Chapter 609: Me, Joker (7)
Chapter 609: Me, Joker (7)
Qiao Yi had an intimate knowledge of the sewer’s layout. As they made their way toward the police station, he continuously used a Gameboy-shaped device in his hand for scouting, ensuring no ambush lay ahead.
Meanwhile, Maya monitored ground-level video signals through another handheld surveillance device. She was surprised to discover that not only the “Poison Ivy” and “Joker Girl” beside her, but even “Two-Face” and “Joker” had slipped free of The_Bruce’s surveillance…
At this moment, all the city’s giant screens were playing back a speech recorded long ago by Gordon—a message meant to calm public fears. Meanwhile, the four “Villains” who had yet to be executed had vanished from sight, their whereabouts unknown…
For those who placed their faith in Batman, this was a night that truly deserved the title “Horror.”
“It seems we’re here,” Xiao Ling suddenly slowed her pace after turning a waterway corner, glancing back.
“Yep, that manhole cover there—parking lot’s right above it,” Qiao Yi pointed at an iron ladder on the wall ahead. His expression shifted to one of admiration: “Oh, Ms. Your memory’s really good. You only looked at the map once, and you still didn’t lead us astray…”
“Not a big deal,” Xiao Ling replied casually before asking, “Where are Dal and the others?”
“Last signal was five minutes ago,” Maya answered. “They should be hiding in the parking lot, ready to cover us.”
“Alright… then…” Xiao Ling hadn’t finished speaking when—
Boom—
A deafening explosion echoed from above.
“What’s happening?!” Maya’s expression tightened.
“This explosion doesn’t sound promising…” Qiao Yi was relatively calm, though his face grew significantly graver.
Hrrr— Another metallic scraping sound rang out.
Then, the manhole cover above was flung open. A stocky figure quickly climbed down.
“Dal?” Qiao Yi recognized his companion instantly by his back and hairstyle.
“Huh? Oh! Qiao Yi!” Dal turned his head, panic evident, then slid down the ladder. “Qiao Yi! We’re in trouble!” He rushed over, breathless and disheveled. “We’ve been spotted by the Robin Squad! These bastards came prepared—with Rpgs, and—hey! Wait, did you rescue another person?” He only now noticed Harley Quinn among the group.
“Are there any survivors left?” Ruo Yu suddenly asked.
Dal shook his head. “No one else… Just me.”
Without another word, Ruo Yu strode forward. Her momentum was overwhelming, forcing Dal to instinctively step aside.
“Thirty seconds,” Ruo Yu said calmly as she reached the stairs. Then, with a light step, she leapt upward, bursting through the circular opening above.
“What did she mean?” Qiao Yi asked, puzzled.
“Uh… before that…” Maya’s eyes widened. “How did she jump that high?!”
Xiao Ling smiled. “She’s already up there. You’ll have to ask her yourself.”
Meanwhile, aboveground…
“Don’t move!” “Hands up!”
The moment Ruo Yu emerged, shouts erupted from all directions.
Unfazed, she twisted midair, activating her Soul Intent—[Limit Efficiency].
In that instant, time itself seemed to slow to a crawl in Li Ruoyu’s eyes.
In this state, all her stats were calibrated to their theoretical limits. Thus, to her, nearly all living beings in the same dimension appeared frozen in place.
“Fourteen… no, fifteen people,” Li Ruoyu’s gaze swept like a gale, her thoughts accelerated by Soul Intent. “One Rpg, four submachine guns, four shotguns, six rifles with unknown performance specs. Everyone’s wearing police uniforms with the [R] emblem and combat helmets. Just like those soldiers in the hovercrafts—they’re undoubtedly The_Bruce’s men…”
Confirming this information took her only one second. A blink for others, but for her, it was ample time.
In that second, she identified the enemy’s identity, their numbers, weapons, and positions. She even took a moment to scan the corpses of the rebels on the ground, ensuring no allies remained alive nearby before intervening.
[Falling Petals Dispersal]
Cold eyes, dazzling techniques.
[Sealed Sainthood]—a sword beam blazed through the night sky. Sword qi fragmented into countless sakura-red shards, scattering like falling petals.
Light erupted, sharp and merciless. Blood rained like a dense, shadowy mist.
Skills with a ten-meter radius became a slaughter zone three times larger under Ruo Yu’s Soul Intent.
Not a single soul remained standing beneath her swordfall.
Thirty seconds later, when Xiao Ling emerged from the sewer, the battle in the parking lot had already ended.
Qiao Yi, Dal, and Maya could hardly believe their eyes. Their Resistance Organization had struggled for months to kill this many Robin Squad soldiers, yet this “Harley Quinn” had done it in thirty seconds.
“God, what happened here?” Dal stared at the corpses, stunned. “How was this even possible?”
“It looks like… they stood in some kind of blade storm for a few seconds,” Qiao Yi mused, crouching beside a body.
“They were already here, huh…” Ruo Yu ignored their chatter, gazing at the police station’s rooftop.
