Chapter 61: Neo Doma
Chapter 61: Neo Doma
The thief, Kis, left with a whistle.
"So you went to the Duel Monster world?"
A few minutes later, at the ruins, Kaiba Mokuba looked at You Xuan in surprise.
After winning the duel against Kis, the Orichalcos' barrier immediately contracted, sucking away the thief's soul. Then, with a dizzying spin, You Xuan quickly found himself back at the ruins, letting out a sigh of relief as he landed.
He made it back safely. It had been a close call, but fortunately, his quick reflexes had allowed him to snatch the duel disk from Kis' hand just before being transported away. He couldn't help but admire his own instinctive speed; if he had hesitated for even a moment, he might not have been able to secure the duel disk in time, which would have been a huge loss.
Mokuba had also rushed over personally upon hearing about the situation at the ruins.
"It seems so," You Xuan replied.
"And you encountered people from Neo Doma?" Mokuba asked.
"So that's what they're called," You Xuan said, stroking his chin. "Is there any connection to the previous Doma organization?"
Mokuba explained, "We haven't found any direct links so far, but we know they also use the 'Orichalcos' barrier' and hunt duelists' souls through duels."
You Xuan nodded in understanding. "So, that's who Kaiba Corporation has been investigating. No wonder he took it so seriously."
Eight years ago, Kaiba had personally experienced the power of the Doma organization and witnessed the might of the Orichalcos God. Now that the Three Gods had departed, Kaiba would be the main defense should that evil god awaken again.
Moreover, even setting that aside, this would undoubtedly be a significant event in Kaiba's life as a duelist—a hurdle he wouldn't easily forget.
Years ago, when facing the leader of the Doma organization, Dartz, Kaiba had reluctantly teamed up with his old rival, Yugi Muto. Despite their combined efforts, they had still lost the duel and nearly had their souls devoured by the Orichalcos God. It was only due to Yugi's quick thinking and card-printing skills that they had narrowly turned the tables and emerged victorious.
In the end, it was Yugi who had saved the day and vanquished Doma. Now that Atem was gone, Kaiba wouldn't pass up the chance to confront the Orichalcos God again and settle the score.
"So, the 'Judge' that Kaiba mentioned is the leader of Neo Doma? Is it Dartz?" You Xuan probed.
Mokuba shook his head. "Their identity is unknown, but we only know this codename. However, I don't think it's him. It's someone else who has somehow unsealed the power of the Orichalcos that was sealed by Yugi—I mean, the Pharaoh."
You Xuan tried to recall the plot of Duel Monsters. Atem had used his "heart's vessel" to seal away the Orichalcos God, who represented the world's dark will. Dartz, seeing that the situation was hopeless, had disappeared along with the ancient Atlantis ruins beneath the sea. Although he seemed to have exited the story, he hadn't actually died, leaving open the possibility of his return.
"Even Kis has joined Neo Doma, and now they're attacking the Duel Monster world," Mokuba said. "I can't believe you managed to beat him."
You Xuan nodded gravely. "Yes, it was extremely close. I was fortunate to win in the end. Thinking back, I believe my deck could use some strengthening. If I had more rare cards—"
Mokuba scratched his head. "But I already showed you all the cards we have in stock at the company's local branch. Oh, right! Since you're already a student at the Duel Academy, I can let you take a look at 'that' without breaking any rules."
"Huh?" You Xuan was taken aback.
"It's the newest powerful rare card that the company has just finished developing. It hasn't been released yet.
Chapter 61: Neo Doma
"We were planning to transport them to Duel Academy anyway," Jiong Ping replied with a smile. "But this batch has a limited quantity, and by the time they reach the academy, they'll probably be in high demand. It would be impressive if you manage to get your hands on a pack or two. Since you're also a student there, giving you priority won't violate any rules."
The powerful rare cards intended for Duel Academy must be...
You Xuan immediately recalled the opening arc of the GX anime.
There was an episode where not long after the start of the school year, a navy fleet sailed towards the academy island, escorted by fighter jets in the sky. The captain had a grim expression, holding a briefcase with the Kaiba Corporation logo, insisting that he "must deliver this safely."
You Xuan's first reaction at the time was that it was too ridiculous—an entire fleet and fighter jets escorting a briefcase of cards.
But then, upon further reflection, it seemed even more absurd. Because if some expert duelist did target that briefcase, the fleet and fighter jets seemed utterly useless.
After all, no matter how powerful an aircraft carrier's cannons are, they can't possibly outgun a skilled duelist, can they?
However, no students ended up buying those cards because Professor Crowler swooped in and bought them all before class ended. He then gave the rare cards to Chazz Princeton, asking him to use this new deck to discipline the underperforming Jaden Yuki.
Chazz's famous VWXYZ series originated from that incident.
Remembering this, You Xuan's eyes lit up.
Chazz's VWXYZ series was quite formidable in this environment. In the anime, Chazz showcased several powerful support cards that never made it into physical cards, such as the Continuous Magic Card, "Different Dimension Vault," which seemed like a prototype for the powerful new card, "Ally Vault," released over a decade later in the physical card game as part of the VWXYZ series.
While the anime-exclusive VWXYZ cards might not be as strong as their physical counterparts, enhanced by KCC Corporation years later, they were still quite prominent in this era.
As for Chazz, whose deck was intercepted...
Well, that wasn't You Xuan's concern.
This series was rare, but not as rare as some signature cards of certain characters. In the anime, when Chazz drifted to the Northern School of Duel Academy after a shipwreck, his original deck was damaged and unusable, so he had to hastily assemble a new one.
Therefore, theoretically, the VWXYZ deck given to him by Crowler should have been destroyed.
Indeed, for a while, Chazz didn't use this series, but later in the story, he suddenly brought out this deck again. So, either he didn't bring this deck with him when he initially left the academy, or he later used his massive wealth to buy a new one.
"Then I'll let you know when the cards arrive in a couple of days," Jiong Ping said with a smile.
"Thanks."
"No problem, don't mention it. Instead, you should focus on worrying about the upcoming tournament," Jiong Ping chuckled. "Your brother would be happy if you can get stronger quickly. He might get angry if you get defeated in a few moves during the tournament."
You Xuan: "..."
The mere mention of it made him feel the pressure.
Indeed, while there was technically no requirement for him to win, losing badly might upset the CEO.
"Oh, right," Jiong Ping continued. "The leader of the research group said they have some questions for you."
"Research group?"
"Yeah, the team in charge of researching the ruins. Chaos Soldier development has hit a bottleneck in the academic world for a long time. The leader thinks this is a great opportunity. Who knows, you might become the first duelist to assist in developing a new power for the Chaos Soldiers."
