Chapter 610: She Doesn't Believe
Chapter 610: She Doesn’t Believe
Zhou Chengsen and Zhou Chengxin got off the boat and pushed it closer to the shore to make it easier for everyone to board.
Zhao Chenglei and Jiang Dong helped Zhou Zhou and Zhou Ying onto the boat first, then went back to help Jiang Xia and Zhang Fuyan.
Tian Caihua, who was already on the boat, smiled and said, "Are you two coming too? What about your brothers?"
Zhou Ying pointed and said, "They’re already on the beach, over there!"
Tian Caihua glanced over and didn’t bother with her sons anymore.
After Jiang Xia and Zhang Fuyan got on the boat, they helped Ou Minling and Ruan Tang board.
Jiang Xia helped Ou Minling, while Zhang Fuyan helped Ruan Tang.
As Ruan Tang was climbing up, her foot slipped, and she started to fall.
Zhou Chengsen, who hadn’t yet boarded, instinctively reached out to catch her.
He then noticed a large bruise on her waist, a dark purple mark.
He wasn’t sure how she had gotten it.
Ruan Tang climbed onto the boat, adjusted her clothes, and said, "Thank you."
Zhou Chengsen glanced at her but didn’t say anything. He pushed the boat out to deeper water and climbed on.
Once everyone was on board, Zhao Chenglei started the boat and headed towards the mangrove beach.
The boat sped forward, and after about ten minutes, they arrived.
From a distance, they could see a group of white seabirds on the beach, as if they were attending some grand feast.
Zhang Fuyan excitedly said, "So many seabirds!"
Ruan Tang asked, "Are they catching fish?"
Ou Minling exclaimed, "Wow, they’re so beautiful!"
Zhou Zhou and Zhou Ying were used to the sight.
Jiang Dong was busy taking photos with his camera.
The beach by the mangroves had more exposed sand due to the receding tide, and with no one around, the seabirds from the forest had come out to forage in groups.
Jiang Xia watched from a distance and thought the fish they were catching looked pretty big. "What kind of fish are they?"
Zhao Chenglei said, "Probably mudskippers."
The boat soon stopped, and Zhou Chengsen and Zhou Chengxin got off first, pushing the boat onto the sand to make it easier for everyone to disembark.
After the boat was secured, they helped the two children off.
Once everyone was on the beach, Zhou Ying tugged at Ruan Tang’s sleeve. "Sister, follow us and Zhou Zhou, we’ll show you how to spot snail eyes."
"Okay!" Ruan Tang and Ou Minling didn’t want to dampen the children’s enthusiasm, so they followed them.
Zhou Zhou and Zhou Ying led them to where the most seabirds were.
There was still some shallow water on the beach, so they couldn’t run, but the two children were eager to get going.
Zhou Chengsen carried a bucket and other tools, following behind his daughters and Zhou Zhou.
As they walked, Zhou Zhou spotted a belt clam’s eye. "Belt clam!"
Everyone looked down at where Zhou Zhou was pointing.
Zhou Ying said, "Right, that’s a belt clam’s eye, it’s long."
The two sisters started digging with their shovels.
Ruan Tang and Ou Minling also looked down to see if they could spot any.
Zhou Chengsen came over and pointed at Ruan Tang’s feet. "There’s one here, it’s not very obvious. If you see the sand looks a bit different, there’s usually something there."
He then pointed at his own feet. "These tracks are usually left by a mother-of-pearl snail."
He bent down and dug his hand into the sand, pulling out a mother-of-pearl snail.
Then he went to dig up the belt clam.
Ruan Tang and Ou Minling tried their best to find some.
Ruan Tang noticed a slight bump in the sand underwater and dug it up, finding a crab hidden beneath the sand.
It was a red-claw crab.
Ou Minling exclaimed, "Wow, Ruan Tang, you’re so good!"
Zhou Chengsen looked over. "Be careful, don’t touch it!"
But it was too late. Ruan Tang’s finger was already caught by the red-claw crab’s pincers!
She let out a soft cry.
Zhou Chengsen walked over, held her hand, and put it in the water.
The crab loosened its claws and scurried away.
