Chapter 607: Lanchi and Hepburn's Date
Chapter 607: Lanchi and Hepburn's Date
The antique sofa before them undoubtedly resembled the one Lanchi and Hepburn had sat on before the disappearance of Chekel Manor, and the pair were all too familiar with it.
Chekel Manor Sofa
Category: Magical Tool
Grade: White (Common)
Attribute: Alchemy
Rank: 1
Effect: As a rural mansion of the Perlant Empire, Chekel Manor can be chosen as a venue for high-level negotiations and work breaks when more privacy and security are required. Its furniture is also of excellent quality.
Remarks: Gift from Shadow World to Dark Day Eclipse Demon Realm
"Why did they send us a sofa?" Lanchi asked, puzzled, pointing at the sofa. It was the first time he had received a gift from the Shadow World after playing it three times.
Hepburn shook her head, equally baffled.
"Do you need a sofa at your place?" Lanchi asked Hepburn.
His dormitory living room already had a sofa, and putting it on the balcony might cause it to be damaged by birds again. He preferred a spacious balcony, with just a wicker chair to lean on and read leisurely.
"I don't think there's anywhere to put it at the Duke's mansion," Hepburn mused. If she brought this sofa back, she would have to get rid of one of the existing sofas, but she was reluctant to part with the old furniture.
"This sofa is probably quite expensive, right? Can we move it to Boss Cat's restaurant instead?" Boss Cat perked up at the mention of the Chekel Manor sofa, feeling that it would fit the style of his restaurant perfectly.
"No problem," Lanchi replied. They could just move the sofa to Boss Cat's restaurant later.
As they finished collecting their spoils, Lanchi's mind suddenly flooded with memories of the weary days spent in the Sage's classroom, now that they were about to return to Icretia College, and the new school year had already begun for the second-years.
If possible, he would much rather spend every day doing community service around the school than attending lectures at the Sage's College.
Fortunately, by clearing this seventh-rank Shadow World, they had helped solve many problems for Professor Polaau, who would now have more time to teach. The upcoming semester would hardly require Lanchi to return to the Sage's College, and his daily classes would be handled by his exclusive mentor, Professor Polaau.
It was currently August, and there were some matters he wanted to discuss with Professor Polaau of the Magic Engineering College. He also needed to figure out how to turn the 'Shadow-woven Record of Kaliella' into a finished card. Additionally, Lanchi hadn't forgotten about Lorren, and he would help him resolve his remaining troubles. Then, Lanchi would be able to depart from his hometown at the South Vanettina Border and head to the southernmost Krei Empire on the South Continent.
"Hepburn, after some time, we'll be setting out to search for Duke Migaya's whereabouts, and this journey might be more dangerous than any we've undertaken before. Are you ready?" Lanchi asked, his gaze fixed on Hepburn.
Compared to when they had first made their pact, they had both grown much stronger and were no longer rookies who struggled to defeat a fifth-rank examiner.
After ascending to the sixth rank, Lanchi's already remarkable spirit had undergone significant growth once more, and his attributes such as magic power limit, magic recovery speed, and spell resistance had also improved considerably. Coupled with the Great Demon Race mark on his body, which increased his magic defense and reduced the effects of spells, sixth-rank and below magic spells had little effect on him.
However, the Krei Empire was an enormous entity, far larger than the Protoss Empire and the Aithailand Kingdom combined, making it the true powerhouse of the Southern Continent.
"No problem, I feel that I'm close to reaching the seventh rank and becoming a Seventh-rank Divine Officer soon." Hepburn clenched her fist, her eyes shining with determination.
During her time in the Northern Continent, she had trained diligently with the Ice Snow Witch, and after defeating this seventh-rank Shadow World, she had not only reached the sixth rank but was also just a step away from the seventh.
"Alright, let's move this sofa to Boss Cat's restaurant. It's been over a month since you last saw Tata, and he must be missing you a lot." Lanchi said, hands on his hips as he looked at the sofa. "Even though we successfully cleared this seventh-rank Shadow World, there might be some first-year juniors waiting outside the Void Gate Plaza to see the commotion. There will probably be quite a few reporters like Senior Luoweishi, so leaving the school might be a bit tricky."
He would have to plan their route carefully.
"Juniors..." Hepburn trailed off, lost in thought.
While clearing a seventh-rank Shadow World might seem like a big deal to the first-year students,
there was something even more important that she had remembered during this Shadow World.
Something she instinctively wanted to forget—
She had kissed Lanchi in front of everyone in this Shadow World.
Hepburn's cheeks flushed at the memory.
