Chapter 606: Threat
Chapter 606: Threat
Huang Xiaoyu knew that he would not agree, but she didn't expect him to be so blunt in his refusal. "So, you won't do this favor for me?"
Lu Hongjun replied with disdain, "Get out, and don't ever come back."
Huang Xiaoyu dropped the flattering expression on her face and looked at him as she said, "Lu Hongjun, my dream is to go to Hong Kong. If you can send me there, I will treat you like a father and be filial. Otherwise, I won't have any peace, and neither will you and Lu Jiaxin."
Lu Hongjun found this amusing. "I'd like to see what you can do to make life difficult for me and Jiaxin."
"You think no one knows about the antiques you gave to Jiaxin? Each and every one of those antiques is a rare treasure. If it gets out that the two of you smuggled these priceless artifacts to Hong Kong to sell to foreigners, not only will you be disgraced, but Jiaxin will also be shunned and condemned by society." Huang Xiaoyu had no idea what those antiques were, but she was certain they were extremely valuable. After all, someone of Lu Hongjun's stature wouldn't be interested in ordinary things.
Lu Hongjun's face turned ashen. "What nonsense are you spouting?"
Huang Xiaoyu smiled at his reaction. "I know you don't have the ability to get me to Hong Kong. Why don't you contact your precious daughter? I'm sure she'll agree to my request."
She had only been bluffing about Jiaxin before, but now it seemed that her guess was true. This was excellent news; her dream would soon come true.
Lu Hongjun denied it. "Our family doesn't have any antiques. The two valuable items I found were sold by your mother to support your older brother."
Huang Xiaoyu scoffed. "My mother told me that Lu Jia's kin personally said that you gave a large number of priceless antiques to Lu Jiaxin. He even argued with you about it. Lu Hongjun, I'm not asking for much. All I want is to go to Hong Kong, and it shouldn't be difficult for you. If you don't agree, you won't be able to bear the consequences."
Lu Hongjun was so angry he could barely breathe.
Huang Xiaoyu continued regardless. "I'll come back tomorrow at this time. If the outcome isn't what I want, Uncle Lu, don't blame me for not considering our past relationship."
With that, she picked up her bag and left.
It took a long time for Lu Hongjun to calm down. When he entered the house and saw Tang Sufin passed out drunk, he felt like strangling her. However, murder was against the law, so he could only leave in a huff.
Upon arriving at Lu Jiaguang's house, he immediately called Lu Jiaxin, but it was the butler who answered the phone.
"Tell Jiaxin that this matter is urgent," Lu Hongjun said. "If it's not handled properly, not only will I be in trouble, but her reputation will also be affected."
"The young mistress is abroad," replied Butler Meng. "I will inform her as soon as she returns."
Every time Jiaxin went on vacation, she would instruct Susan and Chen Ming to seek out Nie Zhan if there was an emergency at the company. However, she hadn't left any instructions for the household, so Butler Meng didn't dare to overstep his boundaries and involve Nie Zhan. As long as Lu Hongjun didn't say anything and he knew his place, Butler Meng wasn't inclined to get involved. But now that Lu Hongjun had mentioned that his mistress's reputation could be affected, he had to take it seriously.
"Where did she go? I really need to get in touch with her urgently," Lu Hongjun said, his voice filled with anxiety.
The butler politely replied, "I'm sorry, sir, but I don't know which country the young mistress is in, nor do I have the phone number of her accommodations."
Facing the butler's apparent ignorance, Lu Hongjun angrily hung up the phone. But thinking about Huang Xiaoyu's erratic behavior, he feared that she might go to the authorities, so he had no choice but to turn to Lu Jiaguang for help.
Upon hearing Lu Hongjun's words, Lu Jiaguang was stunned. "Why doesn't Huang Xiaoyu know?"
Lu Hongjun sighed. "The other day when I stayed at Jiaxin's place, Tang Sufin had her suspicions, but she didn't have any concrete evidence at the time. It was only because the second child wasn't careful with his words that she found out."
"Huang Xiaoyu has wanted to go to Hong Kong for the past three years. She believes that the streets there are paved with gold and that she'll be able to strike it rich. In order to get to Hong Kong, she even compromised herself with a Hong Kong businessman in his forties. However, that man was only toying with her and had no intention of taking her to Hong Kong."
"Huang Xiaoyu has gone crazy with her desire to go to Hong Kong. If we don't satisfy her, who knows what kind of lies she'll spread. Jiaguang, you must contact Jiaxin and find a way to get this lunatic to Hong Kong."
Lu Jiaguang fell silent for a moment before speaking. "Uncle, Jiaxin won't agree to this."
"How do you know she won't agree when you haven't even called her?"
Lu Jiaguang let out a bitter laugh. It seemed that his uncle was truly getting old if he couldn't understand something so simple. Perhaps it wasn't that he didn't understand, but that he knew Jiaxin was capable and was trying to push the responsibility onto her. However, the problem was that Jiaxin had already drifted apart from the family and was only ensuring his comfortable retirement; she wouldn't get involved in anything else.
"Well?"
Lu Jiaguang sighed and said, "Uncle, I'm not going to make that call. If I do, Jiaxin might cut off contact with me."
"Don't be stubborn, Uncle. If she wants to report us, then let her. The most that will happen is that they'll investigate some of the irregular dealings you had in the past. Even if you go to jail, you'll be out soon enough."
He had guessed where Lu Hongjun had gotten the money for collecting antiques. With his position at the time, he could easily make a large sum of money by secretly selling off certain resources. While this was illegal, with Jiaxin's influence, the authorities would likely go easy on him.
"What do you mean, 'even if I go to jail, I'll be out soon enough'? I'm at an advanced age; I might not make it out alive!" Lu Hongjun said. "Jiaguang, are you going to make that call or not?"
Lu Jiaguang was resolute. "Uncle, I already told you I'm not making that call. Jiaxin is in a different position now. Why would she be afraid of Huang Xiaoyu's threats? Even if she goes to the authorities, it won't harm Jiaxin in the slightest."
After a moment's thought, Lu Jiaguang said, "Uncle, why don't you turn yourself in to the disciplinary inspection commission? I've heard that if you confess, the authorities will show leniency."
Lu Hongjun was so angry he wanted to hang up the phone, but a last shred of rationality held him back. "Jiaguang, I've treated you well over the years. Please, just this once, make the call to Jiaxin for me."
Lu Jiaguang sighed in exasperation. "Uncle, it's not that I won't call Jiaxin, but that it won't do any good. She won't get involved."
"You don't even know if she'll agree or not, and having a father in jail certainly won't reflect well on her. I'm sure she won't just sit idly by."
His secretary knocked on the door and entered, informing him that his superior was looking for him. The call had been made, but it hadn't gone through. Lu Jiaguang said, "Uncle, my boss is looking for me. Let's discuss this again after I get off work."
Lu Hongjun could only hang up helplessly.
When he returned home, Lu Hongjun saw Tang Sufin still lying on the bed, and in a fit of rage, he swung his cane at her. Because he was using all his strength, Tang Sufin woke up in pain.
Seeing his menacing expression, Tang Sufin was terrified to the point of her soul leaving her body. "Old Lu, let's talk calmly, ah..."
He struck her several times, causing Tang Sufin to wail in pain, until the neighbors heard the commotion and came knocking at the door, prompting him to finally stop.
