Chapter 604: Position
Chapter 604: Position
After exiting the underground area of the Handling Bureau, Chen Chuan thanked Deputy Director Guo and headed to his own office alone.
His office was located on the thirtieth floor of the Handling Bureau's office building, in the south corner, offering a direct view of the parking lot and the surrounding streets and buildings.
The office was standard for his rank, equipped with an independent information domain creature, a personal storage room, a confidential room, a large conference hall, and a resting room with a shower.
He had no plans to renovate the office, as an action-oriented Investigation Supervisor, his responsibilities primarily required him to handle matters outside the bureau, making it unlikely for him to spend much time stationed within the bureau.
Approaching his desk, he picked up a document from the table and glanced at it. It was a commendation letter from the Defense Department addressed to him and his squad members.
As for material rewards, they would be distributed subsequently.
He tapped on the Intercom, which was now linked to An-Shield, allowing him to directly access specific information about various internal members of the Handling Bureau and review past and ongoing cases.
There was an ongoing operation that was undoubtedly related to him, and it fell under his purview in terms of authority.
As this was a long-term task, it might have to wait until his return to continue handling it.
He took a look, and it primarily targeted the Lianwei Zhongyu Corporation.
During the silkworm mother's breeding and splitting period, this company repeatedly provided escort and mercenary services to other companies, even transporting the split bodies of the silkworm mother. Such companies must be dealt with severely or have their operations removed from the city.
However, this was a long-term process, as the company was not like the Skywheel Company, which had its headquarters here and operated in various cities. Therefore, it would be challenging to suppress its roots.
The Government Hall was also highly dissatisfied with this company, so they planned to take advantage of this opportunity to establish an air transport company with Sky Shark Corporation as the main body, dividing its business.
Moving forward, the Handling Bureau would increase supervision and punishment of its mercenary services, but due to Jinbei Province's unique geographical location, it would significantly impact the Outer Ocean Island Nations. Now that the Skywheel Company has been overthrown, leaving a large piece of the pie, this company would likely not give up its business here, leading to a possible confrontation and game of strategy.
After scrolling down, he noticed a notification sound from below, indicating that several Handling Bureau personnel were applying to join his investigation team.
He reviewed their qualifications and past experiences, finding that they were not particularly outstanding individuals. It was possible that they wanted to associate themselves with him early on, seeing his rise within the Handling Bureau.
After all, he was still young, not even twenty years old, and even if he stood still, he could outlast those above him.
He thought for a moment, realizing that during the mission, many investigations, logistics, and technical matters would indeed be impossible for him to handle alone, and he would need a lot of manpower.
But there was no need to rush, and he didn't trust some people in the bureau, unsure if they were intentionally planted by others.
He felt he could make good use of the recruitment quota; he already had some ideas in mind, but there was no hurry. He could wait until his vacation and return to discuss it.
He was well aware that improving himself was the top priority, and with strength came influence.
After ignoring these applications, he noticed a list of weapons, equipment, and even Resonance Nests available for purchase within the bureau at relatively low prices.
He contemplated, considering the possibility of purchasing some necessary items to arm his residence, as confrontations with companies in the future would inevitably require such equipment.
Additionally, some high-tech implants developed by the state were also available to him, even though he didn't need them. These implants could be useful for arming non-combatants and administrative staff or fighters who had been injured and couldn't recover.
For example, Deputy Director Luo Xiucheng, who was in charge of internal affairs, was clearly equipped with high-level implants.
He didn't underestimate the value of such implants, as with technological advancements, their significance would become more apparent. Especially in empowering ordinary people with some combat capabilities, they might play a role in the future when the two worlds merge and confront foreign organisms. This was indeed a significant trend.
After spending more than half an hour here, he took care of some trivial matters, picked up the box containing his uniform from the side, and walked out. The on-duty personnel at the entrance saluted him and extended their hand, saying, "Supervisor," with utmost politeness.
Chen Chuan didn't refuse, handing the box to him, and the two took the elevator downstairs. As they passed by, Handling Bureau staff members stood still and greeted him with a "Supervisor," waiting for him to leave before resuming their activities.
Along the way, people he knew and didn't know greeted him, and he responded with nods. The accompanying duty personnel felt a sense of pride in their chests.
When they reached the entrance hall, they saw that it was raining outside. The light gray sky was slightly gloomy, and the raindrops carried a crisp breeze, but it felt exceptionally refreshing.
The duty personnel ran to the side and fetched an umbrella, holding it open for him, extending their arm as far as possible towards him, disregarding their own bodies outside the umbrella.
