Chapter 609: Look How Hungry the Child Is
Chapter 609: Look How Hungry the Child Is
Lu Chen never expected that the once mediocre and unremarkable loose cultivator would one day become a sword genius.
With the fifth-grade treasure, the Tongming Jianxin, and through cultivating two fifth-grade Sword Grasses, he finally created these two fifth-grade sword techniques by relying on his special ability to research and comprehend the sword intent of spiritual plants.
"Once I perfect them, the Peacock Mingwang Sword will be able to unleash its full potential."
He patted the golden giant sword at his waist and continued to inspect the spirit fields.
"Before leaving the sect, the fourth-grade spirit plants I obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Xuanchong Vine, the Dihuo Xinlian, and the Five Elements Fruit, have all entered the maturity stage."
Lu Chen looked at the many spirit plants in the spirit fields that were thriving, and he felt a sense of accomplishment.
"I wonder if I can still get treasures like the Taoist Pouch and the Five Elements Array from my time in the Light Group."
After taking care of all the spirit plants, he prepared and decided to go to Lei Hai to collect some spirit thunders. By the way, he wanted to see if he could find out from Lei Hu Beast where there were a lot of spirit thunders.
Before leaving, he opened the two fifth-grade arrays, the Five Elements Array and the Yunzhu Arrow Array, and instructed the grass puppet with four arrow vines to protect the spirit fields well. Then, he rode the Wind and Thunder Sword and rushed to Lei Hai at full speed.
When he arrived at the entrance of Thunder Ocean, he stopped and took out the Thunderfire Decree.
Just as he was about to show it to the Tianxing Cave cultivator guarding the passage, suddenly, a voice came from not far away.
"Brother Lu?! What a coincidence to meet you here."
There was a hint of surprise in the voice.
Lu Chen looked in the direction of the sound and saw a honest-looking young cultivator walking towards him.
Behind him were three other cultivators, all of whom had at least the cultivation base of the later stage of building foundations.
"It's Brother Zhang! It's quite a coincidence indeed."
A smile appeared on Lu Chen's lips. This honest young man was named Zhang Zhizong, and he had the cultivation base of the later stage of building foundations. His cave abode was less than a hundred miles away, and the two had met a few times, so they were somewhat familiar with each other.
"So, Brother Lu is also planning to enter Lei Hai to explore the secret realm?"
The honest young man introduced Lu Chen to the other three cultivators and asked.
"What else would I be doing here if not to enter Lei Hai?"
Lu Chen complained in his heart, but he still maintained a smile on his face.
"Yes, I plan to explore Lei Hai and see if I can find some spirit thunders and spirit ores."
"However, I'm just a spirit plant cultivator with low cultivation. I only plan to stay in the outskirts and don't dare to go too deep."
He explained modestly.
"Then, Brother Lu, would you like to join us in exploring deeper into Lei Hai?"
The honest young man invited Lu Chen.
"The more people, the more strength we have. We have explored Lei Hai together several times, and we are somewhat trustworthy."
Upon hearing this, Lu Chen frowned slightly and hesitated for a moment before ultimately refusing, "Thank you, Brother Zhang, for your kind invitation. However, I'm not skilled in combat, and I only have a few self-preservation techniques. If I join your team abruptly, I'm afraid I'll only hold you back."
He spoke honestly.
"Alright, Brother Zhang, since this Brother Lu doesn't want to, let's not force him."
Just as Zhang Zhizong was about to continue persuading Lu Chen, a handsome young cultivator with a somewhat gloomy aura walked out from behind him. He glanced at Lu Chen and said, "Since that's the case, we won't force Brother Lu."
Seeing that the other three companions were indifferent, the honest young man also stopped insisting and bowed to Lu Chen, saying, "Then, Brother Lu, please take care."
He watched as the four of them entered the passage into Lei Hai.
Just before their figures disappeared from view, he transmitted a thought to the Cloud-Riding Lynx hidden within his Beast-Taming Token.
"Are you saying that one of them is tainted by an evil presence?"
"Roar..."
The Cloud-Riding Lynx lazily landed on the ground, its emerald eyes shimmering with an otherworldly light, a hint of familiarity in its low growl.
Following its guidance, Lu Chen turned his gaze toward the back of the gloomy-looking cultivator.
His eyes narrowed as a faint spiritual light veiled them.
With his Falsehood-Breaking Pupil Technique, he detected an anomaly in the young cultivator. A thin layer of dark qi clung to his body, and within it, vague and shadowy human faces appeared and merged as one.
Before he could get a clearer look, the group entered the Lei Hai passage.
"It is indeed related to an evil presence," Lu Chen thought to himself. "I can't tell if it's a parasitic or possessive evil spirit, or if he possesses an evil artifact or cultivates a sinister and toxic art."
However, Lu Chen didn't feel it had anything to do with him as long as they didn't cross paths within Lei Hai, and the group had no ill intentions toward him.
"If they try to harm me, the spirit fields in the underworld will need a large number of high-quality souls, flesh, and bones. Not a single bit will go to waste," he mused.
As for Zhang Zhizong, whom he had met a few times, Lu Chen chose not to voice his concerns. Firstly, their relationship wasn't close enough to warrant getting involved, and secondly, they were all part of the same group, so Zhang might already be aware of the gloomy youth's abnormality or could even be complicit.
Although Zhang had seemingly invited him to explore Lei Hai out of goodwill, Lu Chen knew appearances could be deceiving. Once inside a secret realm, even the deepest friendships could turn sour in the face of treasure, leading to murder and theft.
"Perhaps the invitation itself wasn't sincere," he thought.
Out of caution, Lu Chen circled the perimeter of Lei Hai before finally approaching the passage entrance.
After presenting the Thunderfire Decree to the Tianxing Cave cultivator guarding the passage, Lu Chen entered Lei Hai, where countless tiny streaks of lightning danced.
Unfazed by the constant rumble of thunder in his ears, Lu Chen gently rumbled his throat, emitting a sound identical to the thunder around him.
High above, the Void Nightmare flickered in and out of visibility within the lightning, sharing its vision with Lu Chen through the grayish-white eye protruding from his hand.
Moments later, he detected a familiar aura ahead, and a smile tugged at his lips.
After a few blinks, a silver-white wolf-like beast charged toward Lu Chen, accompanied by streaks of lightning.
It was the Lei Hu Beast that had been guarding the passage, demanding demon beast meat from passing cultivators.
It whimpered, its shadow flashing like lightning as it landed in front of Lu Chen, its round belly pressing against the ground, its eyes pleading.
"Look how hungry this child is," Lu Chen smiled, taking out a piece of demon beast meat from his storage bag and tossing it to the Lei Hu Beast.
Whenever he entered Lei Hai and encountered this beast, he would stop and feed it demon beast meat or spirit fruits, a habit he had developed as a spiritual herbologist.
On occasion, he would also come across the unusual Lei Hu Beast with traces of the Lei Yu bloodline, and he would treat it with the same kindness.
Over time, he had established a certain rapport with these two Lei Hu Beasts.
