Chapter 61: Sorry, Brutish Men Don't Understand These Circuitous Words
Chapter 61: Sorry, Brutish Men Don't Understand These Circuitous Words
Ivan and the others remained silent, but it didn't do much good. Instead, more students tried to squeeze over.
The noisy and crowded situation made a few professors at the staff table uneasy. Snape pulled out his Wand, pointed it at his throat, and cast a Sonorus Charm before speaking.
"Quiet! Everyone, back to your seats!"
Snape's deep voice, amplified by the Sonorus Charm, thundered through the Great Hall, echoing continuously.
The noisy Great Hall fell silent as if someone had pressed a pause button. The young wizards who had surrounded Ivan ran back to their seats as fast as they could.
Ivan even saw a Slytherin student fall to the ground halfway, getting trampled by others, but still managed to get up quickly, tears streaming down his face. This showed how deeply Snape's authority had been ingrained.
Snape seemed quite satisfied. He then turned to Harry.
"Potter, if you're planning to fabricate some lies to draw attention, get out now!"
Harry trembled with anger. He felt that if he knew the Killing Curse Hermione had mentioned, he might have cast it at Snape's face. He hadn't said a single word since entering!
Hermione and Ron were also indignant. Having already suffered a lot before, they didn't choose to stand up and argue loudly this time.
Ivan was used to Snape's sharp tongue and even found it odd that there was no routine point deduction.
After calming down and reflecting, Ivan faintly detected a warning in Snape's words. He wondered why this stubborn man would remind them not to reveal any information in such a harsh manner.
Clearly, Snape should know that Harry, the brutish man, wouldn't understand and it would serve no purpose.
Regardless, under Snape's pressure, things had finally quieted down. Only occasional whispers could be heard.
At the same time, Ivan noticed that the faces of the other professors clearly showed concern. Only Snape silently returned to his seat, his gaze fixed on a corner of the staff table, his expression unreadable.
Ivan followed Snape's gaze.
Sure enough, Quirrell's seat on the staff table was empty. Ivan guessed that after this serious injury, Quirrell probably wouldn't return.
Since Quirrell was absent, he would undoubtedly be the prime suspect in the attack on Hagrid. Unless Voldemort had lost his mind, he wouldn't let Quirrell turn himself in, as Quirrell couldn't withstand an investigation.
What surprised Ivan was the giant eagle statue on the platform, where a translucent Phoenix, glowing with a blue aura, was perched!
"Are there blue Phoenixes?" Harry, who had also noticed, couldn't help but ask in a low voice.
He found it incredibly beautiful, even more so than the Phoenix he had seen in the headmaster's office. Just looking at it calmed his agitated mind.
"That's Professor Dumbledore's Patronus!" Ivan said.
Ivan, who had read the original work, knew very well that Dumbledore's Patronus was different from others and could serve as a medium to transmit messages. The presence of the Patronus here meant that Dumbledore's eyes were always on this place.
This also made Ivan understand why Professor Mcgonagall hadn't returned yet, but the other professors had already made preparations and gathered all the students in the Great Hall.
Clearly, this was the work of the Patronus.
"What's a Patronus, again?" Harry felt like he had returned to his first day at school, where he knew very little about anything.
"A Patronus is summoned by the advanced charm Expecto Patronum. It is formed from the caster's happy memories and is generally used to fight Dementors", Ivan explained.
Harry opened his mouth to ask what a Dementor was, but Ivan, who had anticipated this, preemptively explained, also diverting the attention of the others.
"A Dementor is a very dangerous creature. It somewhat resembles what Muggles call the Grim Reaper, with a decaying, cold body that feeds on happiness."
Ivan's words indeed drew the attention of the young wizards around him. After all, Expecto Patronum was an advanced spell, and even older students might not have mastered it.
As for Dementors, many had never even heard of them, so they temporarily forgot about the dragon and listened curiously to Ivan's story.
Just a few minutes into Ivan's explanation, Professor Mcgonagall emerged from a side door of the hall, looking a bit more relaxed than before, but still with a furrowed brow. Several professors gathered around to ask about the situation.
Because of the distance, Ivan couldn't hear what they were saying. As he was guessing, he saw the blue Phoenix on the eagle statue gradually become translucent and finally dissolve into light points, disappearing.
At the same time, the closed hall doors were reopened, and Dumbledore's figure appeared before everyone. Unlike his usual kind and humorous demeanor, his face now carried a heavy expression, which made the whispers among the young wizards at the House tables grow quieter.
Walking to the stage, Dumbledore's gaze paused for a moment on the empty seat representing Quirrell, then he cleared his throat and said,
"The reason I have gathered you all here at this time is to announce something important."
Dumbledore's eyes scanned the room, and once he saw that the young wizards were all paying attention and not distracted, he continued,
"Our gamekeeper, Rubeus Hagrid, was attacked by an unknown person while patrolling the Forbidden Forest today. Although he is not in mortal danger, we have not yet found the attacker."
"From today onwards, the school will be under full lockdown. No one is allowed to leave the castle without permission. I will arrange for available professors to patrol the castle regularly until the holidays or until the attacker is caught!" Dumbledore's tone was very serious, and everyone could tell he was not joking.
Ivan's face showed disappointment. He hadn't expected that Dumbledore's personal efforts this time had failed to find Quirrell's trail. After this, it would be much harder to track him down.
The young wizards in the audience began to murmur softly, and Dumbledore had to use a voice amplifier to be heard.
"Besides these disheartening events, I also need to award extra points to a few individuals."
