Chapter 605: Ascending the Palace of the Soul King!
Chapter 605: Ascending the Palace of the Soul King!
In the courtyard, Feng Ye sat in the center, gazing up at the sky. His eyes shone with a faint golden hue, resembling the golden Rinnegan, seeing through the Soul Society and Hueco Mundo, observing the tripartite realm and the movement of every spirit.
Millions of years ago, he and the Soul King had created the Soul Society and Hueco Mundo, but the current Soul Society was not what it used to be. It had since expanded to include regions like Hell and the Precipice World.
These were all places created by the Soul King later on.
The world they had crafted initially was extremely stable and balanced. Haphazardly filling other spaces would naturally disrupt this balance, and so the creation of places like Hell and the Precipice World had cost the Soul King a great deal of effort, with intricate constructions.
After observing for a moment, Feng Ye retracted his gaze, and the golden hue in his eyes faded, returning to their usual black. He looked towards the entrance of the small courtyard.
"You didn't come find me when you got back?"
Yoruichi appeared at the entrance, with Soifon following closely behind.
Soifon had changed into a new outfit, a tight-fitting garment that perfectly accentuated her petite figure. A subtle aura and spiritual pressure emanated from her body, different from before.
"I just took a small detour to clean up Hueco Mundo," Feng Ye said with a casual smile. "Little Soifon has finally mastered her Bankai."
Soifon glared at Feng Ye and said, "Please don't call me that... Also, thank you for your guidance. I have indeed mastered Bankai."
She had originally wanted to say that she was probably older than Feng Ye, but it felt strange to say that out loud, so she changed her words at the last moment.
However, Feng Ye probably wouldn't have minded. His age could be considered on par with the Soul King, and there was no older existence in the entire Soul Society. Moreover, even disregarding age, calling her 'Little Soifon' was not inappropriate in any way.
"You're welcome," Feng Ye said with a smile.
Yoruichi walked closer and sat on the armrest of Feng Ye's chair, her elbow resting on his shoulder as she looked down at him. "I heard you brought a woman back with you. Aren't the girls from the Second Division enough for you?"
"Should I have brought a man back instead?" Feng Ye glanced at Yoruichi. "Lilith and Rukia are both living with me. How would it be convenient to bring a man back? Seems like Captain Yoruichi isn't too happy about it."
Yoruichi tilted her head. "Let me take a look at her at least."
Feng Ye smiled and called out towards the back courtyard, "Nel!"
"Yes, Lord Feng Ye," came Nel's reply as she stepped out from the corridor and bowed to him.
Yoruichi noticed Nel and furrowed her brows slightly, her eyes assessing Nel and lingering on her chest for a moment before jumping down from the chair. With her arms folded across her chest, she said, "Why didn't you bring back a loli this time?"
"..." Feng Ye glanced at her. What did she mean by 'this time'?
Yoruichi shrugged nonchalantly. "You're a known loli and little girl lover. I've never seen you show interest in more mature women."
Feng Ye huffed, "Don't view my preferences with your corrupted gaze."
As Feng Ye and Yoruichi conversed, Soifon was also quietly observing Nel. She narrowed her eyes, sensing an intangible threat from Nel.
And just as she subtly displayed a hint of hostile intent towards Nel, Nel turned and looked at her, their gazes meeting.
"!!"
Just one glance was enough to send a chill down Soifon's spine.
This woman is not simple! She's definitely not an ordinary soul from the Rukongai. Nel gave off an aura that was difficult to discern, even with Soifon's newly attained Bankai!
Yoruichi noticed the exchange between Nel and Soifon, a faint glimmer flashing in her eyes. She smiled at Feng Ye and said, "I have something to discuss with you. Could you ask your attendant to leave us for a moment?"
Feng Ye gave a slight nod to Nel.
Nel bowed slightly to Feng Ye and then retreated to the back.
As Yoruichi watched Nel disappear from view, the smile on her face gradually faded. Turning to Feng Ye, she said in a low voice, "Your attendant... she's not an ordinary soul, is she? Is she a Hollow or an Arrancar?"
"She used to be a Hollow, but now she's neither," Feng Ye replied, his expression unchanged.
Yoruichi frowned. "No wonder she feels so strange. She has the spiritual pressure of a Hollow mixed with that of a Shinigami, and there's a hint of an Arrancar as well... Bringing such an existence here without reporting to the First Division could cause trouble."
