Chapter 605: Seeking Help
Chapter 605: Seeking Help
Having received Sirius' assurance, Harry and his friends were ecstatic and looked forward to the start of the school year.
Meanwhile, Kyle did not return to St. Kachibor Village. Whether it was homework or other matters, he had kept almost everything in his trunk, carrying it with him at all times.
Even if he had left a few books behind, he could always have them sent back by owl, so there was no need to return home.
The reason he had left Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place early was for a different purpose.
When the Disillusionment Charm wore off, Kyle found himself in a lush forest.
On the left, a brilliantly colored Shrike perching on a pine tree cocked its head, examining him.
"Long time no see, Buddy," Kyle greeted the Shrike familiarly, and the bird responded with a shrill call.
At that moment, a peculiarly dressed house-elf appeared not far in front of him.
He wore something that looked like armor, woven from twigs, with a pair of long rubber boots underneath.
Upon seeing Kyle, the initial wariness on his face transformed into delight.
"Oh, is it really you, Mr. Kyle?"
"It's me, Dobby," Kyle said, "How have you been?"
"Thanks to Mr. Kyle," the house-elf said excitedly. "Dobby loves it here. It's wonderful to be able to work in such a place!"
"That's good," Kyle smiled. "Is Newt home?"
"Yes, he is," Dobby nodded repeatedly. "Mr. Scamander is taking care of a newly born Hidebeast... Oh, Dobby must hurry back to help!"
With that, he turned and scurried into the depths of the forest.
Kyle followed close behind. After turning a corner, a wooden cabin suddenly appeared before them.
The door of the cabin was ajar, and a witch with silver hair stood there.
"I just heard Dobby calling your name," Tina said with a smile. "Come in, I've just baked some cookies."
Dobby couldn't help but pout.
Even now, he still couldn't accept Tina's refusal to let him near the kitchen.
It was too much torture for a house-elf... Thankfully, he had plenty of other tasks to keep him busy.
As soon as he entered the house, Dobby rushed into the furthest room.
Soon after, Newt emerged from the room.
"Tomorrow is the start of term at Hogwarts, isn't it?"
Coincidentally, Tina arrived with a plate of citrus cookies and placed them in front of Kyle. "I thought you wouldn't be coming here this year."
"A lot has happened during the holidays," Kyle said.
He didn't hide anything and recounted his encounter with Voldemort and the sudden interrogation by the Ministry of Magic in detail.
The smile on Tina's face gradually faded, and her expression turned grave.
As a former Auror, she saw nothing wrong with Kyle's actions. When faced with Death Eaters who would stop at nothing, one must do everything in their power to protect themselves.
Not only the Blasting Curse, but even the Killing Curse would be justified.
But the fact that the Death Eaters went to the Ministry of Magic to press charges was something Tina hadn't anticipated. In her entire career, she had never come across such a situation.
"Fortunately, there's Diana," she said with a sense of relief.
"Yes," Kyle nodded. If the Backstep Spell hadn't failed, he wouldn't have gotten through that ordeal so easily.
Newt, standing beside them, heaved a sigh of relief as well. He knew about Kyle's encounter with Voldemort, but he had been unaware of the subsequent interrogation.
"You don't have to hold back," Tina said, glancing at Kyle. "If you encounter Death Eaters again, you can still do the same. Whether it's the Blasting Curse or anything else, use whatever means necessary to protect yourself. Your life is what matters most.
"As for the possibility of the Ministry of Magic pressing charges afterward, don't worry about it. If they try to pursue the matter, I can send you to Uagadou, beyond the reach of the British Ministry of Magic."
"Hey, you should trust Dumbledore," Newt muttered. "He wouldn't let Kyle be convicted."
"Let's hope so," Tina said irritably.
She knew that Newt trusted Dumbledore unconditionally, but that didn't mean Dumbledore could accomplish anything.
Sometimes, it was prudent to make alternative plans.
Newt understood Tina's thoughts, so he didn't argue.
After finishing the cookies, Newt prepared to return to his case, as the baby Hidebeast still needed time to adjust to its new environment, and despite Dobby's help, he felt uneasy about leaving it unattended.
Kyle accompanied him.
"I heard Dumbledore mention that he has returned," Newt said as he took a blanket from the shelf inside the case. "I offered to help, but Dumbledore turned me down. He only asked me to write letters to a few friends, inviting them to come to Britain."
"Ah, it's fine. We can handle it," Kyle said.