Following her gaze, the group saw two figures peering over the rooftop’s edge.
“Hi~” Xiao Tan, upon realizing he’d been spotted, casually waved at the five below.
To Xiao Ling and Ruo Yu, Xiao Tan looked unchanged. But to the three Resistance members, he was the horrifying Two-Face. That overly friendly greeting felt jarringly out of place.
Two seconds later, Feng Bu Jue, standing beside Xiao Tan, patted his shoulder and exchanged a glance. Xiao Tan nodded, and the two leapt from the rooftop, descending like falling stars into the parking lot.
“What_the_hell,” Qiao Yi muttered a curse as he watched the two plummet from five stories up (the police station was taller than average buildings—seven stories if it were a residential home) and land unscathed.
“You’re Qiao Yi, right?” Feng Bu Jue approached, eyeing him.
“Yes.” Qiao Yi nodded. “How do you know my name?”
“You must be Maya?” Feng Bu Jue ignored the question, turning to Maya instead.
Maya hesitated but nodded.
“Good. Let me guess…” Feng Bu Jue finally fixed his gaze on Dal. “You’re Dal, then?”
“Right.” Dal replied. “Listen, what’s your deal?”
“You don’t need to know anymore. But I have a question for you…” Feng Bu Jue stepped forward until he stood before Dal.
Bang! A gunshot cracked.
No one expected Feng Bu Jue’s next move—pulling a handgun from his pocket, raising his arm, and firing point-blank at Dal’s forehead.
The action was seamless—swift, precise, fluid, elegant, without a trace of mercy or hesitation.
As Dal fell backward, eyes wide in death, Feng Bu Jue continued his earlier sentence: “…Why did you betray us?”
“Hmm…” Xiao Tan, watching the scene, deadpanned, “The legendary ‘shoot first, ask questions later’ approach…”
“OH! God!” Qiao Yi roared, pulling a knife from his pocket and charging at Feng Bu Jue. “You bastard! What have you done!”
Ping—
Before Qiao Yi could take two steps, his knife was knocked from his hand.
He didn’t even see what happened—only a blur, a numb wrist, and his body staggering sideways, nearly falling. When he regained his senses, he saw the “Joker Girl” already standing before Joker, longsword raised, eyes cold as Blade Guild steel.
“You… you…” Qiao Yi stammered, fury and shock warring in his voice.
“She has her reasons,” Ruo Yu said, lowering her sword as the opponent didn’t charge again.
Of course… the statement sounded absurdly unreasonable.
“Qiao Yi. Colin.” Feng Bu Jue stepped past Ruo Yu, slowly approaching Qiao Yi. “You’re a smart man. Calm down and think—what really happened in the parking lot?”
Swallowing his rage, Qiao Yi recalled the earlier chaos.
After ten seconds, his expression shifted. Looking at Feng Bu Jue, he said, “Dal… he was a spy…”
“Good,” Feng Bu Jue laughed. “If you couldn’t see that obvious truth, there’d be no point continuing.”
“He…” Qiao Yi pressed a hand to his forehead, grief and regret etched on his face. “He was my friend… why…”
“Because he wasn’t strong enough to stay loyal,” Feng Bu Jue interrupted. “Dal was a coward—something you know better than anyone. Someone like him, once secretly captured by The_Bruce’s men, would betray us instantly. They wouldn’t even need to torture him—he’d kneel to Batman willingly.” He paused. “Believe me or not, I’ll tell you this—minutes ago, my companion and I saw him lead your rebel friends here, then sneak off alone under the guise of scouting to signal the Robin Squad waiting nearby.”
“Oh… I see…” Xiao Ling picked up the thread, thinking aloud. “When we met him, Dal’s panic wasn’t from being chased by Robin troops in the parking lot—it was because he suddenly heard Qiao Yi’s voice while climbing the ladder. I’d guess he originally planned to come down, find us, and lure us all into the parking lot. But he didn’t expect us to arrive so quickly, bumping into him at the entrance. With the Rpg explosion sound coming from above, he couldn’t think of a good excuse to trick us up there, so he had to change plans and claimed he’d escaped an ambush alone.”
“Unbelievable…” Maya sighed. “Dal was one of the earliest members to join the Organization… I thought…”
“Enough. Dwelling on it won’t help,” Feng Bu Jue shrugged. Turning to Qiao Yi, he added, “Mr. Colin, we need to talk.” He holstered his handgun, approaching. “I know you’re suspicious right now… Rest assured. I’ll satisfy your curiosity as much as I can.”
What the Npcs didn’t know was that the moment Qiao Yi emerged from the sewer and entered Feng Bu Jue’s sight, both Feng Bu Jue and Xiao Tan had received hidden tasks. From that moment, Feng Bu Jue had already devised a complete game-clearing plan in his mind. Every step he took now was purposeful.
“In any case, please follow us to the rooftop for now,” Feng Bu Jue said, extending his right hand to grasp Qiao Yi’s arm…
