Chapter 608: Metahuman Invasion (First Update)
Chapter 608: Metahuman Invasion (First Update)
Jerry, of course, had no objections to Hermione helping S.H.I.E.L.D., or rather, he didn't really care. What mattered to him was Hermione's magical prowess.
Expanding S.H.I.E.L.D.'s already large underground base by three or four times and replicating the complex isolation pods with the Duplication Spell showcased Hermione's true strength, which was already quite impressive.
But it was still not enough.
Jerry hoped that Hermione could break through to the Sorcerer level and achieve Immortality, just like him.
However, given the current pace of her strength improvement, it didn't seem too difficult. With his help and Hermione's diligent practice, she should be able to achieve it.
Perhaps in another two years, when her body fully matures, he could consider giving her the Wizard Enhancer.
With the Wizard Enhancer's assistance, it should take no more than a year, and by the time Hermione graduates at eighteen, she should be able to achieve Immortality, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
"Seems like the transformation into Metahumans isn't always so smooth!"
After touring the first underground level, Jerry noticed that most Metahumans looked mostly normal after their transformation.
However, a few Metahumans exhibited unique physical changes.
For example, one man had gills on the sides of his mouth, a woman's feet had turned into hooves, and there were others with horns, excessive hair growth, and spikes.
This made him grateful that Belle and little Charlie had only developed their powers without any visible physical changes.
Otherwise, he would have to put in some effort to help them return to normal.
Indeed, with Jerry's current strength, he wasn't helpless when it came to Metahuman transformations.
By bringing the transformed Metahumans into the ring world and using the time laws within, he could forcefully reverse the transformation and restore them to their original human form.
The ring world, now modified by his laws, had become almost entirely separate from the Main World, forming a Mini World, or a small dimension.
Though not fully complete, the laws within were entirely under his control.
However, forcefully reversing the time laws was a complex process, and he wouldn't bother with it for just anyone, such as the thousands of Metahumans currently isolated by S.H.I.E.L.D.
But Belle and Charlie were his family, and they deserved special treatment.
"You're right on time, Coulson. It seems S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't as clean as you thought."
After his tour, Jerry's eyes flickered, and he smiled at Coulson.
Coulson immediately understood Jerry's meaning and looked a bit embarrassed.
After all, after removing all the Hydra agents affiliated with Pierce, the number of true S.H.I.E.L.D. agents had drastically reduced to less than a tenth of the original.
To achieve comprehensive intelligence coverage across the entire Earth, a certain number of agents was necessary.
So, in the process of rebuilding S.H.I.E.L.D., Coulson initiated a new recruitment plan.
However, even the most rigorous recruitment and vetting process couldn't guarantee the complete removal of all agents with ulterior motives, a problem common to all large organizations.
From Jerry's tone, it was clear that some of Stephanie's Hydra agents had infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. and transmitted the information about the Metahumans being brought back.
However, it wasn't much of an issue. After bringing Hermione to this world, Jerry had already cast Obliviate on Earth.
So, apart from Coulson, Jemma, Fitz, and other friends he had known before, no one else in S.H.I.E.L.D. knew who Jerry and Hermione were.
The Hydra agents and Stephanie, among others, naturally had no idea that the famous Witch had arrived at S.H.I.E.L.D.
Otherwise, whether they would dare to come or not would be a different story.
"Director, someone has infiltrated the main control system from the inside. I've driven them out, but the main gate was just opened, and over a hundred enemies have breached the base and are now advancing here."
Fitz, holding his custom laptop, rushed over in a hurry.
S.H.I.E.L.D.'s control system had the world's most advanced network defense mechanisms. Unless they faced an unreasonable entity like Ultron or Vision, it was almost impossible to breach from the outside.
But if the attack came from the inside, it was a different story.
However, the intruder's skills were clearly subpar. If necessary, Fitz could have instantly expelled them from the system and regained control of the base.
But when he checked the logs after expelling the intruder, he discovered that the system had been breached when the S.H.I.E.L.D. gates were opened, allowing many armed enemies to invade.
Coulson glanced at Jerry, pondered for a moment, and then began giving rapid orders:
"All Metahuman team members and non-combatants gather in the basement level. The rest of the combat personnel, follow me to the main gate to eliminate the intruders!"
According to the information Jerry provided, the Hive had the ability to control all Metahumans. Therefore, the strongest Metahuman team couldn't assist, as they might be controlled by the Hive, causing more trouble.
"The people at the gate are just ordinary humans. Have May lead the team to handle them. The real enemies will arrive soon. Wait here!"
Seeing that Skye's Metahuman team and non-combatants like Jemma were all in place, Coulson was about to lead May and the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to the main gate to confront the enemies.
However, Jerry and Hermione, who were supposed to go with them, suddenly stopped and grabbed his shoulder.
"Alright!"
Although he didn't fully understand Jerry's intentions, Coulson trusted Jerry and followed his orders.
Sure enough, not long after the sound of intense gunfire outside, the empty metal floor of the basement level suddenly rippled, and four men and one woman emerged from the waves.
The woman was Malik's daughter, Stephanie, and one of the four men was emitting a unique Spatial Distortion.
Clearly, that man had used his Metahuman ability to bring Stephanie and the others through the ground, bypassing all the defense systems and directly arriving at the basement level.
"So those people at the gate were just a decoy!"
Seeing Stephanie and the others emerge from underground, Coulson finally understood that the earlier situation and the current firefight were all part of Stephanie's decoy plan.
It was to draw all of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s firepower to the main gate, allowing them to easily take control of the over a thousand Metahumans and S.H.I.E.L.D.'s strongest Metahuman team.
Thinking about this, Coulson couldn't help but feel a cold sweat on his forehead.
He had underestimated Stephanie, or rather, his thinking hadn't shifted to consider the unique abilities of Metahumans.