Any unusual souls, like Arrancars or the Quincy, had to be reported to the First Division before being allowed into the Seireitei.
In more serious cases, it would also need to be reported to the Central 46 for judgment.
Feng Ye had brought Nel, a special existence, into the Seireitei and even into the Second Division's barracks without permission. Although Yoruichi knew that Feng Ye wasn't acting recklessly and probably had his reasons, it still went against the regulations of the Gotei 13.
"As long as you have a plan, that's fine." Yoruichi's demeanor softened as she took the offered cup and took a sip. She had been concerned that Feng Ye might be unaware of the rules of the Gotei 13 or would choose to ignore them, which could have led to trouble. But from his words, she could tell that he was aware of the potential consequences and seemed confident about gaining Head Captain Yamamoto's approval. With that assurance, she had no further worries, as she trusted Feng Ye implicitly.
"By the way," Feng Ye said as he took the cup back from Yoruichi, "I'll be going into seclusion for a period of time to cultivate. In the meantime, Soifon, you'll be in charge of the squad's tasks and duties."
Soifon was slightly taken aback but nodded in agreement. "Of course." She felt a sense of satisfaction at receiving Feng Ye's acknowledgment.
Yoruichi narrowed her eyes and shot Feng Ye a mock-annoyed glance. "If you want to slack off, just say so. No need to make it sound so noble, trying to dump all the work on Soifon."
Feng Ye smiled back at her without saying a word.
"Let's go, Soifon!" Yoruichi turned and began walking out of the courtyard, motioning for Soifon to follow.
Soifon and Feng Ye shared a brief moment of eye contact, their gazes locking for a second before Soifon nodded and turned to follow Yoruichi out of Feng Ye's courtyard.
As he watched them leave, Feng Ye stretched his body and sat up from the recliner. He tilted his head back, gazing up at the sky directly above the Seireitei, his eyes reflecting a profound depth.
"It's time," he murmured.
With that, his figure flickered, transforming into a faint glow that shot upward like a bolt of lightning. He effortlessly sliced through the layers of space above the Seireitei, vanishing into the deep blue horizon.
The myriad layers of space above the Seireitei posed no hindrance to his progress; he pierced through them like a swimmer effortlessly breaching the surface of a lake, heading straight for its deepest depths.
...
Soul King Palace.
Beneath the Soul King's main palace lay the Soul King Palace's Omnific Road, a fan-shaped region floating in the sky. At the end of this area was a long corridor leading to various sections of the Soul King Palace, including the main palace and numerous Zero Squad Outposts.
On the corridor of the Soul King Palace's Omnific Road, five figures sat cross-legged in a horizontal row, their eyes closed. They were the Zero Squad, the guardians of the Soul King Palace!
Zero Squad! A force that stood above the Gotei 13, ungoverned by the Central 46 Chambers and answering only to the Soul King himself. They were the highest authority in the Soul Society, second only to the two kings.
Although the oldest member, Ichibei Hyosube, was implicitly considered the leader of the Zero Squad, the squad had no official captain. Each member was a leader in their own right, and their combined strength surpassed that of the entire Gotei 13!
It was at this moment, as Feng Ye tore through the sky, effortlessly navigating the convoluted layers of space like a fish swimming upstream, that the Zero Squad members opened their eyes.
"He's here," said Ichibei, the first to stand up.
Following his lead, Nimaiya Oetsu, Kirinji Tenjiro, Senjumaru Shutara, and Kisuke Urahara also opened their eyes and rose to their feet. The five of them stood side by side, gazing into the distance.
"Get ready, everyone," Ichibei said, his eyes fixed on the horizon.
The others remained silent, their expressions solemn as they focused their attention forward. In the distance, at the end of the fan-shaped zone of the Soul King Palace's Omnific Road, the space began to distort, forming wave-like ripples.
There were 72 barriers between the Soul King Palace and the Seireitei, and without a Royal Key, entry into the Soul King Palace was exceedingly difficult. However, there were rare exceptions—beings capable of forcibly breaching these barriers and making their way to the Soul King Palace.
Finally, a figure emerged from the rippling distortions of space, gradually coming into focus until, with a soft 'pop,' he stepped out of the wrinkled void and onto the fan-shaped platform at the forefront of the Soul King Palace's Omnific Road.
