Chapter 61: Conflict
Chapter 61: Conflict
When Kyle emerged from the Headmaster's Office, he held a bottle of Mana Suppressant Potion and a feather in his hand.
A warm Phoenix tail feather, freshly plucked.
Fenix had given it to Kyle as a gift when he saw that Kyle was about to leave.
Exchanging a Bellflower for a fresh Phoenix tail feather, Kyle not only broke even but also came out ahead.
What a decent Phoenix.
After leaving the eighth floor, Kyle hurried towards the Quidditch pitch.
However, when he arrived, he saw a group of badgers carrying Cedric, rushing anxiously towards the Hospital Wing.
At the same time, they were cursing non-stop:
"The Slytherins are a bunch of shameless losers!"
"Their rude and dirty tactics! They don't deserve to play Quidditch!"
"The Slytherin team should be disqualified!"
Cedric, being carried by the badgers, was holding his head with one hand and clutching his right leg with the other, his expression filled with pain.
Seeing this, Kyle quickly followed.
From the badgers' conversation, it wasn't hard to guess that Cedric had been injured, and it was the Slytherin players who were responsible.
In the crowd, Kyle found Ryan and Michael. He walked over and patted one of them on the shoulder, asking, "What happened on the pitch?"
Ryan was startled and turned around in surprise. "Kyle... Where were you just now? Why are you only here now?"
"The Headmaster called me to his office," Kyle explained briefly, then asked again, "Never mind me, how's Cedric?"
At this, Ryan's face turned red with anger. "It's all because of those shameless Slytherins! You don't know, Cedric was just about to catch the Snitch, he was so close...
But the Slytherin captain took advantage of Cedric's focus on the Snitch and punched him in the head, knocking him right off his broomstick!"
"That's right," Michael said, equally furious. "Do you know what his excuse was? That despicable guy told Madam Hooch that he mistook Cedric's head for a Bludger!
That rude idiot, an underdeveloped gorilla! He doesn't deserve to participate in this kind of event; he should be sent off the pitch!"
"This isn't football, Michael," Ryan reminded him. "In Quidditch, you can't send a player off the pitch..."
Michael stiffened his neck and said, "But you can't just give Hufflepuff a free hit! That's not fair!"
Through Ryan and Michael's explanations, Kyle quickly understood what had happened.
Just as he had suspected.
When they can't win in a normal situation, this is so typical of Slytherin.
Soon, the group arrived at the Hospital Wing.
"Merlin's beard, what happened here!"
Madam Pomfrey looked very angry. "His nasal bone is fractured, and his right leg is completely broken. I don't understand why Hogwarts insists on holding such a dangerous competition."
"Every year, there are students sent here, every single year..."
Madam Pomfrey fixed Cedric's broken leg in a second, then shooed everyone out.
However, she asked Kyle to stay.
The newly fixed bones couldn't be moved yet, so Cedric needed someone to take care of him. There were other patients in the Hospital Wing, and Madam Pomfrey couldn't handle it all by herself.
Out of everyone, Madam Pomfrey only vaguely remembered Kyle, so the task naturally fell to him.
Even as she closed the door, she kept clicking her tongue, complaining about how dangerous the sport was and how incompetent the teachers were.
Kyle sat by Cedric's bedside, pouring him a glass of water, "How are you feeling?"
"My leg still hurts a bit," Cedric moved his shoulder and said, "But it's much better now."
Mrs. Pomfrey's abilities were naturally exceptional. If Cedric had broken his arm instead of his leg, he would probably be well enough to be discharged by now.
"It's a pity we missed the match. We were leading by thirty points."
Cedric leaned against the pillow, sighing dejectedly, "If only I had paid more attention to my surroundings at that moment."
"It's okay. It's just one match, and the outcome doesn't matter." Kyle comforted him, "Besides, foul play is a Slytherin tradition. Even if you had avoided them this time, they would have found trouble with you later. If you kept hiding from them, you could forget about catching the Golden Snitch."
"That's true." Cedric scratched his hair in distress, "Then what about the future matches?"
The Hufflepuff and Slytherin matches were not limited to just one encounter; under normal circumstances, they would meet at least three more times.
Cedric certainly didn't want to be hospitalized three more times.
"Don't worry," Kyle said after a moment of thought, "Just focus on recovering, and leave the rest to me."
"Are you planning to join the Quidditch team?" Cedric asked in surprise, "What position do you want to play? Are you thinking of becoming a Beater?"
"You're overthinking it." Kyle shrugged, "The matches have already started. Unless a player voluntarily withdraws, there's no way I can join the team now."
The rules regarding Quidditch at Hogwarts were very clear. Each house had only one chance to recruit new players, and it was limited to the second week after the start of the school year.
However, in most cases, the captains of each house would select their players during the first weekend of the first week, and then submit the names to Madam Hooch during the second week as required.
This way, new players would have three more opportunities for group training, and the professors wouldn't bother with such minor matters.
But after the second week, Madam Hooch wouldn't approve of adding new players unless there was a player withdrawal and the team lacked sufficient members.
However, this situation generally didn't occur, as withdrawals were not common.
Only in cases like withdrawal due to physical conditions, leaving school, or other unavoidable reasons that prevented participation in Quidditch matches, would the teams be allowed to make mid-season changes.
Otherwise, it was out of the question.
Madam Hooch was very firm in her stance on this matter.
"So, you said leave it to you... wait, you're not planning to cause trouble for Slytherin, are you?"
Cedric seemed to suddenly realize something and spoke with a serious expression, "You mustn't do anything that violates school rules. I've only broken a leg; it's not that serious.
Moreover, you're only in your first year, and most of Slytherin's players are in their third year or above. They would love for you to cause them trouble.
And Professor Snape wouldn't..."
"Hold on a moment."
Seeing Cedric's increasingly far-fetched statements, Kyle interrupted him, raising an eyebrow, "What do you mean by first year and third year? You don't think I'm going to challenge them to a duel, do you?"
"Huh? Am I not?" Cedric's expression froze.
"You wish." Kyle gave him a disdainful look, "I think it's necessary to call Mrs. Pomfrey back to check on your head."
