
His teaching skills were average, but his power and combat experience were impressive.
Among all the sixth-year students, only five, including Kyle, could make him take a step back.
As for the rest, they shouted loudly but had limited moves, lacking adaptability. A simple Iron Body Charm was enough to ensure Sirius' invincibility.
Despite not earning any extra points, the students still looked happy after class.
"This is great! I like Professor Black's class better than Professor Moody's," said Mikael. "What are you guys up to next? Want to play a game of Wizard's Chess?"
"I'm afraid not," Kyle shook his head. "I'm heading to the Advanced Transfiguration class."
"Oh, I see," Mikael realized. "If it's you, you'll definitely meet the requirements..."
The biggest change after entering the sixth year was the different class schedule.
The courses were divided into two types: regular classes and advanced classes, also known as N.E.W.T. classes.
These advanced classes were held only once a week, but students needed to achieve O.W.L. grades to qualify, similar to the professors' clubs.
Kyle and Conna found only ten students in the corridor for Professor McGonagall's advanced class.
Hufflepuff had only Kyle and Conna, as the others didn't meet Professor McGonagall's requirements. Among the three Ravenclaws, they saw Autumn, along with three Slytherin and two Gryffindor students.
"Isn't this number a bit too small?" Autumn whispered in the spacious classroom. "It's the first time I've felt the Transfiguration classroom so empty."
"There's no other way," Kyle shrugged. "Professor McGonagall has the strictest requirements. According to Cedric, the previous year didn't have many students either."
"I wonder what Professor McGonagall will teach us," Autumn said with anticipation.
But she soon found out.
Human Transfiguration... It wasn't the most difficult, but it was the most dangerous.
Since this transformation was self-inflicted, a failed spell or mistake wouldn't just mean starting over; it would send you straight to the school hospital.
"As you are all top Transfiguration students, I have an additional requirement..."
Professor McGonagall stood in the middle of the group, calmly saying, "Don't make a sound. Try to recite the spell in your mind. This will determine whether you can smoothly obtain your N.E.W.T. certificate."
Everyone nodded in agreement.
In fact, this had already been mentioned by Professor Flitwick during yesterday's Charm class. It wasn't just for the advanced class; everyone would eventually have to attempt this, but they would start later, about a month into the school year.
For most, the sixth year was indeed much easier than the fifth. But for those aiming for more N.E.W.T. certificates, the fifth year was just the beginning, and it would only get busier.
As it was the first class, Professor McGonagall didn't set an overly challenging task. She merely asked everyone to transform their hands into small cacti.
Compared to animal transformations, plant transformations were undoubtedly simpler. By the end of class, everyone had completed the task.
Each person had a cactus on their arm, varying in size and shape, making for an interesting sight.
A Ravenclaw girl even added a beautiful silk orchid to her cactus, increasing the difficulty.
However, her actions did not earn her any bonus points from Professor McGonagall, as the cactus did not bloom with the silk orchid.
When class ended, Conna was asked to stay behind.
Kyle waited outside for a few minutes before she emerged with Professor McGonagall.
"So, it's settled then. The club meets every Tuesday and Friday at 6 p.m.," Professor McGonagall said, then glanced at Kyle, "Remember, you'll need to find the classroom on your own. It's our tradition and a test."
"I understand," Conna replied.
"What did she tell you?" Kyle asked curiously after Professor McGonagall left.
"She invited me to join the Transfiguration Club," Conna said with a smile, sounding excited.
She knew that Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration Club was difficult to get into, with only a handful of members from the entire school, and Kyle was one of them.
Kyle had joined the club in his third year, making him one of the earliest members.
"If I may say so, Professor McGonagall should have invited you three years ago," Kyle said happily. "Do I need to secretly tell you the location of the classroom entrance? It's not easy to find."
"Absolutely not," Conna shook her head repeatedly, "You heard her too; Professor McGonagall said it's a test. I don't want to use cheating to get in."
"If it doesn't work out..." Conna paused before continuing, "Then it only means I'm not yet qualified to join you."
"That's not possible..." Kyle said with a smile, "You'll definitely be able to find the entrance."
Conna smiled as well, but it was clear she was still a bit nervous.
This work is uploaded by the 69 Book Bar.
"Is the Transfiguration Club similar to the advanced class?" Conna couldn't help but ask as they walked towards the Great Hall, "Do you meet weekly to study more challenging content or learn little tricks for casting spells?"
"There will be times like that."
Kyle thought for a moment and replied, "Since the club has no age restriction, I was already learning human transfiguration in my fourth year.
"But more often, the club discusses the extended applications of transfiguration, such as multiple transformations of objects and partial transformations, which are not covered in textbooks."
"Is that so?" Conna nodded and said, "That's completely different from the Potions Club."
"What's the Potions Club like?" Kyle asked.
He hadn't joined the Potions Club, and Snape had shown no intention of inviting him.
"The Potions Club," Conna explained, "Snape teaches us special methods for handling potion ingredients that are not in the books but are simpler and more convenient.
"Additionally, he also teaches us how to brew more complex potions, roughly two years more advanced than the regular curriculum.
"Don't you have an advanced Potions class on your schedule? You'll find out soon... I remember some upperclassmen mentioning that the club content is similar to the advanced class."
"Oh?" Kyle raised an eyebrow.
Interestingly, his schedule did include an advanced Potions class, which was on Monday.
Kyle had initially thought that Snape would deny him entry because he hadn't taken the O.W.L. But if it was only about handling potion ingredients, he didn't see the need to attend the advanced class, as he already knew those methods, and Snape would be teaching them anyway, just in a different format.
As they spoke, the two of them arrived at the Hufflepuff table in the Great Hall and sat down to have lunch.
However, at that moment, Kyle unintentionally overheard a conversation among some fifth-year students nearby.
"Why did the Ministry of Magic take away Professor Black...?"
"I heard it's because someone got injured in his class."
"But didn't he already warn us? And why didn't the Ministry come last year?"
"I don't know..."
