Chapter 607: I Won't Let This Ship Be Disgraced!
Chapter 607: I Won't Let This Ship Be Disgraced!
"Finally down. The Sky's so boring."
In Golden Lion's office, Lida lay sprawled on the sofa, her feet swinging lazily as she stifled a yawn.
Her room and office had been quickly selected, with instructions given to decorate them to her tastes. Naturally, Lida wouldn't handle such menial tasks herself. After stating her basic requirements, she'd come straight to Kuro's office.
After all, with Wilbur keeping the ship running so smoothly, arranging an office and room was effortless.
So she'd spent the morning with Kuro, watching clouds drift across the endless sky.
The Sky was vast - wider than the Grand Line, even.
But also... incredibly boring.
Except for the occasional monstrous bird soaring past, the Sky held nothing.
She was practically falling asleep watching it.
And this had been her routine for quite some time now.
Only Kuro's Acceleration ability had made the journey faster. At normal speeds, crossing would be slower than sailing the seas.
Once confirming they'd cleared the Red Line, Kuro had lowered the ship.
"You thought the Sky had something special? It's just boring", Kuro said, rolling his White Eyes. "Anyway, we've reached the Grand Line. Go get my fishing rod. Since we're on vacation, I might as well fish on the way back."
"Okay."
Lida rose from the sofa, heading out when she suddenly froze, pointing at the floor-to-ceiling window on the left. "Kuro! There's a Pirate Ship! It's moving this way!"
"Pirate Ship?"
Kuro turned his head, startled. "Well I'll be damned. There really is a Pirate Ship."
"Kuro Mr."
Klah pushed open the office door. "We've detected a Pirate Ship in the vicinity."
As he spoke, he also spotted the Pirate Ship entering their left field of view.
Kuro's office, positioned in the highest tower of the fortress complex, offered panoramic views in all directions except directly behind.
Seeing the Pirate Ship, Klah pushed his glasses up with his palm. "That pirate flag... It looks like the Blood Blade Pirates. They broke through into the New World a few years ago and vanished without a trace. What are they doing in the early Grand Line?"
"Hmm? Explain."
Kuro watched the approaching ship calmly.
"Understood, Kuro Mr." Klah continued, "Since you decided to proceed to the New World, I've been gathering intelligence on every pirate crew there. The Blood Blade Pirates are particularly notorious - they're infamous in the Navy for their brutality. Every pirate who joins them must prove their bloodthirst by killing an innocent civilian."
"Their tradition demands new recruits personally execute someone to demonstrate their ruthlessness."
"Their captain 'Blood Blade' Cyril has a bounty of 130,000,000 Beri, with officers carrying bounties as well. Their total bounty reaches 400 million Beri."
"Four hundred million, huh?"
Kuro watched the approaching ship with a smirk. "That's quite impressive."
He turned to Klah. "You wanted to test the ship? Let's use this pirate crew to demonstrate Golden Lion's power."
"Agreed. Kas is already in position."
Klah took out a Transponder Snail, dialing Kas' number.
Kas had previously handled navigation and combat command aboard the ship.
Firing cannons, navigation routes - Kuro actually knew little about these matters. Only those who underwent traditional Navy training understood proper procedures.
Though Wilbur had joined, the ship was enormous. Kas alone couldn't manage everything - his Dougleg Navy division couldn't operate independently without his direct orders.
Back when selecting rooms, they'd already divided responsibilities.
Wilbur, along with Ai En and Binz, all Navy-trained, had been split into four sections with Kas to handle the ship's main cannon fire combat.
As for the others...
Though Kuro had been in the Navy, he'd spent most of his time slacking off. Even during East Blue training, he'd ignored protocols, preferring to sneak away or practice swordsmanship in secluded spots.
Lida? She could eat and knew some Grand Line secrets from her adventures, but that was about it.
Klah, while once a captain, had relied heavily on his first mate. He preferred strategic planning and direct combat.
The rest were all amateurs.
"Hello, this is Kas", the Transponder Snail crackled with his authoritative voice.
"Kas, we've detected a Pirate Ship at ten o'clock direction. Sink it. Kuro Mr. is watching", Klah said.
"Understood!"
The Transponder Snail remained connected as Kas' voice soon rang out.
"Wilbur! Time to show our justice! We've detected a Pirate Ship at ten o'clock direction - it's in your sector! Sink it!"
He seemed to be using another Transponder Snail.
"Roger that!"
Wilbur stood on the deck, facing the approaching Pirate Ship.
Gripping the Transponder Snail's microphone, his brows furrowed. "This is Golden Lion's first battle. I, Wilbur, won't let this ship be disgraced! Listen up!"
Wilbur raised his hand, staring at the Pirate Ship as he took a deep breath. "Nine o'clock! Pirate Ship! Open fire!!"
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The Dougleg Navy crew stationed in the gun compartments fired their cannonballs.
Suddenly, Wilbur slammed his hand against the ship's railing, blue veins bulging on his neck. "Tenfold!!"
The cannonballs exiting the barrels instantly expanded tenfold, transforming into massive iron spheres hurtling toward the Pirate Ship.
Cyril still held hope.
That was the Golden Lion!
The closer they got, the more he realized how enormous the ship truly was. His own Pirate Ship was already massive, yet paled in comparison to the golden behemoth.
From years of looting experience, he recognized the ship's carvings as solid gold!
And that figurehead at the bow? Definitely crafted entirely from gold!
This golden ship suddenly appearing before him must be a divine reward for surviving the New World's hardships.
With this gold, he could upgrade ships and purchase superior weapons to dominate the early Grand Line!
Let those fools fight tooth and nail in the New World - he'd rule this half of the ocean!
"Captain! That ship... it has a Navy flag on it!"
One of his pirates suddenly called out, telescope raised.
"Navy?"
Cyril blinked, reaching for his telescope when the thunderous cannon fire snapped him alert.
In the sky ahead, a dozen massive cannonballs suddenly appeared!
These weren't ordinary cannonballs - they were far larger than standard issue!
Several of them were directly descending toward their ship!