He scooped up a handful of sand to cover it, then grabbed it and tossed it into the bucket. He then looked at Ruan Tang's hand—she was bleeding.
Zhou Ying: "Dad, Sister Doctor’s hand is bleeding."
"It’s fine, just a little bit", Ruan Tang said nonchalantly, continuing to search.
Zhou Chengsen handed her a pair of gloves. "Wear these."
"Thank you", Ruan Tang replied, taking them.
Zhou Chengsen didn’t say anything, then gave another pair to Ou Min Ling.
Ou Min Ling also thanked him.
"You’re welcome", Zhou Chengsen responded, continuing to search. There were quite a few belt clams today.
He started digging with the iron shovel.
They were digging for belt clams over here.
Jiang Dong and Zhang Fu Yan went to check out the seabirds to see if there was anything to pick up.
Jiang Xia walked a few dozen meters from the boat and saw many mother-of-pearl snails’ tracks.
Mother-of-pearl snails were quite delicious, but they were not commonly seen.
Belt clams were harder to dig up and required more effort, so Zhao Cheng Lei was doing most of the digging.
The couple divided the work.
Jiang Xia picked snails—mother-of-pearl snails, snail eyes, and hairy clams.
Today’s mother-of-pearl snails, snail eyes, and hairy clams were all quite large.
They often appeared in groups, so she could pick up two or three, sometimes even four or five at a time. Occasionally, she would find six or seven.
It was simply amazing!
Zhao Cheng Lei couldn’t stop digging for belt clams either. There was one every few steps, and sometimes even two together.
It didn’t take long to fill a bucket.
This mangrove forest only appeared during low tide, so there was still a lot to find.
There were many tree oysters on the trees, which could be pried off for their meat. However, there were many mosquitoes in the mangrove forest, and the oysters’ meat was small, not as plump as those from Pearl Island. Zhao Cheng Lei didn’t plan to take Jiang Xia there.
It was rare to find so many belt clams, and Zhao Cheng Lei was digging enthusiastically.
Jiang Xia loved eating them.
If they couldn’t finish them, they could dry them and take them to Capital City to enjoy slowly.
Jiang Xia spotted a mantis shrimp’s burrow.
She stomped on it with her foot.
Water spurted out from another hole.
After a few stomps, a mantis shrimp shot out from the other hole.
The mantis shrimp’s shell could easily injure a hand, so Zhao Cheng Lei grabbed it effortlessly.
Seeing that the mantis shrimp had roe, Zhao Cheng Lei said, "Keep stomping, there should be another one in the burrow."
Jiang Xia continued stomping, but nothing came out.
Zhao Cheng Lei then dug open the burrow and reached in, sure enough catching another mantis shrimp.
Tian Cai Hua tugged at Zhou Chengxin and followed close to Jiang Xia and Zhao Cheng Lei.
She didn’t want to go anywhere else!
Only by staying with Jiang Xia would she have a big harvest.
Zhou Chengxin was also fully immersed in digging for belt clams.
Belt clams were delicious and quite valuable.
If they couldn’t finish them, they could dry the scallop columns from the belt clams.
A handful of these in porridge, steamed eggs, noodles, or soup would make them incredibly delicious.
After a while, more and more people started to appear, coming in batches.
But it didn’t matter; everyone was busy picking their own.
Tian Cai Hua couldn’t help but glance at Jiang Xia whenever she bent down to pick something.
"What are you here for, anyway? To gather seafood or something else?"
Zhou Chengxin couldn’t help but ask.
In just a few minutes, she had looked at Jiang Xia dozens of times!
He had only dug up a few belt clams.
Luckily, she wasn’t looking at his fourth brother.
Otherwise, he would have been suspicious!
"Shut up and go away!"
Tian Cai Hua was puzzled when she saw that Jiang Xia was only picking snails!
Something wasn’t right!
Xia Xia, blessed by the god of wealth, shouldn’t only be picking small snails and shrimp, right?
She didn’t believe it!
Absolutely not!
"Zhao Cheng Lei, come over here", Jiang Xia suddenly called out.
Tian Cai Hua quickly ran over.
Here she comes!