Just imagining all the Icretia students waiting outside the Shadow World to see the spectacle made her want to disappear!
"I don't want to go back," Hepburn murmured, gently tugging on Lanchi's sleeve, her voice filled with embarrassment.
Lanchi, who had been planning to leave, turned back to look at her, but he couldn't see her face as she lowered her head in apparent embarrassment.
"..."
Lanchi remained silent for a moment.
He turned back and walked to a spacious step in the middle of the stairs of Starry Sky Square, moving the sofa by himself.
Hepburn watched Lanchi's figure.
Her request was indeed too selfish, and Lanchi was so speechless that he could only move the sofa by himself.
Instead of returning to Icretia College, they would have to stay in this interim space.
"Since we have a sofa here, let's watch a movie," Lanchi suggested with a smile after adjusting the sofa.
"Huh?" Hepburn questioned, puzzled.
"Now is probably when most people will be around to see the spectacle. They must have calculated the time of our exit from the Shadow World. If we wait another two hours before leaving, it'll be lunchtime, and there should be fewer people around," Lanchi explained.
He took out the gem of Kaliella once more,
"This [Shadow-woven Record of Kaliella] possesses the properties of the highest-order recording crystal. Boss Cat has a magic device among his tools that can project its contents."
As Hepburn listened to Lanchi's words, she realized they were standing under a starry sky, with countless stars twinkling faintly and weaving the interim space of this Shadow World.
With a simple setup by Lanchi and Boss Cat, Starry Sky Square transformed into an open-air theater exclusively for the two of them.
"Well, Hepburn?" Lanchi asked, his hand resting on the sofa as he waited for her to join him.
"Thank you, Lanchi," Hepburn murmured with a smile, quickly walking over to sit by his side.
"In the future, let's go and watch more performances together," Hepburn whispered, as if not wanting to disturb the quiet before the movie started.
"No problem," Lanchi assured her.
"Meow, at a time like this, the male lead usually wouldn't have heard clearly, but you actually answered," Boss Cat complained, lying on the armrest of the sofa.
"What kind of deaf and mute romance movies have you been watching?" Lanchi retorted, looking at Boss Cat.
"By the way, what's recorded in Kaliella's gem should be the real Blood Moon Calamity era, right?" Hepburn asked for confirmation before the movie started.
"That's right," Lanchi replied, equally curious about the actual historical content recorded by Kaliella, as this Shadow World had already deviated significantly from the true historical events.
"Then, if Kaliella's recorded historical scene corresponds to the period of this seventh-rank Shadow World, wouldn't there be no witch corresponding to me, and only the Sun Child alone?" Hepburn asked, a hint of sadness in her eyes.
From the information gathered in the previous two Shadow Worlds, she already knew that the story began with the Sun Child's homeland, the Honing Empire, being infiltrated by the blood tribe. He, as the last member of the Empire's special forces, underwent a transformation surgery in the Imperial testing ground, becoming a pseudo-demon race. Along with his comrades, he traveled to the northern continent of the Demon World to infiltrate the demon race and become stronger.
In the Purgatory Corridor Academy in Purgatory City, Pasqual, the Sun Child met a similarly lonely half-demon witch. She wasn't well-received by the demon race, but with her kind heart, she quickly became friends with the Sun Child. After overcoming all the challenges in the academy, she chose to return to the human realm with the Sun Child. Correspondingly, during their time in the academy, the Sun Child also lost all his special forces companions from the Empire due to the pursuit of the blood tribe envoy, becoming the sole survivor.
Four years later, the Sun Child and the witch returned to the northern border of the Honing Empire, the Lichten Mountains, and became important members of the anti-blood tribe church. However, when they were invited to attend a crucial gathering at the Lichten Castle, they encountered betrayers within the church, leading to a desperate seven-day and seven-night slaughter. The Sun Child lost his dear friend, the werewolf prince, and also the witch who had accompanied him throughout his journey across the two continents.
Then, sixteen years later, corresponding to the timeline of the 'Dark Day Eclipse Demon Realm' in the third Shadow World, the now-lone Sun Child spent sixteen years climbing to the top of the Perlant Empire, only to face yet another challenge where he stood alone.
"That's possibly the case, but we don't know which specific day out of those forty-five days left a deep impression on Kaliella," Lanchi replied after some thought.
Starry Sky Square was engulfed in darkness, the only source of light coming from the simple magic projector that Boss Cat had taken out, which was quietly operating.
As the screen appeared, Lanchi and Hepburn turned their attention to the open-air giant screen at the other end of the square, pausing their conversation.