He agreed with Dumbledore's decision. While Newt was indeed a powerful ally, he was also nearing a hundred years old, and there was no need to involve him in this matter.
Moreover, there was another crucial point—Newt was too much of a wildcard... It wouldn't matter in Paris, but this was Britain, his home turf, and unless absolutely necessary, it was better to keep Newt from running amok here.
The cub's fur was a brownish-gray, and its invisibility was not very effective, flickering like a young wizard who had just learned the Disillusionment Charm and had not yet mastered its use.
Only when they grew older and their fur turned silver-white could they better hide themselves, so this was the most vulnerable time for Nundus.
Hearing their footsteps, Dobby immediately turned and greeted them.
"Mr. Scamander, I think its invisibility is much better than before."
"That's right." Newt replied with a smile, "Nundu cubs are quick learners. Two days after birth, they can barely be spotted by predators, but it will take a full month for their fur to turn completely silver-white."
"Mr. Scamander, Dobby will take good care of it." Dobby assured, patting his chest.
"I have no doubt about that." Newt smiled, "But it's best not to stay here all the time, as it will make them lose their natural wariness and also disturb the adult Nundus.
"It's better to hide in a more secluded spot, like... over there." Newt pointed to an area with lush bushes.
Although he didn't quite understand, Dobby nodded and quickly ran over, hiding himself in the bushes, leaving only a large ear sticking out.
Then the two continued on their way to other places.
Since Kyle had come to visit, Newt wasn't going to let the opportunity pass by, and he took him to see quite a few magical beasts that were acting unusually or throwing tantrums.
Kyle once again played the role of a magical beast psychologist, helping to uncover the reasons behind their behaviors.
It wasn't until evening that they emerged from the Mooncalves' cave.
One of the Mooncalves had been ostracized by its herd for not dancing well enough.
Newt's case was truly extraordinary; here, one could even find a Mooncalf that couldn't dance—a real eye-opener.
Newt had spent the entire afternoon teaching it how to dance, and they had just finished.
"Are you going back for dinner?" Newt asked, glancing at the time, "Or do you want to go somewhere else?"
"I'm not hungry yet." Kyle replied with a smile.
Newt nodded as if he understood something, "Go on, tell me where you want to go.
"But I must remind you that Dumbledore won't allow certain magical beasts into the castle, like the Nundu."
Kyle, who had just opened his mouth to speak, closed it again.
He had indeed come to seek Newt's help, and Diana was right—sometimes, dealing with Death Eaters didn't mean relying solely on the Blasting Curse.
So he had thought of another approach... finding helpers.
The Nundu was one of his original intentions, but before he could even make his request, Newt had already refused.
"It's a special situation now." Kyle said softly, "And I'm confident that I can control it."
"Well..." Newt hesitated.
As Kyle had said, the Death Eaters had already made a move against him, and no one could guarantee that it wouldn't happen again.
Moreover, this time, the Death Eaters had used a different tactic... going to the Ministry of Magic to press charges. Their plot had failed this time, but what if they tried again? It wouldn't do to have Kyle running off to Uagadou to hide.
"The Nundu doesn't discriminate between friend or foe." Newt said quietly, "Once it launches an attack, everyone around will be affected, and it's very likely that it will harm our own people."
"I'll be careful." Kyle said.
Newt fell silent, and after a long while, he said, "Just the Nundu?"
"Oh, there's one more." Kyle leaned in and whispered something.
After hearing what Kyle had to say, Newt immediately widened his eyes and shook his head repeatedly, "No, absolutely not. The Nundu I can lend to you, but this one is too dangerous. Dumbledore will definitely not allow you to bring it into the castle..."
"That was before, the situation is different now."
Kyle said, "The castle itself is no longer safe and could even be said to be facing an unprecedented crisis.
"Moreover, it is a part of Hogwarts and has a responsibility to help protect the school."
"Even if you say so." Newt still shook his head, "How about this, I'll write a letter to Dumbledore, and if he agrees, then there's no problem."
"That's not necessary." Kyle said softly, "And besides, it's originally mine."
He didn't want Dumbledore to know about this, as he was sure he wouldn't agree.
"It's necessary." Newt said, "And there's one thing you're wrong about. Only after you graduate will it be handed over to you."
"Alright." Kyle looked around and changed the subject, "How about we go see the Nundu first? The little cub from before should have grown up by now."
"It hasn't reached adulthood yet, but it has indeed grown a lot."