He descended the elongated staircase and, upon reaching the parking lot, was promptly approached by a team of individuals who saluted and introduced themselves. "Supervisor Chen, I'm Yu Xiao. My squad and I are responsible for your safety during this trip. Where are you headed?"
Chen Chuan glanced around and noticed four armored vehicles, three of which were purely for combat, each equipped with mounted machine guns.
Despite his formidable abilities, this was the standard treatment for an Investigation Supervisor from the Handling Bureau. As it was their first meeting, he saw no reason to decline their services, especially since it would be a good opportunity to familiarize himself with the team.
After a moment's thought, he raised his head and replied, "Dewy District, to the former site of the Skywheel Company."
The captain's expression turned solemn, and he responded with a firm, "Yes, sir!"
One of the team members promptly opened the door of the specialized vehicle for him. As he boarded the extended armored car, the other armed personnel followed suit. The convoy then proceeded out of the plaza, where the on-duty personnel saluted as they passed by.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Sun Rao was returning to the bureau in a patrol car after a night shift with Wei Yuji. As they approached the bureau, they encountered the four armored vehicles driving out. Their car naturally halted to let the convoy pass.
Sun Rao had been with the Handling Bureau for a long time, and the convoy's configuration immediately caught his attention. He surmised that a supervisor or deputy secretary was on the move and wondered if something significant was afoot.
Wei Yuji sat in the back seat, his elbow resting on the car window, gazing rather listlessly out the window.
However, being naturally perceptive, he immediately checked the internal news channel of the bureau after spotting the convoy. He wanted to see if there was any unusual activity.
After checking, he raised an eyebrow and glanced at Sun Rao. "Senior, check today's internal news. See if this newly promoted Investigation Supervisor is the person you know."
"Investigation Supervisor?" Sun Rao asked, looking at the departing convoy.
He seemed to recall something and, without realizing it, straightened up slightly from his previously relaxed position. Then he accessed the internal news channel.
Soon, his face registered surprise and shock. After reading the news, he reread it twice more, finally murmuring, "I never expected this. He joined the Handling Bureau much later than I did."
Wei Yuji smiled and said, "Senior Sun, this is normal. People have their differences. It's not shameful to admit that someone is better than you. I've seen how hard you've worked, but talent isn't something that can be earned through effort alone. It's not a bad thing to recognize your limitations early on."
Sun Rao remained silent as the patrol car restarted and drove into the plaza, parking there. "You go ahead. I need to use the restroom."
In the 16th, 19th, and 1st districts, a 1-bar-9-book-1-look-no-mistake version!
After Wei Yuji left, Sun Rao contacted another sponsored student, An Cheng, through the internal news channel.
The channel connected shortly.
An Cheng's voice sounded, "Sun Rao? What's the matter? Speak quickly. I still need to train after my shift."
"Don't push yourself too hard," Sun Rao said.
An Cheng's voice immediately grew louder, with a hint of impatience, "How can I not push myself? If I don't, I'll only be doing patrol duties. I'm not content with that. Are you? Come on, what's the matter? Speak quickly."
"A new Investigation Supervisor has been promoted in the bureau," Sun Rao said.
An Cheng found this strange. "Why mention this? What does it have to do with us?"
Sun Rao remained silent.
An Cheng soon realized what he was implying. His voice changed slightly, "Is it him?"
Sun Rao nodded. "Yes. Check the bureau's news. You should know about this morning's events."
The other end fell silent for a moment, presumably searching for information. After a while, An Cheng's voice rose again, disbelief evident, "What? How is this possible? Isn't this too soon?"
Sun Rao replied, "If the internal report is accurate, it's not that fast. He's a Third-Tier Fighter. With his accomplishments, how could he not be promoted?"
An Cheng seemed deeply affected, momentarily speechless.
Sun Rao spoke seriously, "An Cheng, people have their differences. It's not shameful to admit that someone is better. You've always been diligent, and I've seen your efforts. But talent isn't something earned through hard work alone. It's best to let go and recognize your limitations early."
At that very moment, on a street outside the Handling Bureau, as Chen Chuan's vehicle departed, two individuals were discussing him in a nearby street-facing bar.
A man wearing sunglasses asked, "Was that the one who sliced through the Skywheel?"
"Yes, it's him. But slicing through the Skywheel was probably not his own power. According to later intelligence, he likely received assistance from an Active Sentient of the Wu Yi Academy."
The man with sunglasses said, "That makes more sense. Even so, his own strength must be considerable to harness the power of an Active Sentient. Such a person is qualified to join us."
"Should we recruit him, then?"
"No rush. Let's observe him further. Our Refinement Sect doesn't accept just anyone."
