Chapter 605: Intense Battle
Chapter 605: Intense Battle
When Liam noticed Voldemort was about to use the Killing Curse to finish off Mad-Eye Moody, he lunged towards Mad-Eye Moody. A green glow grazed them both and flew off into the distance.
"Voldemort!" Mad-Eye Moody reacted immediately, and Liam realized from the name he called that he, like himself, referred to Voldemort as the Dark Lord to avoid the spell on Voldemort's name, not out of fear.
"Down!" Mad-Eye Moody shouted, firing a red flare before sharply tilting his broom handle downward. He knew he couldn't match Voldemort, who could fly in the sky without a broom, so he hoped to gain an advantage by landing and using obstacles. Voldemort, however, understood this as well, and under his command, the surrounding Death Eaters gathered to attack Liam.
Even as Mad-Eye Moody roared and charged forward, he couldn't possibly block all the magic alone. Fortunately, the Death Eaters were reserving the chance to kill Harry for Voldemort, so their spells mainly targeted Liam's Firebolt. Within seconds, the spells broke through Liam's not-so-sturdy Armor Charm and struck the Firebolt, instantly setting the broomstick ablaze and sending it into an uncontrollable descent.
Liam wasn't Harry, and he couldn't dodge the concentrated attack. Mad-Eye Moody, meanwhile, was being attacked from all sides by three Death Eaters and was flying further away. He watched as Liam plummeted in a ball of fire and desperately tried to fly back, but the Death Eaters' interference only made him fly further away.
"Looks like I can't pretend to be Harry anymore", Liam thought as he saw the Death Eaters diving down, with Voldemort leading the charge. Even if he Apparated away now, it would be justified, as he had seen Bill and Fleur, riding Thestrals, being pursued by only two Death Eaters after the others had come after him. They should easily escape.
However, Liam didn't retreat. He used his magic power to activate the Rose Madonna within him and released the Alchemy he had prepared.
After the Alchemy was completed, a pink light orb quickly expanded around Liam, enveloping over a dozen Death Eaters. These Death Eaters hadn't even had time to cast protective spells when the light orb engulfed them.
But after holding their breath for a couple of seconds, the Death Eaters realized nothing had happened. Just as they were about to celebrate, their brooms exploded simultaneously.
In an instant, the Death Eaters' smiles turned into screams of terror. They had been diving after Liam, and losing their brooms at a height of over a hundred meters left them only a few seconds to react.
Not every wizard could afford to be fully equipped with magical defense items, especially for these poor Eastern European Dark Wizards. The only magical item they might have was their wands. Nor could every Dark Wizard be as powerful as Voldemort or Bellatrix, capable of precisely selecting spells at any time.
As Liam extended a pair of transparent, crystal-like pink wings from his back, halting his descent and soaring upwards to face Voldemort, a series of thuds like sacks of flour hitting concrete came from the ground. From the sounds, Liam guessed that at least half of the Death Eaters who had pursued him had met their end.
"Who are you?" Before Liam could celebrate his at least ten consecutive kills, a Killing Curse forced him to dodge sharply to the left. Voldemort's raspy voice followed, along with another green glow heading towards Liam.
"Guess", Liam said, flapping his wings and dodging the green glow like a nimble bird, gliding to Voldemort's left. Unlike a broom, the wings formed by the Rose Madonna seemed like a natural extension of his body, giving Liam excellent maneuverability in the air.
With his new position, Liam brought his wand down with force, sending a burning, dark blue crescent blade of flame towards Voldemort. This spell, which Liam had invented after thoroughly studying the Black Book of the Dead and the Sunlit Codex, combining death and frost, put considerable pressure on Voldemort. He had to abandon his next Killing Curse and summon a silver shield from the air to block it.
The crescent blade exploded upon impact with the silver shield, sending swirls of dark blue sparks flying past the shield toward Voldemort. The figure was engulfed in an icy blue flame, turning him into a blazing torch.
"Fake", Liam thought, quickly folding his wings and diving. A green Killing Curse whizzed over his head. Watching the green glow vanish into the distance, Liam began to maneuver in a serpentine pattern, flying forward. Voldemort released several more Killing Curses from behind and above him, but Liam managed to evade them all.
After a few seconds of flying, Liam gave a powerful flap of his wings and executed an Immelmann Turn. He then fired a series of blue-white Plasma Orbs, each crackling with lightning, directly at Voldemort. Voldemort summoned another silver shield to block the Plasma Orbs.
Under the cover of the plasma splattering from the impact, Liam sidestepped another Killing Curse. As he passed Voldemort, he drew the Blade of the Enemy and, with a forceful thrust, stabbed Voldemort in the side, catching him off guard.
Voldemort had indeed been caught off guard. He had never encountered a wizard in aerial combat who was as agile, or even more agile, than himself. Nor had he ever seen a wizard use Muggle weapons in a formal wizard duel. Consequently, he was unprepared for Liam's attack.
However, Voldemort, being the most powerful Dark Wizard in Europe, quickly bolstered his magical defenses. The snake scales hidden beneath his skin, which provided both physical and magical protection, further reduced the effectiveness of Liam's attack.
The Blade of the Enemy, an artifact in its own right, shattered Voldemort's magical defenses upon contact. However, the force of the strike, combined with Voldemort's scales, caused the blade to slip, slicing down Voldemort's waist. Liam adjusted his grip in time, and the blade pierced Voldemort's thigh at an angle, then was pulled out, leaving a trail of black blood in its wake.
"You're dead", Voldemort hissed, his eyes burning with rage. The wound in his leg was not severe; it had already begun to heal as soon as Liam pulled out the sword. His anger stemmed from the fact that even in his battles with Dumbledore, he had never been injured in such a manner. The humiliation of being wounded by a Muggle-style attack was particularly galling.
"Seems like I overplayed my hand", Liam muttered, dodging a series of rapid Killing Curses and successfully landing on the ground. As he landed, several sharp branches shot up like arrows, targeting the descending Voldemort.
Voldemort merely waved his hand, turning the branches to ash that floated in the air. He continued to fire Killing Curses while shouting, "Little Mouse, don't try to avoid your death. You're finished today."
"Maybe not", Liam said, dodging another Killing Curse and stepping out from behind a hedge. A pink light shot toward Voldemort. Now that he had landed and retracted his wings, Liam, who was not yet fully proficient with Rose Madonna, could finally channel its power for an attack.
Voldemort, as usual, summoned a silver shield to block the spell, but his expression quickly turned grim. This spell was different from the ones Liam had used before, which had been unable to shake his shield. The silver shield hummed when struck by the pink light, and Voldemort felt a pressure pushing against it.
"Who are you?" Voldemort asked, using his left hand to steady the shield while firing another green glow from behind it. However, a two-story-tall Clay Golem suddenly emerged from the ground, blocking the attack.
"Guess", Liam replied. A red alchemical array had already formed beneath his feet. With the power of the earth amplifying his magic, the clay giant charged toward Voldemort, its body hardening from the feet up. By the time it reached Voldemort, it had transformed into a Stone Golem. Its massive fists, as thick as tree trunks, swung down toward Voldemort's head.
