Chapter 61: Garlic Wuxiang Chronicles (8)
Inside the drawer were two sheets of paper—clearly system-provided clues. Feng Bu Jue unfolded the first one. Scrawled in messy handwriting were three lines of hints. The first line read "Jmmjaod", the second "1/4F", and the third "3/4F."
Feng Bu Jue scoffed at the sight. "Hmph… How predictable."
The second sheet was more detailed—a printed document with neatly typed text describing the virus.
Firstly, the virus’s codename was indeed "Z." Since the scenario’s opening narration had mentioned this name in the description of Blood Wolf Zombies, it seemed the monsters roaming the streets and the infected researchers were all afflicted by the same virus. Why they’d mutated into different types of zombies remained a mystery.
Secondly, players had less than three hours to counter the infection after contracting it. The document stated: Symptoms resembling influenza—high fever—appear within three hours of infection, followed by severe dementia in later stages. This explained why Feng Bu Jue was now drenched in cold sweat and feeling weak in his limbs. Obviously, the system couldn’t simulate "severe dementia" as a physical symptom, so once the virus affected the brain, the player would be deemed dead and expelled from the scenario.
Next came a detailed account of the infection’s mutation effects—sporadic cell necrosis causing localized gangrene, increased oxygen retention in red blood cells slowing circulation but enhancing muscle endurance and strength, and severely diminished cognition driving the infected to consume living flesh. Finally, a note: Fully transformed hosts require extreme cranial trauma to neutralize.
Feng Bu Jue muttered after reading, "So it’s basically 008… But wait—this scenario actually has an antitoxin serum?" His eyes drifted to the final section detailing the serum.
The document read: Experiments show the antitoxin serum isn’t universally effective. Out of 390 trials across genders, ages, blood types, and ethnicities, 154 subjects achieved immunity or virus neutralization post-injection. Success rate: approximately 39.48%. No clear pattern has yet been identified to predict efficacy.
Feng Bu Jue’s mood darkened. Given his luck, the failure probability was practically guaranteed. Even if he found the serum, he’d only have a 40% chance of curing the disease. Otherwise, he’d have just two hours left—scant time to complete the scenario. His best contribution would be locating the serum and passing it to his teammates.
Speaking of teammates… When he’d heard of Jibu Shao Ye and Xiao Ming’s deaths in the corridor earlier, he’d realized this scenario was far more dangerous than it seemed. Their deaths baffled him—they weren’t the reckless type to abandon the gun shop. If they’d died so quickly, they must’ve encountered an extremely powerful monster right outside the shop.
But how could such a creature exist in an area unrelated to the main quest? Even if Blood Wolf Zombies grew stronger at night, how could they overwhelm two players armed with submachine guns in mere seconds?
Then there was Pan Feng and Hua Xiong, who’d been with Wang Tan Zhi. Their movements seemed suspicious. Judging from the current situation, they’d stormed the building with Xiao Tan but hadn’t entered this underground facility—choosing another route instead. Why? The first-floor lobby had a massive sign clearly stating the main quest required rescuing a "Doctor." Other floors were labeled with random departments or "Office Area." Who would go upstairs instead?
